I LOVED this book! My sister (who is a wound care nurse)did too. I actually just recommended it to my dad yesterday because he tried to pick a fake fight over funeral practices (and I shocked him by telling him I wanted to be composted). Actually, I’d be fine with one of those tree growing urns.
@Amber my husband has faced death twice in the last 11years. This has been on our minds since and we aren’t afraid to talk about death or what comes after, either. There’s a good book, which I cannot recall the title of now, that goes State by State on your rights to do as you please for your burial. My hubby’s like “use the tractor, put me up in the field!”. Lol. I will try to look up what the title is. I do think the more we demystify death and normalize what is essentially the last part of life, the less traumatic it becomes.
Amber, Ask her if she knows how to fenestrate xeroform to fit a wound and pack pocketed wounds? Stuff I know how to do but shouldn’t have to. #trialbyfire #myblinkinhubby
@Amber exactly what he survived! Entire left leg in ‘08. Still chat with our Woundcare nurses, Pam &Susie-who had a one-eyed cat. They help us keep it light, lol! We pass their office on way to Ortho floor, where he is at this very minute. Infection in perm replacement knee. Trying to save leg again.
I was shocked by how much I ADORED that book! I kept reading snippets aloud to my husband on a road trip. Who knew that subject matter could spawn so much humor? She’s a great writer.
Not at all. Are you into books on what happens with the dead? I have some recommendations for you if you do. “Grave Matters” is AMAZING . Caitlin Doughty has a couple great books, but most importantly she has a vlog on YouTube called “Ask A Mortician” and there is a podcast as well. That is called “Death in the Afternoon”
Loved it! I dissected a cadaver as an undergrad and was FASCINATED by it. I loved learning about other things that cadavers can be used for in this book!
If you’re weird, so am I. That was a great book. Mary Roach, right? I’ve read something else of hers that I liked but can’t remember off the top of my head.
Mary Roach is the super best ever for non-fiction!!! We read this one in my non-fiction book group at the library and everyone LOVED it. And our group leader got into the spirit of it and made everyone a toe tag book mark. The “body” info was dead authors! 🙂
Not at all!! I loved that one by Mary Roach. Her work is great!
No! I liked it too!
It was great!
Loved this one!

I agree. This book makes me rethink my burial plans!
@Amber me too! I’m actually donating my body to science but that tree thing is the only other option I’d consider.

@Maureen I completely agree.

This is the book. Eye opening!
@Maureen My sister and one of my BFs are doing this. We have normalized this conversation.
@Maureen Oooo! My “safe word” with sis is “necrotizing fasciitis”. This question reaches beyond that!

No, it’s an informative, interesting, enjoyable book. It does have some parts that might turn some people off, but those are mostly scientific.

‘Grunt’ is also fascinating!
