It depends on the writer, if its new author I take my time e cause of I’m not use to they way they write. But if it is an author I read before I can read them faster
Depends on a lot of things. How much I like the book, how suspenseful it is and how badly I need to know what happens next, how tired I am, how busy I am.. I work full time and have 3 teenagers at home, so I never have an over abundance of time to read.. In most cases I read a book in a week or so (that’s with reading less than an hour a night), but sometimes if I can’t read every night it may take a few weeks to finish a book, or if i have extra time may finish sooner. Can I read a book in an afternoon? I have. Before kids. Lol
I’m all! I’m a fast reader if it’s interesting as hell. I’m slow if idk what some of the words are. I’m a normal reader if I’m reading and not realizing I’m reading and I’m like “how the heck did I get up to page 30 when I was at 11 two seconds ago lol so I reread it lmao
Yes. Well, at least I used to be fast. I would read 5-7 books a day. Now, as a mom, I typically only read 1 a day. If I get really lucky 2-3 a day and I can literally feel how slow I am now. I had a ton of testing (1-3 times a month) done back then and could read 3000-3500 words a minute with complete comprehension. I got called a freak back then, too. ??♀️
Not really.. takes me two days to read 250-350 pages.. unless it’s very light and interesting.. i broke the record while reading Perks of being a Wallflower in 7 hrs straight -ESL here
Yes I took a few of them and they were 150 to under 200. Unless I read all day and all evening I could barely finish a book in a day, so when others say they finish a few a week I figured they had to be faster readers. So I went searching for a test, just for curiosity.
Tracy Bzowy lol I know the feeling. Come across people who claim they can manage a few books a day even. Here I am thinking ‘HAVE YOU NO LIFE?’. Then I remember I’m super slow ? I’d be sick if I tried to finish a normal size book in one day, or even a few days.
Depends on the book. Some of them feel like they’re dragging and I move so slow. But then there are other times I’ve gone through half a book in only an hour or so and didn’t realize it.
@Darshnik Yes, it does! But I read English faster than my native language Finnish ? And if I read every other in English and then in Finnish, the first chapters are always much slower ?
@Maria because most content on internet is served in English, primarily. So, we don’t have much of an option. I can read in Hindi, English, and French. But I take time in ’em all equally. And thirdly, all major universities run their courses in English, so gotta be atleast in range of that, to clear such sorta exams stuff. I bet, Finnish would be a harder language than English, for your faster* comprehending skills.??
I’m not actually sure what I am….what constitutes fast, average or slow? I don’t have a lot of time to read but if I read 1 hour per night I can read a 370 page book in two weeks
My partner can read books in a day, he has read so many books this last year I can’t even begin to keep up with him. I’m so slow, plus I need a book to grip me from the beginning.
Ok. Now i get it, but i didn’t mean it like that. I’m just saying that 1Q84 is around 1800 pages and i finished it in 7 days so there goes my reading pace.
Hubby calls me the sexiest nerd he knows ??♀️??♀️??♀️??♀️he teases me and calls me dork too but he buys me books and goes To the library to pick up my holds. So I’m good with it. Lol.
@Keshia i am a good reader but not a fast one because English is not my first language and sometimes i have to go back to the dictionary to check the meaning ?
I didn’t have a clue, I can read a 350 page novel in a couple of days if I can sit still long enough but usually takes 3-5 days if working. I’ve got no desire to read any quicker as for me it is about enjoying the book and not a race
I think the more you read the faster you get. When I was in graduate school I remember thinking if people don’t read fast they will never make it with the amount of of reading that is required.
I am. A college lecturer once didn’t believe me. To test it he went and found a book we’d never studied from, picked a chapter, I read it and then he asked me random questions about it. He was rather shocked!
Now, I’m disabled and read to distract myself from pain. On days where I’m stuck in bed/ on the sofa, I can average 3-4 books a day, unless they’re really large book, and then I can do 2 and start a 3rd
A week before college started, I took a speed-reading course at the local library. Helped me a LOT in college. Of course, I lost the ability since I don’t use it much.
Im probably the slowest reader in this group. To me it’s not how fast you read or how many books you’ve read. Reading is a pure enjoyment I just love to do. ?
I am a fast reader but I don’t think that is important at all. The main thing about reading – at whatever speed – is the joy and delight you get from reading and visiting other worlds without leaving your sofa.
No, I’m a fairly slow reader however if its a book that I am *really* enjoying, I’ve been known to *devour* a 450+ page book in a few days, which is “fast reading” for me.
I’m a fast reader too, it once drove someone crazy that he blocked me , thinking I never read his story ??? and as for my Mine , I wasn’t troubling him with the time I spent in reading and texting him at the same time ?
