It’s one of those books which moves very slowly, and to begin with you feel like nothing much is happening, but it’s so gentle and beautiful you don’t mind. By the end however you feel like a little part of you is forever changed. It’s surreal, and soft, and a tiny bit heart breaking.

It’s beautiful, challenging, thought-provoking and moving. All of Ishiguro’s books are written like dreams.

Wasn’t a huge fan of the writing itself, but the story is amazing. It’s worth a read!

Slow moving and dreamy to start with. Immense sadness develops but the story is so beautifully written. Stays with you a long time.

It is a thought provoking kind of book. Really beautifully written. I think Ishiguro won the Nobel prize for literature last year.

@Laura Agreed. It didn’t grab me at all.

@Mark I felt the premise was great but not well done. There was so little that was actually explored. Most of the characters were so flat, I couldn’t care about them. So few glimpses of the moral issues or the emotions that arise from being forced into the situation. The rare times it happened, they were great, just too many missed opportunities

It’s a moving, extremely well-written book. It’s also sad and depressing. Quite worth reading, despite its sadness.

Beautiful, sad and then very unsettling when you see where it is headed. Definitely stays with you for a bit afterwards and makes you think.

Agree, spoiler alert, the premise made no sense, House and feed and educated (why educate?) them for 4 organs? What would that cost? And the dialogue of the clones was wooden and uninteresting.

Ashlea

Um, maybe a spoiler alert for those who haven’t read it?

I had to read it for my Cultural Anthropology class in college. Because it was an assignment I didn’t like it as much as I think I would if I picked it up again now. Very creepy.

I loved this book. The story crept up on me, which intrigued me. I also like that with this author, things don’t have a perfect happy ending. It filled me with melancholy.
