I need 2 start donating! So many wonderful organizations and causes can use the books. But I can’t seem 2 let go! Will make myself do so this weekend – right? Lol-
I counted mine! 73! Wow! So I’ve updated my TBR list- and have vowed 2 only read the unread books in my collection. Let’s see how long that lasts! Lol?
That was my goal this year, to read 55 of the 110 I started with. Somehow I have more than I started with and I’ve only read 25 so far. Too much time on this page reading *about* books. ?
I don’t remember where, but John Maynard Keynes wrote something like, “You should always own more books than you can possibly read.” I took that as gospel truth. Lol
Too many to count. A house without books is empty in my opinion. Love bookcases full of books. I have about ten of them. My dream home would have a massive library.
When I was younger I lived in a house who’s walls in the dining room were built in shelves. Never got all of them filled – but know I could easily do do now.
I do. I’ve read most, but some just get shoved to the back of the list. I’ve had Infinite Jest for over 20 years, read half, and never intend to finish.
I have so many, I’m afraid to count them. Most of them are used, so I got them extremely cheap… but it might number well over a hundred… so I don’t count ?
You are not alone. I have too many to count. My parents library, mine, part of an aunts and uncles all combine in my own mini-library. Every room in the house has at least one book case full of books. Many I have never even opened.
I have so many books I have not read yet. I just keep buying books that I want to read. I am apparently a book hoarder. LOL! So little time, so many books!!! ?
I have a lot of classics that I want to read but then all the great, new bestsellers come out and I get sidetracked. There just isn’t enough time in the day! I love my bookcase filled tho! So pretty.
I am afraid I own more books than I can read in my lifetime! But does that stop me from buying more books? Uh, no! There is always another book I hear or read about that I just have to have. And this site isn’t helping my addiction! ?
I have my books separated into sections. Working books(cooking, sewing, DIY, Etc.), books I have read and LOVE, books I keep for nostalgic reasons(Ive read them and want to read them to my children type of stuff), books I want to read and will probably give away or donate after reading, and books that my husband keeps because he loves them, books he wants to get rid of but I want to read( sort of with the read then donate pile) and lastly kids books Im collecting for my littles to read.
More than I can admit to. I’m trying to get them read now. Especially the ones I’ve had for awhile. Of course I’m doing this while trying to read some GAR books I hadn’t read before!! ?
Speaking for myself…yeah, pretty much. Late to this pleasure so it may be relavent. When get a new read I have selected it. Between selections re-read is fine time spent.
And those 8 emails every day, with free and bargain books, aren’t helping matters….not to mention the unbelievable deals and selection at http://thriftbooks.com/…
I bought so much stuff from them since GAR aired, never heard of them until I joined this book club….nearly all books and DVDs are $3 each after the discounts they offer….
We have two HALF PRICE BOOKSTORES in Louisvlle, KY…still a half hours drive each way to visit either of them…keep dropping hints that we, in southern Indiana can read and love to buy books too…..have to keep working that angle…I am getting to old to do the interstates between my house in southern IN and the two stores on the other side of Louisville.
Barbara Adams Whiteside….2 words….http://thriftbooks.com/…they have EVERYTHING….most books and DVDs are about $3 each after discounts, more than 50-75% off in most instances….and free shipping….
Also, your local library (usually through RB Digital or Overdrive apps), Internet Archive and Project Gutenberg have free e-books and audiobooks and LibriVox has audiobooks….
And I keep getting more. I bought 5 from the dollar tree this weekend and yesterday I returned three books to the library but picked up two more. LOL it’s never ending!!!
I just bought the 2 original books, Cheaper By The Dozen and Belles On Their Toes on Amazon….$3 Kindle Book Set, today only I believe….I always wanted to read CBTD….I love the original film….
Absolutely, books on shelves, in bags and boxes. My library has a monthly sale, grocery bag full of books for $5., second bag free. I love my library, lol!
A set of Mary Poppins my dad gave me as an adult, I don’t know why. And some witchy book by Janet Evanovitch that I haven’t read beyond the first chapter.
@Beth there’s also this used book store I go to that has trade credit. So,you can imagine how many books I’ve traded in for the next batch. It’s an addiction.
Not many. A couple because I was not in the right frame of mind to continue but I know I’ll have a run at ’em again. I’m really good about going through and weeding those I’ll never read again or that were a mistake to begin with.
Shelves lol…I buy book at thrift n yard sales, take them for free etc n put them on the shelves. I read a lot n I between library books and kindle books I read new ones from my shelves.
I have bought the same book more than once, when I still have it sitting at the house!! I’m currently looking for a book I bought last summer, that I forgot about…it has to be somewhere in this house!! Ugh!!
Of course you’re not alone! I have stopped buying books, relying now almost exclusively on my wonderful local library, for precisely that reason — too many books languishing unread on my shelves, and no more space to keep any more. I will never get to all the books I want to read, but I will happily keep trying!
I have so many on my bookshelf and on my Kindle that I haven’t read! That has never stopped me from getting more books. So I have plenty to read for the next few years ! ?
Oh yes, lots. My daughter-in-law was here yesterday and I chatted with her about the stack of ten or so “that I have decided I really want to read next:” As of January, I purged four full boxes of books and donated them to Planned Parenthood for their annual booksale. Those were ones I read or didn’t really ever want to read. That left about 80 (beyond the ones “I really want to read next) on the bookself that I WILL read someday?
@Nora I’m going to have this made into one of those vinyl wall things and hang it on the wall in my library. Once I unpack the books…I haven’t lived there that long yet. And I’d rather read a book than unpack them.
so many! and every time i see them, i feel inspired to read them and then….a new book is released and i’m pulled into that instead! it’s a permanent “TO READ” library! i still love them all though 🙂
“Think about it, it’s more clutter, do you really need it?” “Need schneed, it’s a book, leave me alone.” And thus is the conversation have with myself when I see books to buy or borrow. Not usually out loud though.?
@Pansy, are you in the Good Reads 2018 reading challenge? They ask you how many books you can read in a year and then you try to make your goal. You do have to enter each title to get credit for reading it. I read about 140 a year, but I still work full time so that slows me down!
Yes…and I also keep checking books out of the library, and downloading Kindle freebies, and perusing the used bookstore, and…more books, always, more books!
I have over 500 books on my Kindle (I’ve read about 100 of them so far but I am constantly adding new ones that I get from Bookbub), I go to the library 2x /month and take out at least 2 books, and I have a pile of ‘to read” books on the side of my bed and various bookshelves around my house. And I never pass an independent bookstore without a purchase.
All of the above, plus notes on books to read (paper and virtual), GoodReads to read list (always growing). Add that to everything else I wish to do and either I’m a dreamer or an immortal.
My Uncle made this bookcase for my aunt 80 years ago. I have filled it with my family’s collection of old books. My mother’s copy of Gone With the Wind-1936 and my grandfather’s The Life of General William T Sherman by James P Boyd, A. M., 1891. I have read many but not all of these books. They are all dear to my heart.
Many! I keep meaning to read some so I can put them out in my Little Free Library (unless I absolutely can’t part with them) but then something I’ve requested or found at the public library catches my eye, and I have to read it before needing to return it. So my own pile of books keeps growing, but definitely doesn’t seem to get smaller!
Me! I made myself a goal for this year to at least read 20 books. Doesn’t sound so hard but I’m a stay at home mother of two boys that definitely keep me busy. But so far I’m on book number 5 this year.
Shoooot! I have one bookcase on which 3 shelves are double- and triple-stacked with unread books, and my shelves in my livingroom also have many books still as yet unread, and my guest room has my Cherry Ames, Sue Barton, Happy Hollisters, and Bobbsey Twins collections that aren’t completely read yet.
I was a book hoarder and now I am a ebook hoarder. I had to make lists on Goodreads so I know what I have. I am crazy with it. I started borrowing ebooks from the Public Library. Controls me somewhat. Lol
Yep, that’s me. But I solved the problem by selling or donating most of my books, keeping just a few favorite ones I’d already read.
But a new problem has arisen. I now have a Kindle, and I’ve bought literally hundreds of ebooks that I haven’t read yet. In fact, in some cases, I bought ebook versions of the physical books I sold or donated.
Yep, bibliomania can be even worse with ebooks. But it doesn’t clutter your house.
One ebook marketer stands out for me: Open Road Media. They send an email every day of books on sale (usually priced between $1.99 to $3.99). I could live in their ebook backlist.
Tons!!! I never pass up good bargains on books at the thrift stores. Plus piles of library books. They are like happiness in the hand! I dream of having a library room and will have plenty to read in old age and on my way there ? ❤ ?
I am starting to get into the habit of getting it from the library instead of buying it but IT IS HARD! Some people have shoe addictions I have a book addiction?
I have never succeeded in getting through Shelby Foote’s Civil War trilogy. I think he was exceedingly knowledgeable, but I have trouble with his writing style. And, it’s too bad, because I am a former history teacher and still love to read history.