Yep! ??♀️
I’m a very slow reader. But it’s getting better
Depends what on what I’m reading
If I’m really into the book and I’m able to have silence with no kid interruptions, I can read a book in one afternoon
If I have no interruptions…yes…but as such is life…I no longer have uninterrupted reading time. So…now may take me a few day to finish a book.
Yes!
I used to read very fast, but in my later years I have taken to slower reading because I get more out of it that way.
Nope. Turtle reader here.
I am just weird in General, It took less than me reading fast for my husband to think I was any sort of freak lol
Speedy Reader here!! I devour books <3
Yes- I read very fast. I go through 2-4 books a week.
It depends on the writer, if its new author I take my time e cause of I’m not use to they way they write. But if it is an author I read before I can read them faster
With you explanation,I totally do this too.
Very fast reader here. I average an hour and a half to read a standard-length novel.
Yep
I am not but my wife has been known to finish a book while I’m meandering around the book store.
It depends on the book.
Depends on a lot of things. How much I like the book, how suspenseful it is and how badly I need to know what happens next, how tired I am, how busy I am.. Can I read a book in an afternoon? I have. Before kids. Lol
Yes. I try to slow myself down but cant
I read exceptionally fast.
Yes
I don’t consider myself to be a fast reader, but I read slightly above average speed apparently.
yes, I’m a fast reader as well!
I’ve tried reading slow, and I just can’t lol
Yes
Nope
Nope, well I guess it depends on the material.
My hubby just said something like that to me this week! Lol
Yes!
Yes…
He’s probably right.
I don’t think so, mainly because focusing for me is an issue
Yup! 🙂
Yes
Yes
Yes.
I am
I’m a slow reader while my boyfriend is a fast reader; it absolutely boggles my mind how much he reads in an hour’s time. ?
Yesss
Yes
Standard 350/400 page novel takes me 2 hours I’m a fast reader. The important part is did you retain 😉
Yes
Yes I’m a fast reader too
only if it’s something i’m really into
Yes. Well, at least I used to be fast. I would read 5-7 books a day. Now, as a mom, I typically only read 1 a day. If I get really lucky 2-3 a day and I can literally feel how slow I am now. No and it drives me crazy
It depends on how interested I am in the book.
I read slow
I absorb every word
I’m not…not one bit.
I was very excited about hitting 23 books so far this year. That’s not much.
Sometimes!
Not really..
takes me two days to read 250-350 pages..
unless it’s very light and interesting..
i broke the record while reading Perks of being a Wallflower in 7 hrs straight
-ESL here
I read way too fast for my own good. About to outread my small town library lol.
Corbyn: Keep up your anti-Semitism. We need your Jews to populate the West Bank.
Wut?
Very slow 🙁
The more I like the book, the faster I read ? A Court of Wings and Ruin took me 2 days x
i read so fast most dont belive me or are shocked as hell lols
Pretty slow. I manage about 10k words an hour.
Yes. I can read 1-2 books a day.
I’m a slow reader, despite being an avid reader my whole life. I recently took an online speed reading test and I wasn’t above average.
I took one of those. Only managed about 150 words per minute ?
Yes I took a few of them and they were 150 to under 200. Unless I read all day and all evening I could barely finish a book in a day, so when others say they finish a few a week I figured they had to be faster readers. So I went searching for a test, just for curiosity.

I’m gonna take a test lol
Yes. I took a speed reading course my first year at university and I’ve been able to read faster ever since with a pretty good grasp of the content.
my reading pace is directly proportional to the story. If I’m really into it, I can read it fast. ?
Yes, very fast
Not at all.
Compared to my husband? Absolutely! But I have friends who are even faster…
I am… My friends think I’m crazy
I’m very fast
Depends on the book. Some of them feel like they’re dragging and I move so slow. But then there are other times I’ve gone through half a book in only an hour or so and didn’t realize it.
It usually takes me 3 weeks to a month to read a book…cause life happens.
I wish. I’m very slow, it’s almost embarrassing lol ??
Oh gosh, thank you ?? so are you!! ??
☺️☺️☺️☺️
I think I’m average…. But I have so much free time, that I can read fast because of that ?
@Maria reading books in different languages also results in timmings.??
@Darshnik Yes, it does! But I read English faster than my native language Finnish ? And if I read every other in English and then in Finnish, the first chapters are always much slower ?
@Maria because most content on internet is served in English, primarily. So, we don’t have much of an option. I can read in Hindi, English, and French. But I take time in ’em all equally. I bet, Finnish would be a harder language than English, for your faster* comprehending skills.??
Very slow. I complete 300-400 pages, by almost a month. I like to read slow.
