I need a super captivating audiobook suggestion please!
Hi! I need a super captivating audiobook suggestion please!
Hubby and I are flying internationally with the baby overnight and I envision myself holding the baby the entire time and unable to sleep (while the hubby sleeps soundly right next to me) grrr lol? ??
Ideally, I need a book that isn’t super popular right now because I don’t have time to be wait listed at the library. Not picky ab genre as long as it’s fiction TIA! ??
I personally like the early James Patterson books to listen to-Kiss the Girls, Aling Came a Spider, Roses are Red.
The Talisman or Blood and Smoke by Stephen King.
I’ve tried to read 3 King books and I can’t get past more than a quarter of the book, am I broken?! Haha
@Abby you’re not broken…. can’t stand his books lol. I’ve tried to see the appeal, just can’t
I really want to, but I can’t get into them!
Time Traveler’s Wife. Memoirs of a Geisha
Great suggestions. 7 husbands for Evelyn Hugo…it’s on the newer side, but has been out for a little while.
I’ve read these, loved!
Not in any way similar, but for pure entertainment, there is a YA book called Boom (by Mark Haddon) that is the funniest narration I’ve ever heard. The story is only so-so, but the narration is so good that I recommend it to everyone who needs some humor in their lives!
Thanks, I like YA
Louise Penny Mysteries. Start with the first Still Life. The narrator is awesome!
Zorro by Isabel Allende
Magic Stings of Frankie Presto by Mitch Albom
Library doesn’t carry the audio version ?
I’m going to Im you
I agree with the Louise Penny suggestions. Start with # 1
Wait list for the first Louise Penny book ? keep the suggestions coming!
Try hoopla for still life. Download app. Great for free quick audiobooks
The Invention Of Wings – Kidd
Read it, liked it
@Abby
It’s great as an audiobook Listening to the girls tell the story in “their” voices was great.
Burial rites by Hannah Kent
The Passage by Justin Cronin, super long book, read by Scott Brick. Been out a few years so should be available.
This had a hold but I’m next in line, i leave next friday so fingers crossed!
Seconded.
Some Sing, Some Cry – superb audiobook and so musical! Some Sing, Some Cry: A Novel https://www.amazon.com/dp/031219899X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_2eaiAbM8GQT6S
And it’s older so may be in your library.
My husband loved listening to the Outlander series. He was most impressed by the reader.
I really wanted to like this book, I couldn’t get into it, I tried reading and listening ?
Station Eleven good narration takes you to another place.
It’s available at my Library! Yay! Downloading now. I still hope to have one other option for the plane ride home, thanks!
Oh, this is an awesome one!
I liked that one a lot! Just finished it.
Anything by Ruta Sepetys.
Or lighthearted. Mary Kay Andrews has several.
I understand the necessity for older/not current book requests. Long wait lines and I need something NOW!
Anything you can pick up by Jodi Picoult. And actually the baby may surprise you and sleep as much as your husband! Do you have a bulkhead seat so you can get a crib?
No, she weighs too much for the bassinet, according to AA rules, ugh!! We have two seats by themselves in the back, I have a travel bassinet that I plan to lay on the tray tables, I’m not a good plane sleeper anyways. Pray for us ha ha!!
good luck!
Ask your husband to split the child responsibilities.
^ seconded. so far, he’s contributed far less (babymaking is far more fun for guys, not to mention less physically demanding). he’s up. he’ll respect and appreciate you more, not less, as a result. 🙂 and you’ll both get a chance to rest a little.
Oh he is definitely helping, I’m not that kind of woman haha!!! I just can’t sleep on planes.
Maisie Dobbs series: love the audio version! Great reader. Start with the first one.
Mary Kaye Andrews Blue Christmas!
Ohh bonus points to Cindy for a Christmas rec. !! Thanks! ☃
@Abby you are very welcome! It’s a light, funny read!
Any of Sue Grafton’s alphabet murder series.
The Help by Stockett, Flight Behavior by Kingsolver, Oryx and Crake by Atwood, Missing, Presumed by Steiner (I think), Kate Atkinson’s Life After Life or her mysteries, those are fab.
I think a book like Travels with Charlie by Steinbeck. It’s wonderful and can be put down picked up with ease.
The Life of Pi was narrated perfectly!
All the Pretty Horses. Narrated by Brad Pitt
Any book by Mary Kubica;)
If you’re okay with comedic sci-fi, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is fantastic!
Cutting for Stone by Abraham Vergese
Moonflower Vine by Jetta Carleton
The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy
I loved Cutting for Stone…but not exactly light.
I don’t see where the poster asked for the book to be light?
I have audible and have purchased the first 26 nooks of the in death series. I can send you one if you like.
Outlander! Long enough to get you there and back!
Room by Emma Donaghue. Super gripping, and with different voices for the different characters, it really comes to life.
I’ve read it, really liked it!
The Art of Racing in the Rain…very well narrated I thought.
Loved it, tears!
If you like Harry Potter, you would probably really enjoy the full-cast version of The Graveyard Book. I also really liked listening to, The Husband’s Secret, and Gone Girl.
Before and After
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, narrated by Wil Wheaton
I liked the premise of this one but when it started to be about there being no God, I abandoned it.
Ah. Well, I’m atheist so I was untroubled.
Makes sense, to each their own
A Phillipa Gregory
Check for books by Philip Pullman. I have a couple of his trilogies and they are most excellent — which is why I kept them rather than donating them. They are worth listening to repeatedly.
The Nightingale
Loved it!
Wolf Hall and Bring up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel. Totally absorbing and entertaining with far more dark humor than I would have expected. I suffered from withdrawal when I finished the audiobooks.
Thanks!
The Chilbury Ladies Choir is an awesome audiobook. And there is even a little singing in it.
Long wait but it’s on my tbr
Miss Julia series or the Lady’s Number 1 Detective Agency. Narrators are awesome and the stories are so entertaining.
Marriage of Opposites by Alice Hoffman.
It has a hold ?
Across the nightingale Floor (first book on Tales of the Otori series). Listened to it twice.
Circling the Sun or the Secret Wife
Circling the Sun is an awesome book.
Lonesome Dove is wonderful, Will Patton is the narrator, so good. One of my favorites. Girl Waits With Gun, historical fiction, series of three, didn’t have to wait for first two from library. Do you use Overdrive?