A few years ago I went to a book give away in Topeka, I pick up lots of books that I want to read ,and I have read some but most are still there waiting for me.
I think I’ve read all of the fiction, but I have many really old textbooks that I’ve looked over and been totally intrigued by the tiny print, old photos, odd info in some cases, but certainly haven’t read them all….haven’t even read one all the way through. Many teachers in the family from generations ago so that’s why I have these old books.?
I call it my “eventual shelf”! It’s pretty much an entire bookshelf devoted to them. Gifted books end up there. I found a GAR title or two that got promoted off the shelf this month!
I always buy the ones I really want to own, but then struggle to get them read whenever library holds with limited renewals arrive (and they always seem to appear in multiples!).
I haven’t read most of the books I own. I usually give them away after I read them, unless I think I might want to reread them. I have a ‘shelf of shame’ – books that I will probably never get around to reading – lol.
You are not alone! I buy them when I see them on sale and may not get around to reading them for months (or even longer?) I just love books and like to be around them!
Oh, yes I call the bookstore my candy shop! For me it’s so hard as there are so many great books to read. While I do use the library a lot, I just love reading too much where I can’t pass on buying books.
I have stacks of books that I haven’t began reading yet! I just can’t by pass a good book nor can I throw them out . That’s sacrilegious to me! People in my life have tried to get me to throw books out or donate , which I have done but they are my travels into other places , times and contain so much information, I just can’t do it!
2 shelves in the book case, 2 baskets full, a couple in my car just in case…yup! And since School has gotten out I bought 8-10 more!!! I’m a sucker for an intriguing story, and I’m always optimistic that I will get to them! ?????
I have so many I now have a personal rule that I need to read two books off the shelf before I can buy a new one. Too bad I am a horrible rule breaker. ?
You’re not alone. I have a ton. Most of those are a chapter in, but something distracted me or I pre-ordered it and was in the middle of reading something else. It’s a struggle.
I have at least two dozen. I keep those for book emergencies…those periods when I can’t get to the public library for a new supply of reading material. It’s a terrible thing to be without a book to read!
Nope, you are not alone! Between my Kindle, library book sales and buying bargain books, I’ve easily got 100 or more that I have yet to read. And yet I still hit up the new releases shelves at the library once or twice a month! ?
Lots and my husband, a non reader, doesn’t understand why I pick up more books when I haven’t read all the ones I have. I will some days but “my next book” depends on my mood and what book I read last.
I’m the same. There are a few books that I keep to re-read, but mostly I either trade them in at a used bookstore or give them away after I’ve read them.
Thank goodness! Several years ago I had over 400 & hubby was quite perplexed. I’ve finally gotten that down to about 75 – but I keep adding. Also, passing up a bookstore is just something I cannot do.
they are journeys waiting for me jump in. I line them up in preferred reading order on the book shelf, which sometimes changes. But I know I’ll get to them. This is in between my boring psych books I need to read for licensing exam.
I do not accumulate books that I have already read. I do not see the point. It’s like having a museum of clothes that I will never wear again. I do, however, have a small collection of ever-changing books that I plan to read on my shelves along with certain favorites, a few specialty and reference books. I do need to get rid of some of my college text books. That is going to be difficult. Parting is such sweet sorrow – they’re such fun to browse every so often.
Right! I have 906 books just on my Kindle. No way am I going to read all of them and some I’ve all ready read but I’m keeping them! Real books? Mercy. No chance I’d ever be able to count them all. I had to start taking more of my personal books to school for my classroom because my bookshelves just can’t take any more!
should take the 5th…I like to hoard from the thrift store but I am getting better at passing things along once I read them. I like that my library is becoming more digital. I’m also using the library quite a bit to read electronic books and audio books. No danger of a fine.
My son read them, and I kept them; I have never really had a desire to read them. (I know, shocking!) My librarian tells me to at least read the first one.
One of reasons why I married my husband was his love of books. Our favorite date is going to a bookstore. The first present he gave to me was a old Mickey Mouse book. We both have books that we haven’t read. We celebrate special occasions with new books.
Not likely. I just started to read one of my orphans only to find out a book I have to read by next week has 600 pages. Well, I’ll get to my ORPHAN another time. They give us books to look forward to reading.
I keep my “own but not yet read” books on a separate book shelf, with a few exceptions. On that bookshelf I have 77 unread books. I’m working on it though, LOL, by trying to keep my book buying to a minimal.
Ive tried that but my shelves are so full ( I have 5 bookcases in a small 3 bedroom trailer – all of them in my living room but one) that they are all mixed up. I have the next 2 days off after working 8 days straight. So Im hoping to put them in some kind of order
I only shop and support Independent Book Stores. I have a fantastic one that has daily author readings. Met some amazing authors, take classes and a lovely cafe.
I have said here before, it is better to have a shelf of books you haven’t read, then to need something to read and not have anything. I try to be prepared, and yes, buying books is therapy 🙂
I can’t even count how many I have – probably most of the non-picture books on my shelves – I work at a Library and a patron once came in and was worried about us being closed for a holiday “because she didn’t have any books at home” I could NOT relate ?
Lots and lots. I will never live long enough to read all of them. And then my favorite authors go and write new books. And I pass by the used book store at our local library and come home with a few more for 50 cents to a dollar. Totally addicted!
lol, Brian does the same. He once mentioned how I could resell my books after I have finished with them, and I said “but… I’m never finished with them.” His eyes nearly twisted out of his head.
Probably about 30 at last count and if I don’t quit thus GAR bookclub soon, I will have to move to a bigger house! Actually, most of the recommendations have gone on my wish list, but I have bought a few since this started.
I once upset a nun because I told her I didn’t want to go to heaven. My mother finally got it out of me that I didn’t want to go because the nun had said heaven was an eternal choir and I hated to sing. My mother told me heaven was full of libraries so I changed my mind
It is possible to start so many books in different formats and from different sources and in different locations in your life that you cannot remember a single consecutive plot point. Turns out that is carrying ridiculous far too far, as I discovered.
I have passed a lot of books along to others because i know I’ve read it and can’t keep all of them.. some i would not get rid of but others deserve a good home
I think I have at least a hundred books I haven’t read! And I keep getting more! I don’t think I’ll live long enough to read all the unread books I’ve got.
I will have to live to be at least 150 to read all the books and ebooks I have. That’s if I don’t keep checking out library books too, and that won’t happen.
I would get more read if I didn’t have a problem of falling asleep while reading (even if I LOVE the book). I think it is because I am so relaxed while reading that it puts me right out. Kind of hard to read all I want to though!
I would have 2 say that joining this book club has definitely increased my book collection. All of the recommendations from reliable sources – 4 a literary addict- it’s 2 hard 2 pass up! Sighhhhhhh
These recommendations are great! I’ve read two books this week without that feeling “have to finish it before book group meets”. That’s when I know it’s a good book. Reading w:o looking at the clock or wondering whats on TV
Always reading my way through them. Oh, a Goodwill opened near me. I never leave there without books. Once novels are read, I donate them to make room for more books.
I remember reading someone saying that having a library of unread books reflects your continous effort for knowledge. A library should serve as a visual reminder of what you don’t know. Keep collecting those books. 🙂
Of course. I can’t pass a Friends of the Library book sale without browsing and coming away with more books. That’s why this year I’m exclusively reading books I already own or can access electronically (such as at Internet Archive and Project Gutenberg for e-books and LibriVox for audiobooks, because I like having e-books for reading in bed at night and audiobooks to listen to). The only exception to this rule will be to fill a reading challenge prompt for a book published this year. But that will be something I get from the library so as not to add more books to my already overflowing shelves.
@Chris….I threw out hundreds of cassettes and VHS tapes when I moved from Minneapolis to NYC….boy, did I have a bad feeling as I tossed them down the garbage chute….
Ouch, that had to hurt. I purchased a converter to hopefully figure out how to put my tapes and vinyl on my computer. I’m down to just a few dozen VHS, replaced nearly all of them with DVDs.
Oh yeah, I listen on my turntable all the time. Somewhere between 2 and 3 hundred albums, and still buy more occasionally, hard to find good ones I want.
I’m also addicted to Jack White and White Stripes….I’m a Third Man Records Vault Member….so, I get a Jackie Whiteish Vinyl Box Set every three months in the mail….
My Bookoutlet hauls are getting really hard to hide from my husband, lol. They never cooperate with delivery dates that coincide with my days off work ??♀️ he actually pulled several books off the shelf and asked me if I’d read them before thinking of buying new ones. I think I blank stared at him so long he gave up waiting for an answer. He shook his head and sat down but then gave me the oddest look when I pulled the books out he removed and put them back in the right order. Then it was his turn to blank stare at me ??♀️
@Ann I do the same but I appear to bring in more books than go out. Last time I tried to cull books I thought I would never get around to reading, I managed to remove 1 single book. I guess that’s something, not a lot but something! ?
