Go for it
I’ve never read it either. I’ve tried like three times and can never read more than the first chapter. ??♀️
One of the top five classic American novels, IMO. And an enjoyable read, but some people find it a bit of a slow start. Give it at least 50 pages.
Was a requirement when I was in high school to read that book. It was a good read.
I never read it because I thought it was literally about hunting birds.
I had to read it in high school and ended up loving it. I also liked the second book, Go Set a Watchman
I had to read it in High School and ended up loving it as well!
My favorite classic. I wish Atticus was my friend.
Just did, it’s super worth it and very readable.
Among the ten best examples of American fiction. You must read it :):):)
A classic that is worthy of the designation
I was forced to read it in school, didn’t like it. Might try again and read it by choice.
It happened with me also. It was Oliver Twist.
I reread it a year ago, it was a wonderful experience.
As if I was living my school life again.
?? I am missing my school sobsob..
? It’s a slow start, but press through because it’s really worth it. It made such an impact on my life that it was the inspiration for many of my most important life choices and I named one of my children Atticus.
Lol
Hello Atticus
It’s top 3 for me. Reading it as an adult and a parent was a lot different from when I read it at 14-I discovered so many themes that are still relevant.
I loved it.
Total crap fest..hated it.
Yes! Absolutely.
A favorite
I might have liked it better had my hi school class not listened to it on tape for 3 months. while I had read it in a few short hours. But it’s been forever ruined.
? that’s a long time to spend on a book!
Yeah it was a solid 2-3 months. and it got even longer because we kept having substitutes teachers come in not knowing where we were at. And they’d want to add to the experience.
I’m a teacher and am hoping that I get to teach this book. I won’t ruin it for them (hopefully).
Meh. I’d wait for the graphic novel to come out and it might be better.
It’s an important book to read.
Loved it.
My favorite book.
A wonderful book on many levels.
One of my favorites! ❤
I loved it!
My favorite.
My favorite!!!
It’s one of my all-time favorites. I’ve read and reread a copy to pieces.
Just recently finished the book and yes. You need to read it! Everyone needs to read it!
It’s a really excellent book. I highly recommend it.
I love it. Just read it for the second time this year (after reading it many years ago for high school) and it just got so much better!
YES! It is such a rich story ~
It’s worth reading
Multiple levels of story within this story.
As a Southerner, I felt and understood the atmosphere of the storyline, the characters, and the subtle between the lines conversations. I’ve lived it. A lot of what was discussed and experienced, as a Southerner, you would know exactly what was going on, without having to explain.
The segregation, racial and social, was real but has improved greatly.
A classic to read-slowly and ponder about where we were and where we are now.
As so much has changed, much has remained the same.
And everyone knows that it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird, because all it does is sing a pretty song.
I was raised thirty years later and 500 miles away from the setting of that book, but even as a child living in the south during the sixties the situation was the same in many ways. Nothing much changed after the Civil War for 100 years. Then in the sixties, it suddenly started happening.
Yes!
A thousand times YES! Also, it’s a fast read so it wouldn’t take long to read!
Yes!
Yes
It was my favorite book I had to read for a school requirement. And I still really love it.
If you love reading this book is the pinnacle of books.
Loved it
One of my all time favorite books
“To kill a mockingbird” is an absolute yes!
“Comes a watchman” is an absolute no!
While taking a class on “Southern Gothic Fiction” we read “Other Voices,Other Rooms” which is by Truman Capote!
i loved To Kill a Mockingbird, and i really liked Go Set a Watchman. you have to go into GSAW knowing what it is, though- it’s the first draft of TKAM that she turned into the publisher. they liked it enough to spend the next 2 years working with her on the story, which was released as TKAM. a few years ago, she decided or was convinced to release the first draft as is, no editing, so it’s not as polished & has differences from TKAM, and it revealed things about a main character that were unpopular (but made sense to me, given the time period it takes place in). if you read both, read TKAM first, as GSAW reads like a sequel, taking place 20 years after TKAM.
And that she specifically never wanted it released. The estate used her dementia to get it released and make money off her.
that is quite possible, unfortunately, but not necessarily correct.
There were at least three articles written about that when the book was released, including an op ed piece by Stephen King. I’ll link just one here.
https://www.vox.com/2015/7/16/8974447/harper-lee-go-set-a-watchman-racism-controversy
i’m well aware of the controversy around the release of the book. the article you link here does indeed talk about the possibility she was coerced into releasing it. it says also “The state of Alabama actually launched an elder-abuse investigation into Lee’s situation earlier this year. It didn’t find evidence of coercion or abuse, but it’s impossible to rule them out with absolute certainty,” meaning doubt is there, but nothing was found and legally the book is in the clear. i couldn’t find anything written by Stephen King other than a tweet that said “Watch the critics clobber GO SET A WATCHMAN. “Thou shalt not monkey with our scared literary cows.” For the rest of us: you go, girl!” referring to the controversy over Atticus Finch’s character, which is the main body of the article linked above, & his support of the book. her longtime friend (who delivered the eulogy at her funeral), historian Wayne Flynt, said the “narrative of senility, exploitation of this helpless little old lady is just hogwash. It’s just complete bunk.” personally, i don’t know how to figure out what the complete truth of the matter is with so much doubt on both sides.
@April I’m aware it says that. I’m also aware of just how difficult elder abuse is to prove when it’s mental. I also wasn’t attempting to start a disagreement. I just believe everyone should be informed enough to make a decision they believe in.
Definitely
I loved it
Yes!
Totally.
I loved it. It is in my top 5 most loved books.
Good book. Worth the read ?
Awesome book 🙂
One of the all-time best books that you can read.

my absolute favorite book….. a must read!
Please, do yourself a favor and read it!! It is sooo good ??
It is an absolute must read!
One of the classics that deserves the title. 🙂
It’s probably my all-time favorite book. Definitely read it!
I read it back in highschool. It’s good but to me it was just to slow , also 9 years ago I got confused and couldn’t comprehend it as well. If I read it again I’d probably understand it better. It was slow but to each their own
Yes
Definite read!
Absolutely
One of my favorite books
That breaks my heart!!!! Read it now!
Yes – go right now and read it immediately!
Great Book
I understand why it’s an influential and important piece of literature, but I’ve never been able to enjoy it– although it looks like I’m wildly outvoted on this one ?
OMG ! Yes it’s worth reading 🙂
Yes.
LOVED it!
without a doubt. it is a wonderful book
It’s a good book indeed, just that I personally found it quite a bit slow-paced in part I. Also there are so many characters in the story, if remembering them isn’t a big deal for you, then you can go for it.
I’ve read it three times in my life, loved it at each stage.
READ IT!!! It should be required reading.
One of the most powerful books ever written!!!
I didn’t like it, but each to their own ?
I loved it but I think it gets better if you look up the meaning and analysis of it if you’re still a bit confused on it. It became more powerful after doing an analysis of it in my English class 3 years ago
READ IT!!!! and also Go Set a Watchman. Loved these books.