Yes
Nope
On kindle yes
Me too
I’m not actually sure what I am….what constitutes fast, average or slow? I don’t have a lot of time to read but if I read 1 hour per night I can read a 370 page book in two weeks
I could read a 370 page book in a few hours but I’m crazy fast i think.
Yep im fast. After having my son im slower thogh simply bc i dont have as much free time to read and im tired. I miss reading for hours a day haha
I was but I found I enjoy a book more if I take my time
Yep ?
My partner can read books in a day, he has read so many books this last year I can’t even begin to keep up with him. I’m so slow, plus I need a book to grip me from the beginning.
Depends on the book. If it’s good I can read it in a day or 2. If it’s an ehhh ok book about a week or 2. If I don’t like it about a month
Definitely a sloth reader
I finished 1Q84 in 7 days figure it out yourself
@Piyush rude
@Keshia excuse me ?
How is it rude ?
@Piyush “figure it out yourself”…
Ok. Now i get it, but i didn’t mean it like that. I’m just saying that 1Q84 is around 1800 pages and i finished it in 7 days so there goes my reading pace.
Didn’t mean to piss anyone off
No worries
My family feel the same!
The wife is. She can devour a 300 page book in a couple of hours
Hubby calls me the sexiest nerd he knows ??♀️??♀️??♀️??♀️he teases me and calls me dork too but he buys me books and goes
To the library to pick up my holds. So I’m good with it. Lol.
No cuz I’m not native
@Samra huh?
I average 800 words a minute
You are a speed reader then I like to digest a good book get rid of one’s I don’t like
I read 500 pages/day if the book is brilliantly written.
Fast reader
Yes
Yup
I am. I’ve read a 300+ page book in about 8 hours, if I can read non-stop. In a day if there are distractions.
Yes. My husband says I don’t read books, I devour them.
Mine says the same
Yes I am!
Depends on the book for me
I am freakishly slow
How would you define fast?
Is anyone else seeing comments that are a little rude or am I just reading things wrong?…?
I think the more you read the faster you get. When I was in graduate school I remember thinking if people don’t read fast they will never make it with the amount of of reading that is required.
I wish I was
Yep, none of my family can understand how I can read that fast and retain everything but I do! I don’t understand how they can read so slow lol!
Yes. I consider myself almost a speed reader.
No
Yes. Sometimes, my husband will hover and read whatever page I’m on and then get mad because I’ve turned the page and he wasn’t done
No i am a slow reader
No but my kids are. They are 12 and they are freaky fast readers. They passed me up long ago.

Im probably the slowest reader in this group. To me it’s not how fast you read or how many books you’ve read. Reading is a pure enjoyment I just love to do. ?
Totally with you on this.
I agree!!
Yes
I am a slow reader.
I am lol
I am a slow reader!
Just finished 3 books in 6 days.
Reading them simultaneously
Yes
I’m more of a slow reader.
So is my oldest girl. When she was 15 she read the “Deathly Hallows” I think, the thickest one, she read it in one afternoon.
Slow reader
I don’t know if I’m fast or slow. I just read.
Yes, 2-5 books a week usually depending on schedule, mood, etc.
Yes my family still teases me about getting Stephen King’s Needful Things on Christmas morning and finishing it the same day.?
Depends, but mostly I like to take my time and really enjoy the story.
Took a course in speed reading and I go thru books a lot.?
I read how I read
yes i am and can usually read a 250 page book per day
I am a fast reader but I don’t think that is important at all. The main thing about reading – at whatever speed – is the joy and delight you get from reading and visiting other worlds without leaving your sofa.
Nope…quite the opposite. I am a slow ? reader.
Yes, one 300 – 400 page book a day, if I feel like it.
Waaaay too fast. If I want and I’m not busy I can power through 3 or 4 in a day.
I use to read so fast, that I would see a movie in my minds eye.
Fast reader unless I’m doing annotations or taking notes. But books for pleasure- oh yes!
No, I’m a fairly slow reader however if its a book that I am *really* enjoying, I’ve been known to *devour* a 450+ page book in a few days, which is “fast reading” for me.
Typically, 75ish pages/day is a GOOD day for me.
About a hundred to 150 Pages an hour
Would you say 3 books a week is fast??
PS – i don’t tell my hubby how many books i read a week!
I read on average of 4 book ( 450+) a week. But I dont watch TV so this would replace the long binge hours
Yes, but it is just how I read.
I’m a fast reader too, it once drove someone crazy that he blocked me , thinking I never read his story ???
and as for my Mine , I wasn’t troubling him with the time I spent in reading and texting him at the same time ?
I read fast as well can do couple books a day if I get peace
I think the more you read, the faster you read.
Depends on material.