Several are part of my collection. Either I have not touched them, or have not completely read them. Maybe they are an investments, waiting for the right person to come along so I can gift them a volume.
Every time I am in Portland I make sure to carve out an extra day so I can wander in Powell’s (it is where I discovered Wendell Berry), have a coffee and take a deep breath among all those lovely printed pages!
The shelf above my clothes in the closet is my mini library dedicated to books I buy from the library book sale. Need to make room for more. October is coming
I keep coming up with “clever” ideas 2 solve this problem. I limited my TBR 2 100! Lol- I made a list of the books I have not read in my collection- promising myself I would read them b4 I brought in a new book. And then – treasures book store had the complete unabridged work of Dickens! All in a lovely red leather cover with beautiful hold lettering!!!!!! It was truly more than I could bear. But – my TBR is now down to 97!
My mother recently was going to “throw away” all of her books. I “rescued” them. Many are not my cup of tea. I will eventually sort through and figure out which ones I want to read, which ones I want to repurpose, and which ones I will just keep because I should have them on my bookshelf.
Have you seen the Twilight Zone episode where the world is destroyed- only an old man and a library are all that remain? He organizes the books in piles- according 2 when he’ll read them. And then- his glasses break. Sighhhh-
Stop spending good cash money on books, you can borrow nearly anything from http://archive.org/…simply download a copy to Kindle or Bookperk….you must borrow the book to access pdf files, return the book and you retain a permanent copy….
Tons. Real books and kindle books. And I use the library too.
Me too!
14 paper books and 20 ebooks….and growing by the day…
ugh. too many. 🙁 so many books so little time
I have about 120 on my book shelf that I have not read. ?
I’ll buy 5 books – and then only read 2 b4 the next book on the store or library shelf calls my name – so glad I’m not alone –
Lots. Too many books, too little time!
Sooooooooo many.
4 floor to ceiling book shelves overflowing. I read a book donate it then buy 3 more.
I need 2 start donating! So many wonderful organizations and causes can use the books. But I can’t seem 2 let go! Will make myself do so this weekend – right? Lol-
@April ???? I keep a few!
Many. I keep buying and borrowing from library too?
Me
Too many to count, between paper books and Kobo books
Real books (3) Kindle (a bunch).
LOL- the list would go on forever I’m afraid
I counted mine! 73! Wow! So I’ve updated my TBR list- and have vowed 2 only read the unread books in my collection. Let’s see how long that lasts! Lol?
I tried that….but books mysteriously keep adding themselves…
That was my goal this year, to read 55 of the 110 I started with. Somehow I have more than I started with and I’ve only read 25 so far. Too much time on this page reading *about* books. ?
@Linda darn book fairies!
Bunches. And yet I still get books from the library and buy more too.
I’m stocking up on books and yarn for my retirement.
I have retired have books and yarn happy happy
I did that, retired, acquired 2 grandsons I babysit and so not as much reading time as I expected but I continue to buy books!
Almost all my books are books I have not read. I rarely reread books so once I am done I pass the on to friends or the library sale.
Same.
I reread Jane Austin and Diana Gabaldon so I hold onto those.
I have a stack!
Lots and lots !!!!
I don’t remember where, but John Maynard Keynes wrote something like, “You should always own more books than you can possibly read.” I took that as gospel truth. Lol
i have tons
Me
I own a lot of books, and clearly I have more unread than read …
Can’t even count ?
I dunno, never counted, but there are many
Many, many! Both “real” & Kindle.
Too many to count. A house without books is empty in my opinion. Love bookcases full of books. I have about ten of them. My dream home would have a massive library.
When I was younger I lived in a house who’s walls in the dining room were built in shelves. Never got all of them filled – but know I could easily do do now.
Hundreds!
Oh, I have a bunch. It is like my buying yarn cuz it looks like Fun! ???
With me it’s hooks and quilting- supplies.
Yup – if books and yarn are drugs, call me an addict.
I do. I’ve read most, but some just get shoved to the back of the list. I’ve had Infinite Jest for over 20 years, read half, and never intend to finish.
Dozens! I can’t stop buying books!
No, you’re not alone. Books from the library always seem to supersede ones I own. Guess I’m saving them for when I can’t get to my library!
I used to stockpile in the summer for winter when I can’t get out but online shopping means I can buy all year!!
My theory was I’ll be ok when I retire and won’t have money to buy books , so I stock up !!!
Bookmarks magazine comes out. I buy more than I can possibly read in 2 months before the next issue is published.
I do. Too many to count!
Hundreds
Me too!
I have so many, I’m afraid to count them. Most of them are used, so I got them extremely cheap… but it might number well over a hundred… so I don’t count ?
Dozens here as well
More than I could read before I die.
Same. ?
Many
Um yeah I have YEARS of reading material
You are not alone. I have too many to count. My parents library, mine, part of an aunts and uncles all combine in my own mini-library. Every room in the house has at least one book case full of books. Many I have never even opened.
Too many to count!! ?
Alone? I think there’s an army of us! So many books, so little time…and sometimes one gets bumped further down the list….
I am reading these two right now that have been upstairs in a box.
Hi Kath!
Both on Kindle and “real”. Fortunately some were on the GAR list!!
Me!
Of my entire collection, I have probably read about 60%, which means I have around 200 I haven’t. I like a deep TBR pile.?
Do the 400+ books on my kindle count?
Me!
Guilty!
Yeah…but going too
Many, many!!
I buy faster than I can read.
I do.
Yes, many!
Too many to count
Boxes of them..
Lol ohhhh of course … I thought that was required to be a part of this recovery group. ?
??
More than half of these, I’m sure.
Me!
It is my true addiction, don’t need rehad just more books.
I have a library in my home and originally had one “to read’ shelf. That has grown to three. I can buy them far quicker than I can read them.
I inherited a 30 volume set of the complete works of Anthony Trollop, published by Gebby &Co, Philedelphia – 1902, which I have yet to read
I have no issue with that.
Lol of course
Oh so many
Oh my word. Hundreds!!!!
Over 200 and probably 1000 on my Kindle.
more than I can literally count….but they are on my list…lol
I have so many books I have not read yet. I just keep buying books that I want to read. I am apparently a book hoarder. LOL! So little time, so many books!!! ?
It’s not hoarding if it’s books. ?
@Tammy I like how you think. ?
I plan to live a long life and I have to so I can finish all the books I own
My physical TBR list is over 100… SOOOOO yeah hahaha
I spend way too much money on books. I eventually will read them all.
I have every book written by Tony Hillerman, both fiction and non-fiction.
Me!
So many…and I keep buying and buying.
Lots!
More in the TBR area than I have life span left!!
????? yes
Probably about 500. It makes pretty wall-dressing!
Hundreds. Unabashedly hundreds.
Me too!
@Jan And I STILL get books out of the library. Even though I have more books than a medieval monastery in my little house…..
I bet I haven’t read 1/3 of the books I own! ?
It’s a long, long, well practiced plan..
Lots waiting
Many of them
Me
Absolutely!
I’d rather not discuss ?
More than I’ll ever get read!
Yes. I do find freebie books & sale books so they get put out of sight. Apparently I need a bigger bookcase… or 2
Gotta have a stash
Tons but it is delicious just looking at them!
Dozens, probably more like hundreds.
Me, too!
??♀️ a little more than I like to admit?
I have a lot of classics that I want to read but then all the great, new bestsellers come out and I get sidetracked. There just isn’t enough time in the day! I love my bookcase filled tho! So pretty.
Many
I am afraid I own more books than I can read in my lifetime! But does that stop me from buying more books? Uh, no! There is always another book I hear or read about that I just have to have. And this site isn’t helping my addiction! ?
Piles and piles and I continue to collect more.
Shelves full of books I haven’t read!!! The one positive I can say is I purchased “most”at used books sales, yard sales, and thrift shops!!
And currently have 3 books checked out of the library!!!
A few hundred…intend to read them all…we’ll see
At least a hundred. ?
Hundreds
Oh, I have a bookshelf full that I haven’t read yet! I’m not proud of it, but I do.
??? Next question!???
Shelves and piles
Me.
No.
Several!!
Most of them, lol!
Too many to count. But still buy more.
Ha!!!!!!! Sacks and sacks of them!!!!
??♀️??♀️
Yes, I own many books that I have not read.
No no
HAHA. Of course we have books we haven’t read!!
Im thinking of adding a section of books I want my husband to read. And Id be ok if he added one for me too. ?
So many!
Yes, I have a few! Haha
Many
The TBR pile is over 50 and growing.
More than I can admit to. I’m trying to get them read now. Especially the ones I’ve had for awhile. Of course I’m doing this while trying to read some GAR books I hadn’t read before!! ?
I have too many TBR books!
Sooooo many!
I will not live long enough to read the books on my “to read” list.
