Is there any movies he particularly loves? Like with Harry Potter or Lord of the rings or any of that. Sometimes when you get them to read the book of a movie/tv show they really like that really gets them into books because it’s so much better.
@Norma, after going through everything by Patterson, Baldacci, Lee Child, Clive Cussler and others, we have just discovered CJ Box, and both my husband and I are completely hooked! Excellent author!
@Norma We’d run out of books to read so I was browsing the shelves at my library… and took a chance on Blue Heaven, one of the “standalones” and which is about half-way down CJ Box’s list of books. We both loved it but I couldn’t get my hands on the earlier ones right away… so I brought home “Three Weeks to Say Goodbye” (standalone) and “Nowhere to Run” (Joe Pickett series). I’ve put a hold on the earlier ones at our library, and those that aren’t available at all, I’ll be purchasing from Amazon! LOL Yes, we’re THAT hooked!
@Norma I’ve never listened to an audio book.. we’re kind of “old school”… we don’t even own a Kindle! LOL I have a similar list, by the way. I can’t rely on my old memory anymore! ?
Don’t laugh at me. The Harry Potter series. It starts out young, yes, but it also hooks you in and has you clamoring for the entire series. A great way to discover the joys of reading.
My husband read everything now but when he started to read it was probably James Patterson and Stuart Woods. the earlier titles. Also the Jack Reacher series.
What are those western cowboy short stories. They are easy to read. Haven’t seen one in a long time. A new male reader would most likely love them. I do. Oh, Louis L’amour.
If he likes to watch westerns any little bit, get him a Louis L’lamour one. I’m not even a fan of western movies but I really enjoy his. Well researched and well written!
Need more info on boyfriend! Great masculine adventure in ‘Jack Reacher’ series by Lee Child. Nelson DeMille has several really good ones. What kind of movies does boyfriend like? That would be good hints for the kind of books he’d like.
He’s outdoorsy, works outside…likes documentaries on tv, doesn’t like horror, prefers a real story over just a story…would like to read and actually learn something, but not magazines…
James Mitchner’s Centennial! Wonderful sweeping saga of East meets West in the United States. All of Mitchners novels are fantastic and very historical Hawaii is another great one.
My brother just started reading after many years. He got an Audible membership and the first thing he read was The Martian. He LOVED it! So I second that or third it, or whatever.?
Mr . Mercedes by Stephen King. Not scary! It is a murder mystery. Then if he really enjoys it, there are two books that follow. Also James Patterson Dean Koontz My husband is not a reader but enjoys these authors.
What does he like in a movie or tv show? That’d help with book suggestions.
Under the Dome by Stephen King, Silence of the Lambs, some John Grisham, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, the Wheel of Time series, Ender’s Game. Heck, he may even enjoy the Six of Crows duology. It’s not too heavy reading (being YA and all), but it’s got a little bit of everything in it.
He’s outdoorsy, works outside…likes documentaries on tv, doesn’t like horror, prefers a real story over just a story…would like to read and actually learn something, but not magazines…
He may enjoy Jon Krakauer then. Non-fiction books that weave a story with lots of good information too. Into the Wild was fantastic, but my husband has loved all of his books.
Another one he may enjoy is A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. Also non-fiction about hiking the Appalachian Trail. Hilarious in spots, but also informative.
Definitely Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series and he should start with the first one. They are fairly easy reads but get you hooked right away. I’ve read them all and LOVE them.
Mystery? Sci-Fi? Horror? James Patterson type stuff? What does he like?
I don’t think he knows yet, but he doesn’t like just a story, maybe a bit of real history in it might help…
The Last Days of Night by Graham Moore, historical fiction, it was good and more of a guy’s book in my opinion.
Is there any movies he particularly loves? Like with Harry Potter or Lord of the rings or any of that. Sometimes when you get them to read the book of a movie/tv show they really like that really gets them into books because it’s so much better.
