I’m reading book one now. It’s entertaining but about 200 pages too long. Could easily have been reduced as it’s a bit tedious in parts. The editor needs sacking that’s for sure.

Adam-Caleb Godby I have the first book and it’s 693 pages. It’s not really that tedious though…you should read a robert jordan book he really goes into unnecessary and obsessive detail about every inch of the world. Entertaining but long winded.

Quokka Doc Thanks for the recommendation but I’ve read every wheel of time book there is. You’re right, a large portion of them ARE tedious. I’ve been reading epic fantasy for, realistically, about 25 years and think that’s why I’m so sensitive to the good stuff and the bad. Book one is good but it shouldn’t be 693 pages. There is a fair amount of waffle and in parts it wasn’t very engaging.

Adam-Caleb Godby you wont like the second book then as the action is much less and it starts to get very political and feels like it’s building up to the 3rd book rather than reaching a climax. Still entertaining though but things get a little complicated for the characters ?

@Dee Oh dear, that doesn’t sound like my cup of tea at all. Thanks for the heads up. I think maybe I’m being a bit harsh on book one. I AM enjoying it, let me just clear that up, but I just prefer a bit more description in a 700 page book. I feel like the author has written about some pointless things that don’t appear to add weight to the story but could have used the page count to include a bit more detail about the world, the characters etc. I think then he’d be entering true epic territory. For a first novel though it’s pretty good it just isn’t WOW good like everyone is making out.