You’re going to love retirement.??
Buy more every week.
??
Tons
No I have a lot. It’s a problem and my family is planning an intervention soon.
I believe 1/3 of my home library is unread. I find I’m adding all the time even though will always have TBR books. 🙂
There’s a pile next to my easy chair. And a pile on my bedside table…
Literally, hundreds….and I’m awaiting more that will arrive in the mail….I can’t resist a bargain….
Too many
An ever-growing pile of them… 😉
Lots. Getting to the now .
A very big stack!
https://www.fs.blog/2013/06/the-antilibrary/
Interesting idea. Thanks for posting!
Lots, lost count
I have several. I keep seeing books on this list that I haven’t read in quite a while so I keep wanting to reread other books
I have two book cases full of unread books
You are so not alone – I have hundreds of unread books. Quite ridiculous really
https://www.brainpickings.org/2015/03/24/umberto-eco-antilibrary/
Lots and lots I haven’t read . Doesn’t stop me from buying more either ?
Thought it was the law.
Read a book, get 5 more… lol
Speaking for myself…yeah, pretty much. Late to this pleasure so it may be relavent. When get a new read I have selected it. Between selections re-read is fine time spent.
Heavens no!!! I can’t stop buying books. Really don’t like reading ebooks either!
Between 1/4 to 1/3 of my owned books are unread…..
I only have a few that I haven’t read, and they are the ones I’ve recently picked up. ????
I have several.
I have many!
I’m ashamed to admit how many I have.
Lots!
I own 300+….
I have plenty to choose from 😉
Too many!!
I know, I have problem. Just can’t seem to stop
I have thousands of books to read!! My husband thinks I’m nuts!
Probably have more unread than read…read 1 buy 3
way too many and still, I NEED more.
And those 8 emails every day, with free and bargain books, aren’t helping matters….not to mention the unbelievable deals and selection at http://thriftbooks.com/…
@Michael I just put the thriftbooks app on my phone – you enabler – lol
I should get a commission from them, for my word of mouth advertisements….
@Michael love ThriftBooks!!!!
Barbara Adams Whiteside….2 words….http://thriftbooks.com/…they have EVERYTHING….most books and DVDs are about $3 each after discounts, more than 50-75% off in most instances….and free shipping….
will check it out…thanks.
Also, your local library (usually through RB Digital or Overdrive apps), Internet Archive and Project Gutenberg have free e-books and audiobooks and LibriVox has audiobooks….
Close to 50. My daughter keeps giving me books and I have to read them first.
Most books I’ve read are not mine hihihi
Oh man… my kindle is overloaded! If only I didn’t have to work all day!
Alot
More than I am old!!!!
Yep!
I’m so glad to hear I’m not alone! I have about a hundred and I just bought two yesterday at the library, one was Fahrenheit 451!
Lots of them.
More than a few.
Of course!
I own tons, that I have not read!
I have filled up my shelves and have books stacked up walls!
Lol…yes?
I do
Hundreds LOL
Me too. Alas, I imagine that I have only read about 1/3 of what I own.
And I keep getting more. I bought 5 from the dollar tree this weekend and yesterday I returned three books to the library but picked up two more. LOL it’s never ending!!!
I know what you mean. LOL I ordered one yesterday.
Many, many books
And yet I still keep buying more books! The struggle is real.
I do
I just bought the 2 original books, Cheaper By The Dozen and Belles On Their Toes on Amazon….$3 Kindle Book Set, today only I believe….I always wanted to read CBTD….I love the original film….
I once had a button, got it at Frankfurt Book Fair when I was a bookseller. The button said “So many books, so little time!”
I need a bag like that so I can put my many books in it ?
Lots and lots and lots! It’s definitely an addiction. I’ve eased up on the purchasing lately by using the library and Overdrive.
I do
Absolutely, books on shelves, in bags and boxes. My library has a monthly sale, grocery bag full of books for $5., second bag free. I love my library, lol!
A set of Mary Poppins my dad gave me as an adult, I don’t know why. And some witchy book by Janet Evanovitch that I haven’t read beyond the first chapter.
Couple of dozen.
I buy them constantly. They are everywhere.
Maybe 30-40?
Then there are those books that are really difficult to read. Best example is Ulysses by James Joyce of course.
I would never have made it through Ulysses if it hadn’t been required for a college course.
@Stacy That must have been torture.
Anthony Burgess wrote a book about Joyce, that is a helpful reading.
@Hans-Joachim I loved The Dubliners and Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. At least I somewhat knew what to expect when I got to Ulysses. ?
Way more than I wish to admit.
About 300
My husband and I have stacks and shelves full. We get through them eventually but then there’s the purchases…lol
The thrill of the buy!! That new book smell❤️❤️❤️
@Beth there’s also this used book store I go to that has trade credit. So,you can imagine how many books I’ve traded in for the next batch. It’s an addiction.
@Kelly I have a place like that close too??????
On this page, I suspect if you DON’T own books you haven’t read you’d more than likely be alone. ? ????????? ……
I have a bunch on numerous subjects. I could get through them, but the library keeps getting new books that also need reading.
Not many. A couple because I was not in the right frame of mind to continue but I know I’ll have a run at ’em again. I’m really good about going through and weeding those I’ll never read again or that were a mistake to begin with.
I need 2 learn 2 do that!
I have ~300 and I plan to read all of them, if only I would stop going to the library and using Overdrive! ???
I have an entire tower of books I have not read! I simply love the feeling of being surrounded by books, I guess.
i have a small stack, i’m afraid of needing e new one and not having it
I do…
Shelves lol…I buy book at thrift n yard sales, take them for free etc n put them on the shelves. I read a lot n I between library books and kindle books I read new ones from my shelves.
So many I’ll never have time to read all of them!
Are you kidding?
Absolutely! I thought everybody had a “books to read” stack!
About a gazillion!
?♀️?♀️
Tons of them!
Me too!
My husband says that I shouldn’t go to any more book sales until I have read the ones i have… but then I go to the library!
My piles get bigger n bigger
Worse yet, how many do a book purge & then turn around and re-buy the same books you gave away? Asking for a friend ?
I have bought the same book more than once, when I still have it sitting at the house!! I’m currently looking for a book I bought last summer, that I forgot about…it has to be somewhere in this house!! Ugh!!
@Mary you make me feel better – at the moment I have 3 duplicates that I know of!!
I think I have purchased “Tess of the D’ubervilles” on three separate occasions and still haven’t read it.
You are not alone
Lots.
That’s funny.
Yes,but eventually I will get to them.
You are not alone
You are not alone! The bigger question is how many books do you own that you haven’t read
A few. But more that I “only” read once and hope to read again.
You are not alone! Now sure how many but there are quite a few.
At least 200
I have many unread books
Yep, have a few of those.
??♀️ to many to count, and I just ordered another one from Amazon ???♀️
Too many!!
Is this a trick question? Who doesn’t own unread books? By the score! Hahahaha!
And even though I own books I haven’t read, I still check out several at a time from the library!
Oh, lots
Only about 250 or so ☺️
??
I have a lot! I blame the buy with one click option on Amazon. ?
That one click buying makes it way too easy
I have shelves full of books I’ve not read yet. And still buying more!
If I don’t have 10 or 12 waiting for me I get anxious
I have a lot of unread treasures that I pick up from yard sales and thrift stores.
Let’s just say in the event of a Zombie apocalypse, I’m good.
I have a whole shelf full.
Have any of you folks been analyzed? You could save me a trip to a shrink!
If I say yes, will you remove me from this group? Please don’t because I love it!
Me
Lots 😀
But I WANT to read them . . . Just as soon as I finish the three I ‘m reading now.
No
Of course! But I still need more new books!
Many, many
Nope
I have a bookcase full!
You are not alone! I own many books I haven’t read. And I just keep buying more! (Though I do borrow many from the library too!)
Stacks and stacks
It’s more like I’ve read more books than I own.
No??
Of course you’re not alone! I have stopped buying books, relying now almost exclusively on my wonderful local library, for precisely that reason — too many books languishing unread on my shelves, and no more space to keep any more. I will never get to all the books I want to read, but I will happily keep trying!
You are not alone, lol! I have several and I just bought 8 more books today!
No
I am a book hoarder!!!!? I must always have books ready to fill the gap… which I never allow to happen….
Tons! And I always think of them when I am thinking of buying a new book – and then I buy it anyway!
If we didn’t own books we haven’t read, what would there be to read next? ?
I have a whole huge bookshelf of books I haven’t read yet ?
Hundreds
No
No
Those are only books I haven’t read, YET.
Most books I own I have not read.
My eyes are always hungrier than I am able to actually tackle. I also have a (used) bookstore addiction.
Me too!
I have 1 bookcase dedicated for “books to read”.
I do and call them motivation.
Too many
I have so many on my bookshelf and on my Kindle that I haven’t read! That has never stopped me from getting more books. So I have plenty to read for the next few years ! ?
