If you like reading epics that are slow and dragging at times, nothing much happens but they kinda seem to fill your appetite (for reading), go for it! Worth a read it is.
As with many novels of the British Victorian period, the focus is on the characters and their interactions. I would never recommend this for school-age student; I think it was meaningful for me because in my 40s, I could very much relate to some of the character types.
I do agree that making young students read it would be dull. I too, read the book in my 40s (a gift from my husband) and I enjoyed it. I don’t believe I’d have had the appreciation for it as a teen, early 20s.
I liked it.
Yes. It’s a masterpiece. And I’ve also watched the BBC mini-series — beautifully cast and true to the storyline.
One of the finest pieces of English literature. ?
Forced to read it at school. Dull, dull, dull!
My favorite book of all time! A true masterpiece!

I became totally engrossed in it, but I would not consider it a favorite.
Required reading at college, it was okey I guess, I still wish we had harry potter in the curriculum instead. Am 23.
