Trilogy? There’s more than a dozen books in the series. I liked them as a young teen but trying to reread them later is difficult. Probably due to slow pacing. But good enough for a try at least.
The original trilogy has a really nice arc, so you could read it, find out if it’s for you, and if not, still have gotten a complete story. That said, The Sword of Shannara is very derivative of the LotR and gets bashed a lot because of that. However, The Elfstones of Shannara is very well respected, and Wishsong is very good as well. Give them a shot.
Awesome. Stay away from the TV series though – it’s diabolical. Like really bad. Brookes stuff gets better the further in you get, my personal favourite is the heritage of Shannara tetralogy
Excellent. These are the books that got me into fantasy so much. However, DO NOT watch the TV series. It is utter trash and does no justice to the books.
I actually only decided to read the books because of the TV series. The show is awful, and the acting is horrible, but I keep watching it. (Guilty pleasure)
A little long-winded but very good

I think they are referring to the original trilogy.
Good to know, thanks!
I enjoyed them, I’m reading them now actually. There is only one trilogy in the series that I did not enjoy.

I liked them!
I liked the first trilogy. Then I started to feel like it was formula writing…
Soooooo much walking!
It’s not cutting edge fantasy, but it’s still enjoyable to read.
Let me try and find the Shannara reading order I found and wrote down.
It was ok. I got annoyed by the fact that the protagonist in each book was a child or grandchild of the previous book
Why this order?
That is Terry’s recommended first reader’s reading order.
@Melissa oh, nice ?
I’m so saving that pic if I can
@Hailey just screenshot it if you would like. The rest of the list is in the comment below this one. 🙂
This has the full order and how they are supposed to be read in timeline order

Wow, that’s 35 books. 34 of which I have not read!
Some of them. Want to finish i liked tje ones I read.
The first one was adequately entertaining
All of them yes and the tv show. And the Landover series.
The tv show is crap.
Poor mans lord of the rings
Apparently, based on the price, the sword of Shannara is rich man’s lord of the rings.
Lol that does appear to be the case ??
Last I checked, they don’t make copies of this quality for Shannara books though?
youre no fun
Really enjoy all his books

Agree on the tv series total teenage crap fest.
It really is diabolical. Couldn’t agree more.
My favorite is wishsong.
Awsome

Thanks
The sword is not great, but Elfstones is wonderful, wishsong of amazing, and every other shannara book is fantastic!
I have read them all multiple times one of my all time favorites it’s so so good!!! And the Landover series is great too
One of the first fantasy book series I read, really enjoyed it even though many people believe it was a pretty much a copy of the lord of the rings. ?
So, I think it’s safe to say that overall it’s a good series to read…
Thanks, everyone! I think I’m gonna give it a try. Likely in the recommended order from above.