You are definitely not alone.
No you are not, ive got loads all to be read on of these days?
No, you are not! I’d be embarrassed to admit how many books I own & have not read yet. And I do not mean simply double digits … ?
I’m in that boat too!
Too many to count!
Yep!
I’m one to buy books then just keep taking out books from the library to read instead for some reason.
I’ve lost count after five.
Yes, but I’ll get to all of them… maybe
Have a stack!
Hundreds, hundreds and they keep coming. In addition to my actual books, I have at least 250 on my Kindle
My people!
Yes! This!
Yes. I feel like since they are mine, there is no hurry.
?PP?
Donated to Planned Parenthood! YAY! I Love books and P.P. and I donate small amounts of money to them frequently, keep it up the great job!!?
100s of them…
I figure I will have to live to be 108 to get all my books read.
Good luck!
No
Yes
You are not alone. I think it would be difficult to find that anyone is unique; despite our fear and desire of uniqueness. ?
I would guess I own at least twenty books I have not yet read. Went to the bookstore yesterday too! ?
I have so many I don’t even know how many. They are my security blanket.
You are not alone
It gets worse if you read several books at once…
???
You are not alone! I have about 5 that I need to read!
But of course.
Hundreds. This pic is my new motto.
Saved
@Nora I’m going to have this made into one of those vinyl wall things and hang it on the wall in my library. Once I unpack the books…I haven’t lived there that long yet. And I’d rather read a book than unpack them.
Oh, yeah….
so many! and every time i see them, i feel inspired to read them and then….a new book is released and i’m pulled into that instead! it’s a permanent “TO READ” library! i still love them all though 🙂
Me!
Have a stack also!!
A full book case of them!
I own books that I haven’t read——-YET!
You’re not a true book nerd if you don’t have a gigantic stack of books that you haven’t gotten around to reading yet.
I fully intend to read those.
“Think about it, it’s more clutter, do you really need it?”
“Need schneed, it’s a book, leave me alone.”
And thus is the conversation have with myself when I see books to buy or borrow. Not usually out loud though.?
I have to live to 175 to read all the books I own
I don’t count so I don’t feel guilty buying more books ??♀️??♀️??♀️
And I don’t even know how to read, that’s the craziest thing….
I read about 300 a year
Impressive
Wow I read 100 last year, I do work full time and have 3 children and housework that keeps me busy. 300 wow
I am 61 an work my husband is very sick so I stay home a lot
@Pansy, are you in the Good Reads 2018 reading challenge? They ask you how many books you can read in a year and then you try to make your goal. You do have to enter each title to get credit for reading it. I read about 140 a year, but I still work full time so that slows me down!
@Pansy sorry to hear about your husband.
@Roslyn no ijusr do itcause I love to read
@Roslyn rhank you
No not at all ?
Several! I keep buying new ones that I want to read. Life gets in the way of reading!
Many!!
Yes…yes..YES. I thought there was something inherently wrong with me??
No ! There is nothing wrong with you ! It’s okay Beth ! Lol
Me
Yes…and I also keep checking books out of the library, and downloading Kindle freebies, and perusing the used bookstore, and…more books, always, more books!
Moi, aussi (me, too). Plus yarn, patterns, etc.
Of course, what book to read is related to the moment the question is asked.
500 -600… ish. I have problems.
I have books I havent read yet.
I suspect the same number of people who own clothes that don”t fit (“I’ll lose that 10 lbs someday:-) ).
Bookcases full.
Yep me
On the To Read list, both actual books and kindle
My Uncle made this bookcase for my aunt 80 years ago. I have filled it with my family’s collection of old books.
My mother’s copy of Gone With the Wind-1936 and my grandfather’s The Life of General William T Sherman by James P Boyd, A. M., 1891. I have read many but not all of these books. They are all dear to my heart.
Me!!
Totally with you. I’ll never get them all read before I die.
I have enough books on the shelf to read for a year … at least.?
my TBR shelves and bag are busting at the seams. I keep getting library books at 3 different libraries
Me
Of course, I do. Because I wouldn’t want to be left with nothing to read! Duh.
guilty as charged.
Oh no I have many!
No you are not alone
I own so many books I haven’t read yet. I ❤️ books!
Do I ever? It is as if I have a fear of running out of books to read so I have a large stockpile.
No idea, rough guess 700-800 books I own and haven’t read yet.Just ordered 3 more.
That I have not read *yet*
Yes me!!!
Me too
Me. I
A bookcase full of unread books is a life insurance policy. Can’t go anywhere, I haven’t finished reading all of my books.
exactly! i’m not allowed to die until i read them all. at this point, i think i’ll outlive the sun 😛
@April i’m ok with this.
I have over 100 books that I personally own that I haven’t read and even more than 100 on my to buy list
I have 2894 books on my Goodreads ‘want to read’ list, I only own about 600-700 of them.
??♀️??♀️
A couple hundred
I have read everything I own but I do have some in read library books
I often buy books that resonate with me and don’t read them sometimes for years….
You never know when I might need a book to read!! ?
Maybe 25 or so?
People keep writing them…we must keep up
The great authors conspiracy! ??
Me! I made myself a goal for this year to at least read 20 books. Doesn’t sound so hard but I’m a stay at home mother of two boys that definitely keep me busy. But so far I’m on book number 5 this year.
You are not alone – I bet I have almost 100 ! ????
So many and doesn’t stop me from buying more!
Me!! Lost count?!
Many. I tell myself that I am stocking up for the day when I can’t get out to buy more! What can I say? Gives me comfort.?
I’m the same way. Knowing I would at least have books if I became destitute brings me comfort!
Of course. Probably over 100. I’ll get to them.
Hmmmm?.yes
I have stacks everywhere.
Oh I didn’t include kindle.. probably 6-700
DO NOT read “Vampires in the lemon grove” by Karen Russell. Our book club read and every one of us hated it!
Hundreds probably!! ?
I was a book hoarder and now I am a ebook hoarder. I had to make lists on Goodreads so I know what I have. I am crazy with it. I started borrowing ebooks from the Public Library. Controls me somewhat. Lol
I think I’ve read maybe three shelves of this mess ?
There’s a book for that…
A bookcase full!
Me too! Haha
I am in the same situation, especially with the sales from Kindle, Bookhub etc. ?
One ebook marketer stands out for me: Open Road Media. They send an email every day of books on sale (usually priced between $1.99 to $3.99). I could live in their ebook backlist.
Thanks ! Another place for me to check out! ?
You are never alone if you have a book.
I own hundreds of books I haven’t read.
Tons!!! I never pass up good bargains on books at the thrift stores. Plus piles of library books. They are like happiness in the hand! I dream of having a library room and will have plenty to read in old age and on my way there ? ❤ ?
No, you are not alone! I have many many many books that have not been read yet. Key word-yet!
A lot! My to be read books are starting to pile up. I don’t give up hope of getting them all read. 🙂
Me too
Loads! Hardbacks, paperbacks, and dozens of ebooks!
A bunch!?
Me too
Me
I have hundreds I have not read yet!
A shelf full!
Yeah, the kindle is dangerous…no way to keep track of the “stacks’ to be read
I am starting to get into the habit of getting it from the library instead of buying it but IT IS HARD! Some people have shoe addictions I have a book addiction?
Me too!
Sigh. Yep.
Oh, my, I’m sure I own thousands of books I haven’t read! I’ll get to them…?
Or is there anyone who has read all the books they own, say in your “posession” a year or more? Not me
It was my New Years resolution to read the books on my shelf and not buy a new one. I am making my way through the 53 I had to read!
so many. Especially the really small print ones. Sorry I didn’t buy them for my kindle.
Ah yep ?
I own a few I have not read… yet. A couple I’m saving for retirement.
A stack.
At least 20.
I have a stack. Just in case……
I have about 50 books on my Kindle that I haven’t read.
Hahahahaha. So is “thousands” an acceptable answer?
absolutely 🙂
So many.
5 bookcases a bunch of drawers and a shelf in the closet
Literally, hundreds
Every book on my shelves have been read.
I couldn’t begin to tell you.
Oh yes
Probably a hundred or so…it’s okay, though. They are good company regardless!
You are not alone!?
You have to in case you get caught in some type of disaster and can’t get more right? The ultimate fear is having nothing new to read.
I agree.
Many…
yes
We keep saying we won’t buy anymore until we read all that we have. Then we walk by a bookstore and best intentions go out the window!?
Too many to count!
I have never succeeded in getting through Shelby Foote’s Civil War trilogy. I think he was exceedingly knowledgeable, but I have trouble with his writing style. And, it’s too bad, because I am a former history teacher and still love to read history.
Deborah Hamilton You are right. I enjoyed hearing him talk about the war much more than I enjoyed reading his account of it.
Many…started not finished yet. 🙂
Me!! Someday I will…
I sometimes forget that I own them or where they came from…I think I may have too many books.
A LOT of them.
Too
Many ?
Me
Me, you are not alone.
Me
Quite a few ?
Oh, LOTS.
I ordered 5 books for summer reads .. don’t know where to start!
I have 2 shelves of books to be read and yet I just keep accumulating more.
That’s! Me! Here I am complaining – and what did I do 2day? I bought the complete unabridged works of Charles Dickens! Ohh I couldn’t resist.
I own hundreds of books I haven’t read.
Books you haven’t read are part of the fun.
I call it my “eventual shelf”! It’s pretty much an entire bookshelf devoted to them. Gifted books end up there. I found a GAR title or two that got promoted off the shelf this month!
I prefer to think of them as books on deck. The deck is just really, really, REALLY big.
Me
I probably have fifty or more books that i haven’t read.
I always buy the ones I really want to own, but then struggle to get them read whenever library holds with limited renewals arrive (and they always seem to appear in multiples!).
Saving for the day I can’t get to the library ?
I own lots of books I’ve never read (but I will someday!)
Gotta stave off abibliophobia
I hope I spelled that correctly.
Working on it ?
A few…but remarkably only a few. If i buy a book I read it.
I have a book shelf full and a tote full!! Someday.
Tons….
Me
Lots- probably 40 – 50
Always!
a few.
I’ve got thousands of books that I haven’t read! I won’t be able to get through them all even if I live to be as old as Methuselah. Lol
Many!
Not only that, I keep buying more!!! 🙂
Me too! ?
I just haven’t gotten to them all yet.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE….?
I got over 100 in my tbr. LOL!
I haven’t read most of the books I own. I usually give them away after I read them, unless I think I might want to reread them. I have a ‘shelf of shame’ – books that I will probably never get around to reading – lol.
No shame Cathy ! There is no word “ shame “ when it comes to books! Think positive, what a joy to own so many books!
I buy books w the intent to read. However Life happens and there they sit. Lol
I do
Basically my entire bookshelf ?
I ended up buying additional bookcases for all the books I have that I haven’t read yet. ?
Hundreds
Yep!
I do!!!
Close to 400, not counting the Kindle ones… then it is around 1,000.
Too many too count…tbr
Tons!
Stocking up for retirement- if I live that long.
Confirmed book junkie ✌️
I have a book buying problem lolol!! I have many that I haven’t read.
i have a back stock of 3 to 5 at any given time, but eventually I get through them, only to replace with more to be read.
My tribe ❤️
I built two, seven foot bookcases a year ago. I still needed one more, then I inherited my sister’s books so now I will need two.
I have a whole bookcase!!!
You are not alone. So many books, so little time. That is what a “TBR” shelf is for
Yes! Yet I keep buying them! ?
I can’t talk about it… My brother always threatens to have a book sale from my house every time I go out of town.
??
OMG, NO ! Thank Goodness he hasn’t tossed your books ?
You are not alone! I buy them when I see them on sale and may not get around to reading them for months (or even longer?) I just love books and like to be around them!
Oh, yes I call the bookstore my candy shop! For me it’s so hard as there are so many great books to read. While I do use the library a lot, I just love reading too much where I can’t pass on buying books.
No you are not alone
Too many to count, sad to say! Would help if I’d stop acquiring more!
I never throw them out. I give them to friends, trade them or donate them to charity.
No you’re not alone I have so many ..too many to count.
Dozens
Yes, they taunt me!
I have a few. I won’t buy more until I read them though.
3 large bookcases full ?
2 shelves in the book case, 2 baskets full, a couple in my car just in case…yup! And since School has gotten out I bought 8-10 more!!! I’m a sucker for an intriguing story, and I’m always optimistic that I will get to them! ?????
Many.
You’re not alone. My TBR grows everyday.
You are not the only one!
I currently have 1500+ books on my Goodreads Want To Read List – I don’t own all of them – and some of them I have read and not re-categorized
Categorizing and playing with books are part of the fun, too, IMO.
I have a big supply on my Kindle. ?
OMG, thank God for books! Where would we be without books ! I can’t begin to imagine! Reading is a need for me !
Nope. You are not alone.
Many
Oh my word. I have plastic bins full. Can’t wait to retire.
Lots! I panic when my stack gets low. You never know when a bad blizzard might happen?!
Lol ? I get it !
I’ll get to them… eventually.?
Guilty!
Not alone. I have 2 full shelves worth that I’m making my way through, along with new ones.
Once I read in a book by Cory Doctorow “What’s the point of a bunch of book you’ve already read?”
It’s called a library! Anyone can lend books and get other people to read them.
Tons and tons
Oh yes, one is a Dan Brown book club pick. I’ve got to get going on that one.
??♀️??♀️
About 200!!
I have so many I now have a personal rule that I need to read two books off the shelf before I can buy a new one. Too bad I am a horrible rule breaker. ?
Me too just bought four more today
I have lots
Someday I’ll read them!
Piles
You’re not alone. I have a ton. Most of those are a chapter in, but something distracted me or I pre-ordered it and was in the middle of reading something else. It’s a struggle.
You are not alone!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a lot. The biggest is Ulysses which I started and just couldn’t get through. Also lots of short story collections.
Well, it’s not like they go bad or spoil…I’ll eventually read them. ?
My Kindle is full of them. I just can’t stop myself.
I have a 20+ to read books.
Many and may I live long enough to read them!
So many….
Several hundred at least. I see a new. Ok and have to have. Kindle and Amazon make it too easy! But hopefully will get to them
me
Dozens…
I have at least two dozen. I keep those for book emergencies…those periods when I can’t get to the public library for a new supply of reading material. It’s a terrible thing to be without a book to read!
I buy books where ever i see them….
I do.
Like a whole tote full. 🙁 sooooo many books, so little time!!!
Me
I only own 367 books that I have not read. I fully intend to read all these plus more that are on my TBR list. Wish me luck!
Dozens at least. Maybe more than 100. Especially digital books. I’ll get to them “someday.”
Someday Never Come, As John Fogerty Once Said….
https://youtu.be/p9TNXFurt5w
Is this a serious question? 🙂
And most of the rest are unfinished
Hundreds
I do
Another hundred or more in my house, too. Not to mentions the downloads in Kindle and iBooks.
Nothing to see here, folks. Move along… (lalalalalalalalala…) ???
Tons.
I sure do
Me! Lots of them.
Nope, you are not alone! Between my Kindle, library book sales and buying bargain books, I’ve easily got 100 or more that I have yet to read. And yet I still hit up the new releases shelves at the library once or twice a month! ?
Tons
Me
I will not live long enough to read them all.
Me!
Lots.
Me
Several copies in some cases … if I had read them I might not have purchased multiples
??
I WILL read them some day, of course…
Me!!!!
Me
I have abt 150 books in bins waiting to be read. I get them at used book sales. You are not alone.
A LOT!
Many!! I keep acquiring them to read someday
A whole bookcase! You are definitely not alone!
Not alone. Lol!
Of course you are not alone all readers have a pile of unread books at all times.
Tons!
Me
You have lots of company
On the shelves and in the Kindle!
Oh don’t even get me started with books on the kindle! I’m pretty sure I should start a self-help group.
Me, too! And I recently discovered http://goodwillbooks.com/!
@Verena oh no! I had no idea!
So many books
So little time!!!
@Angela Yes indeed and more books on the way. Think we could order more time also?
So many.
MEEEEEE!!!
You always need backups!
No. Not allowed in the bookcase unless they have been read and only 4 allowed in queue.
No you are not
I have over 180 books on a Goodreads list of tbr owned. My whole goal of 2018 was to read 50 or get rid of half.
No you are not alone
I keep buying books. My list keeps getting bigger.
I do! Tons!
You’re supposed to read them all ???
No one told me either! ✌️
I’m not sure I’m ready to live anywhere but the state of denial on this one just yet.
I buy them knowing they’ll be read one day, eventually.
That’s actually a good attitude! I’ll make it my chantra- ” I will read the some day – I will read them some day” I’m feeling better!
@April there you go ☺️
Yes I own a couple I have not read, but it’s truly just due to addiction!
??♀️??♀️
Oh yes
Yoy are far from alone!
I havve many. But vow to some day catch up.
me!! and I can’t even guess how many right now!
I do have my pile of books…eventually I will read them all!!!
Not at all alone!
Too many to count!
Every time that I tell myself I am only going to read the books on my shelves, I see or hear about one that I just HAVE to get and read!
This is me! The struggle is real!
I just ordered 3 more because I really really want to read them
I told myself that and went to the library and found 3 brand new books and 2 more on my to read list today. It is a never ending saga!
Only because they are on the to be read list.
Hundreds here!
Same
Absolutely!!! Exciting to just look at and smile!
Too many to count.
279 sitting in my office, and at least another 100 on my wishlist. I wish reading could be my full time job.
Me, too.
Hahaha!
Way too many. I have three small children. My reading time is very limited lately.
I have several. My church has two book sales a year, and I can’t resist. You are definitely not alone.
Not ar all.
Do Not Not Go Into the Used Bookstore. Do Not Go Into the Bookstore. Do Not …. oh, hell, never mind.
I have so many, I have a problem. But I also want to one day have an entire library in my house, so I’m working on that…
thrift stores are so dangerous
So many unread books at my house.?
Several now and many lifetime. ?
Lots and my husband, a non reader, doesn’t understand why I pick up more books when I haven’t read all the ones I have. I will some days but “my next book” depends on my mood and what book I read last.
We all need dreams
I keep very few books that I’ve already read, and I own a lot of books!
I’m the same. There are a few books that I keep to re-read, but mostly I either trade them in at a used bookstore or give them away after I’ve read them.
@Sonya I do the same thing and still have a book case full!
I have hundreds! I keep thinking I eventually will have the time to finish them all
Thank goodness! Several years ago I had over 400 & hubby was quite perplexed. I’ve finally gotten that down to about 75 – but I keep adding. Also, passing up a bookstore is just something I cannot do.
@Sharon don’t forget those library book sales! It’s for a good cause!
Yes, but….someday.
they are journeys waiting for me jump in. I line them up in preferred reading order on the book shelf, which sometimes changes. But I know I’ll get to them. This is in between my boring psych books I need to read for licensing exam.
I have a shelf full and a few dozen on my kindle.
I have at least 3 dozen on my shelves that I havent read. Yet
Just a couple thousand.
Hundreds. It’s an addiction I admit it!
I own the entire Harry Potter series and have never read one of them. 🙂
Get to it!
Sit down right now and start. Time’s a-wasting
It’s time ….
My son read them, and I kept them; I have never really had a desire to read them. (I know, shocking!) My librarian tells me to at least read the first one.
@Tina I was not crazy about the first one. By the time I got to the third, I was IN LOVE. Each volume gets more nuanced and sophisticated.
I promised myself I would read the first one this summer.
@Judy, good plan! I should commit to that, but I have so many others on my list! 🙂
@Tina I pretend that reading an extra book earns me bonus points.
@Judy, I’ve learned a lot of bonus points this summer! 🙂
A 73 yr old friend of mine. Ran out lof books while staying in a teenagers room. She started while desparate for something to read, now on book 4.
I have one – seriously.
One of reasons why I married my husband was his love of books. Our favorite date is going to a bookstore. The first present he gave to me was a old Mickey Mouse book. We both have books that we haven’t read. We celebrate special occasions with new books.
I hope to find a man like that some day!
Oh they’re out there! My guy can hardly get enough to read-books, magazines,newspapers-it goes on & on at our house! ?
@Amanda You will if you wait.
I have not read them all yet but I’m working on it.
I bought these just last week.
Always read the library books 1st.
I still have the last John Grisham to read & he has a new one due in the fall.
Many books I have not read! Lol!
Not likely. I just started to read one of my orphans only to find out a book I have to read by next week has 600 pages. Well, I’ll get to my ORPHAN another time. They give us books to look forward to reading.
Title of the 600 page book please.
Yes, and I admit to being an addict, big time.
I also have a separate shelf. And I make promises to myself that I won’t buy more books until I read the ones I have. Haha. Right.
@Shel I feel your pain LOL
@Shel I’ve tried that, but it doesn’t work! 🙂
Oh many, many!!!
Too many in three different rooms, many have not been read, yet.
Yet!
Yes!
I have quite a few….have to be in the right mood for a particular type of book!
I love it when I pull one out of the pile that has been sitting there for 10 years and it’s amazing! I feel like I’ve hit the jackpot.
Yep…I have a whole closet full. It’s an addiction. There..I said it
Yup! Tons!
No, you are in very good (and numerous) company
We have close to 3,000 books in my house, so there’s a lot I haven’t read!!!
? It never hurts to have a book on the shelf you haven’t read. I like to have a “go to!”
A must for me. At least 3.
Hundreds!
Yup! So many!
Who doesn’t own books they have not read?
My fantasy for the nonfiction books that are waiting is retirement. So far these books are in no danger of being read. Sigh…
i have tond
So many!!!! Never enough time to read them all..
Twenty maybe?
Yes, lots!
Too many to count…
Benefits of our ANTILIBRARY:
https://www.msn.com/en-gb/lifestyle/home-and-garden/why-having-a-shelf-full-of-unread-books-is-actually-a-good-thing/ar-BBHmF0Q
Buying them is therapy, but there is not enough time to read them, cuz more are being written all the time! Never going to catch up!!
I start avoiding my bookstore because I can’t stop!!
I avoid the bookstore… but I have a Fabulous Public Library. So at the moment I have 20 books from the library in my house and 15 requests.
But I love having them waiting on me.
I only shop and support Independent Book Stores. I have a fantastic one that has daily author readings. Met some amazing authors, take classes and a lovely cafe.
Yes!!!!
I have said here before, it is better to have a shelf of books you haven’t read, then to need something to read and not have anything. I try to be prepared, and yes, buying books is therapy 🙂
I can’t even count how many I have – probably most of the non-picture books on my shelves – I work at a Library and a patron once came in and was worried about us being closed for a holiday “because she didn’t have any books at home” I could NOT relate ?
my son teases me about my “secret” stashes of books.
More than I can count
Piles
No, you’re not alone. If I didn’t have books waiting for me to discover them, I’d feel very poor indeed!
too many of them. I just can’t resist book sales
Obviously there are so many of us!!!
Lots!!! But they are comforting friends to have close by!
About 20…..I never catch up….as I keep adding.! …love my stack of books by the bed.
Stacks!
No..I have lots..but I’m going to read them and what a lot I have to look forward to!!!
I have often thought about becoming a speed reader. I also like to do a lot of things:)
Audiobooks on double or triple time. I follow along , i love it because you know exactly how long it will take to read it.
Yes I have had that experience too. Love it.
It’s not an OBSESSION if it’s a book. I might have a thousand or so hanging out and about….but I admit to nothing.
Lots and lots. I will never live long enough to read all of them. And then my favorite authors go and write new books. And I pass by the used book store at our local library and come home with a few more for 50 cents to a dollar. Totally addicted!
We must be related because I do the same thing ???
Library book sales are dangerous. “But honey I got all these books for $2.00!” As I walk in with a bag full of books. ?
I have yet to read about half of the books that I own. And the piles are continually being added to.
I never let Jonathan know when I buy more books. He rolls his eyes really loud. ?
lol, Brian does the same. He once mentioned how I could resell my books after I have finished with them, and I said “but… I’m never finished with them.” His eyes nearly twisted out of his head.
Over 400
A lot.
Lots
Sadly yes. I am trying to incorporate them into my To Read List.
Soooooo many!
a lot
Too many to count
About 300
Lol too many
Many
A whole bookshelf full. I don’t save the books I’ve read; I collect “next books.” ?
Uhhh, maybe. I think they’re hiding next to skeins of yarn I haven’t knitted yet. Guilty!
Oh no, you’re not alone.
About 600!
I’ve adopted many, but all are not embraced
Always keep a couple that I want to read soon.
Many
Lots and lots, most from used book stores and Goodwill. So many books… so little time…
oh honey – I have many.
Lots
so so many and I keep buying more.. new and used.
I have many, many unread books.
I love buying books, so, yes, I have hundreds that I haven’t read.
Lots!
40%
Towers of books. Loads of books. Stacks I promise I’ll get to.
On my Kindle, but not any hard copies
I own many partly read books 🙂
No you are not alonr
Tons
Yes, indeed.
I have many that I not read yet.
Probably half my library ??♀️
Too many. I love books and I believe when I am no longer independent I will have enough to read. ?
1400… (and 200 something that are read)
Oh man. A bookshelf full. Even books that recommend more books! Lol. And don’t ask about the kindle either.
Not alone at all!
I have lots of them. Even moved them from NY to Florida
I sire do.
Tons! I have boxes stuffed with them! I am determined to get through them this summer!
I have a bookshelf full
Tons.
This is me, books piled high in every room of my house, I have no room for more books
Ditto!
I don’t have any more room either, but I still keep buying them! LOL!
Last count – about 300
More than a half of my books are still unread. That doesnt stop me from buying more, though. ?
Same here! LOL! I just ordered a few this morning!
Mnh
Many ofthm
Tons!!! That’s part of the excitement and joy of having them! Just knowing you have so many adventures awaiting you!
So many
LOTS an LOTS
Probably about 30 at last count and if I don’t quit thus GAR bookclub soon, I will have to move to a bigger house! Actually, most of the recommendations have gone on my wish list, but I have bought a few since this started.
A few..
Oh, too many to actually admit the total number.
Nope I have tons – but still go to public Libary or book sales to look at or get more ?
Book sales are so addicting! I live in a college town and the college library has huge sales every year.
My explanation is that if I had read all the books I own, what would I have to read next?! And I like choices ? ?
You are not alone 🙂
Too many. There’s a Japanese word for this: Tsundoku.
I named one of my shelves on Goodreads this. LOL
Stacks.
So many. They mock me ?
Mine do too!! LOL
If there is an afterlife, I hope it has loads of libraries!
I once upset a nun because I told her I didn’t want to go to heaven. My mother finally got it out of me that I didn’t want to go because the nun had said heaven was an eternal choir and I hated to sing. My mother told me heaven was full of libraries so I changed my mind
If there is no library there, I’m not going! Or maybe you and I could start one!
The ABC LIBRARY… For Ann, Barbara, and Carolyn, of course!
@Barbara YEAH!!!!
Bunches
A ton.
Lots
I think I have more books to read than life left to live. ?
Me too!
I’ll never be able to read them all – I’m trying, though, using audiobooks as well as e-books and physical books.
It is possible to start so many books in different formats and from different sources and in different locations in your life that you cannot remember a single consecutive plot point. Turns out that is carrying ridiculous far too far, as I discovered.
Definitely
Way too many to count!
No way! I have a ton of them!
Have stacks of them!
Loads.
Hilarious, @Carolyn! I am positive heaven has the best library ever….with coffee?
And snacks with no calories!! 🙂
Your dad got involved in that one and told mom to tell me heaven was a library!
Too many. ?
It’s a sickness. 🙁
Not an illness…a passion ?
I have many?
I would get more read if I didn’t have a problem of falling asleep while reading (even if I LOVE the book). I think it is because I am so relaxed while reading that it puts me right out. Kind of hard to read all I want to though!
Oh, so many! I work in a library so I’m always surrounded by new books to read!
Big stack.
Hundreds
I would have 2 say that joining this book club has definitely increased my book collection. All of the recommendations from reliable sources – 4 a literary addict- it’s 2 hard 2 pass up! Sighhhhhhh
Hundreds, maybe thousands if you count my husband’s professional library in his office…… Too many books, too little time!
Me!! I continue to buy books however!?
Well, I have 695 on my Kindle…
A few
A lot
Many.
Me!
Oh, so me! So many books, so little time.
i’ve read most of mine. i donate them to the library when i start to get too many.
No you are not alone. Since I recently bought them and have read three other books, I have not had time yet. LOL.
These recommendations are great! I’ve read two books this week without that feeling “have to finish it before book group meets”. That’s when I know it’s a good book. Reading w:o looking at the clock or wondering whats on TV
Heaps…. I keep telling myself I should stop buying new books till I have all these read, but then I Go to Goodwill.
Yep
Always reading my way through them. Oh, a Goodwill opened near me. I never leave there without books. Once novels are read, I donate them to make room for more books.
I have stacks.
Too many….
loads and loads
Many
I remember reading someone saying that having a library of unread books reflects your continous effort for knowledge. A library should serve as a visual reminder of what you don’t know. Keep collecting those books. 🙂
Thank you!
But of course.
More than I care to admit and can’t stop. Thank goodness for Free Little Libraries along with the real libraries.
That’s my ‘in process’ plan as well..
@Kathleenellen Good luck to both of us! ?
@Kevin ,
for certain, I have been rereading some of Reynolds Price, and Robertson Davies this week..
Too many to count
millions. OK, thousands….
Ugh. A stack up to my knees. (Which sounds quite small looking around me.)
Too many!
I’ll get to them someday
Yup, I retire in 17 years, I’ll have more time to read then ?
I live with my sister with only one bedroom for my storage. That limits your purchases!!
Nope read all books I have kept at least 2x each. Have 5 shelves
My TBR List Rivals….Leonardo da Vinci’s To Do List….
Your not alone. Lol
No, I usually check something out before I buy it. I also get most of my books from the library.
Me too. I can’t afford to buy what I read and I am literally out of room to buy and store and more books!
A whole shelf
Well. I certainly don’t want to run out of something i want to read close at hand.?
Absolutely
Most of my books I have not read. I find used books far faster than I read them. There are worse things to collect! :-p
That is very true! My daughter- grandson’s – daughter in law – are all avid readers- I could always pass my books along-
Agreed!
Too many to count – need them “just in case.”
I call those book my tower of shame.?
I have tons so I can pick one up whenever i finish one
Definitely not! I meant you are definitely NOT ALONE.
I will Barb.Start a Library in heaven I mean?
I’ve decided to turn my home into a library and just live in my garage! Lol!
Lol! Brilliant! Except – well – you could probably fit a couple of bookshelves in your garage –
@April let me think about that. Yes, that will work! I could even have some hanging shelves from the ceiling, too!
Live the dream.
@Arpie ?
Yes I admit I have an impulse habit
I gather new ones for fear of running out.
Most of my books I have not read.
They do look pretty!
It’s a sickness, I tell you….I have it worse with Vinyl Records and DVDs….
I wouldn’t say worse, but I definitely have it the same! Books, DVDs, CDs, LPs, yep, I’m there with you. Ohh, almost forgot, yes, even cassettes.
I have a large collection of Vinyl! Buuuuut I’ve listened 2 everyone- rrpeatefly-
True, true….
#MeToo….that stung a little….Thank God I never threw out my vinyl….
Oh yeah, I listen on my turntable all the time. Somewhere between 2 and 3 hundred albums, and still buy more occasionally, hard to find good ones I want.
I live next to Brooklyn….Endless Possibilities….
I’m also addicted to Jack White and White Stripes….I’m a Third Man Records Vault Member….so, I get a Jackie Whiteish Vinyl Box Set every three months in the mail….
Once in a while, I’ll run out to Rhino Records, otherwise I try to find them in nature. Yard sales, thrift shops. Can’t afford those classic prices.
Have to balance it with my thriftbook account, and comic orders. ?
There’s a great used record shop in Bushwick, Brooklyn….
http://www.humanheadnyc.com/…they sell lots of great stuff cheap, plus a volume discount….
I’m on the other coast, eastern LA county.
I have stacks of books I have not read yet.
Stacks.
Sounds familiar. Seems like some of my children do the same thing also, just like Mom.
Guilty
For those of us who buy books weekly this is a silly question. We’re trying to keep up, though!
I bought about 20 books tonight at Goodwill. Paid $35 for the whole pile. Love it!
One of them was The Shack which is among the books on the List ?
And the lady ringing me up asked “are you a teacher?” I said “no, I just love books.”
Then it was his turn to blank stare at me ??♀️
i’ve lost count
Quite a few
No Vinyl or DVD Control Either….
I love it!
@Michael No book or DVD control for me either! I ordered more last night and I do not have the shelf space! Yikes!
Don’t worry, my TBR list may be long….but, my TVQ is longer than a NASA Space Launch….
@Ann….That 1-Click ordering system at Amazon will be the death of me….
@Michael Exactly!
@Ann I just ordered 3 more books and I have no idea where I’ll put them.
@Judith Same here! I need a new shelving system!
@Ann I always seem to manage to move around the books enough to fit one or two more in. It’s like a huge jigsaw puzzle.
@Judith Exactly what I have on the agenda today. Also, I donate books to my local library from time to time. That gives me a little extra room.
@Ann I do the same but I appear to bring in more books than go out. Last time I tried to cull books I thought I would never get around to reading, I managed to remove 1 single book. I guess that’s something, not a lot but something! ?
@Judith LOL! I can relate!
Want this on a T-shirt!
Many.
Several are part of my collection. Either I have not touched them, or have not completely read them. Maybe they are an investments, waiting for the right person to come along so I can gift them a volume.
No,I have many unread.
So many books..so little time..nah! I’m just gonna read??
Friends i am waiting to meet, the time just hasn’t come yet.
Stacks & bags. I recently did a mini-purge.
Yes, I sell many back to the bookstore (Powells), then get in store credit to buy more. Its a vicious circle! Or is it viscous? :-p
@Paul ! Powell’s? Portland? I had the best vacation there in 2008.
I’m in Brookline, MA. Our independent bookstore is The Booksmith. A treasure. I’ll bring my books there, then donate the remainders to our library.
Every time I am in Portland I make sure to carve out an extra day so I can wander in Powell’s (it is where I discovered Wendell Berry), have a coffee and take a deep breath among all those lovely printed pages!
@Anne I will make it a point 2 get there this summer! Thnx!
The shelf above my clothes in the closet is my mini library dedicated to books I buy from the library book sale. Need to make room for more. October is coming
Can you all relate????….
Definitely!
Ohhhhh yassssssss
I have a pile
I have boxes full.
I admit, I have a problem. With no cure in sight.
of course, this is the bibliophile in each of us.
So many books, so little time!!! Hundreds still waiting. Will have to be a book nook in heaven.
If there’s no book Nook – its not Heaven! Lol-
@April You are sooo right. Amen
I’m guilty of this as well. I buy them to read later.
