Are there any good books about the holocaust? Not like boy in the striped pjs…but like biographies or history type books

Stones from the River.. about a girl who was born a dwarf being raised by her father. He runs the library out of their home in a village in Germany..lots of town gossip.. I loved it, takes place before and during WW2
Schindler’s Ark is semi-historical (the book behind the movie Schindler’s List). As for non fiction, I’m sure there are memoirs.
The Nazi Officer’s Wife by Edith Hahn Beer
The Green Sweater (sp).
There’s a book, it’s for middle schoolers, but I found it very intriguing, about a Nazi Youth who thought for himself and didn’t fall for the Nazi propaganda. It based on a true story and the title is “The Boy Who Dared.”
Edit: Apparently the author also wrote a non-fiction children’s book called “Hitler Youth: Growing up in Hitler’s Shadow”
“The Hiding Place” by Corrie Ten Boom
It’s an autobiography about two sisters and their father who got caught hiding and smuggling Jews
Death Dealer by Rudolph Hoss
This is about a holocaust survivor’s journey back to his faith. Great read!
I’ve got one titled ‘The Fugu Plan’ about the Japanese government’s plan to offer sanctuary to Jews. Haven’t read it yet, though.
Night
I second this!!! It’s really good!
The deaths head chess club is good. Not 100% set in the camps bc it jumps between during and after the war but a good half of it takes place there. It’s a great read
Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin is a good non-fiction read for getting a good overview of what was going on in the Eastern Front.
The Sunflower
By Simon Wiesenthal
The Diary of Anne Frank; The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich
Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly.
Hitler’s Willing Executioners-Goldhagen
Kristallnacht-Martin Gilbert
The Righteous-Martin Gilbert
Night-Elie Wiesel
Memoirs-Elie Wiesel
Listened to Sir Martin Gilbert years ago on BookTV. He spoke on his book, The Righteous. It was fascinating. Maybe there’s a video of it available on YouTube.

Was God on vacation?: A WWII autobiography by Jack Van Der Geest. Read it in class during middle school and it stuck with me.
Following this ❤️❤️ just read the book thief and now on to all the light we cannot see and I’m on a kick!
I was also going to suggest this one.
@Kennedy one of my faves
The tattooist of Auschwitz is a great novel ??
The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult
Night -Eli Wiesel. All but my life- Garda Weismann Klein.
The tattooist of Auschwitz….night
Book thief. It’s a historical fiction
Following 🙂 getting some great tbr
I would also recommend Night by Elie Wiesel.
This novel is great❣️❣️
This is an amazing book …however, I would suggest the whole trilogy
The entire trilogy is great — however, as I understand it, only Night is autobiographical, while the other two are fiction. Night, to me, was all the more powerful and horrific as it’s his own factual account.
My grandson just returned from Germany. He visited Auschwitz .
Primo Levy an Italian Jewish Holocaust memoir
This is my list of favourites … mostly historical fiction: https://www.literarytype.com.au/single-post/10-Inspiring-WW2-Books
I don’t know if this is what you’re after on any level, but Arthur Hertzberg and Michael Shermer wrote a great work of critical historiography called ‘Denying History’. It’s a brilliant deconstruction, illustrating the fallaciousness of Holocaust Denialism.
I’m in the same reading mode… it started with lilac girls, then I read we were the lucky ones, then, salt of the sea, boy in the striped pajamas, and the nightingale and Sarah’s key… now onto the librarian of Auschwitz
Check with a Rabia at a Jewish Temple, I am sure they can suggest something to your interest.
Yes loads. Anne Franks Diary & The man who broke into Auschwitz: The Extraordinary True Story. Both very good books
Yes loads. Anne Franks Diary & The man who broke into Auschwitz: The Extraordinary True Story. Both very good books
Doctors From Hell
There is an incredible play called Bent it’s about LGBT* holocaust victims. Shattering. Also Maus, which is a graphic novel but I found it an incredible read, especially for how mult-generational the effects were.
I also had the privilege of meeting a woman, who survived. (Trigger warning for sadness and violence) She was German, but her brother was mentally handicapped in some way. Her whole family went into hiding to protect him, but they were discovered and ended up in a camp. She was six and the only survivor of her family, but the soldiers beat her badly enough to break both her legs and hips, but she had spent her life traveling and singing and sharing her families story. I was only a kid when I met her but her face and voice is burned o to my memory. She was an incredible woman.
In Harm’s Way
Yellow Star. True account of the Holocaust.
The Silver Sword
The Hiding Place
If this is a man by primo levi
I am Jewish. My grans friend was the president of Israel Golda Meir. My great gran grew up with her. Love & Hugs Michelle XxX
Ann Frank’s book entitled Diary of a Young Girl. She lived in Denmark during Nazi occupation and lived underground protected by a Christian family until discovered and sent to concentration camp, never to be heard from again, she kept a diary of her life in hiding. Also, might want to look up the author Martin Gilbert. He has written many books on Holocaust and by many is considered the leading historian of the event as well as the early years of the state of Israel. .
If this is a man is great
Schindler ‘s List by Thomas Kenealy, Odette ( a Resistance Operative) by Gerard Tickel and White Mouse ( about another Resistance op Nancy Wake) .
Maus by art Spiegelman
The Holocaust by Laurence Rees is supposed to cover every aspect. I just bought it.

The Pianist by Wladyslaw szpilman
The Nazi Officers Wife by Edith Hahn Beer
Night by Elie Wiesel
The hiding place by Corrie Ten Boom

Schindler’s List
The Tattooist of Auschwitz

the tattooist of auschwitz (which is by far the most incredible and moving book I’ve ever read. I recommend it and it is a true story)
Author Leon Uris
You could check out “Hitler, My Neighbor”# by Edgar Feuchtwanger and perhaps some of the books by James Holland. 🙂
Millions of souls
The Nightingale
I’m reading The Room on Rue Amelie by Kristin Harmel-Paris during the Nazi occupation.-Beneath a Scarlet Sky-All the Light we Cannot See by Anthony Doerr-a father with a blind daughter also in Paris during the occupation.—just to name a few I have loved about WW2
Night
Beneath a Scarlett Sky by Mark Sullivan…it’s a true story about a young Italian boy and his experiences during the Nazi occupation in Italy during WWII…it’s a great read.
Born Survivors by Wendy Holden- true story about 3 women who were pregnant while in concentration camps.
Escape from Sobibór….true story. I read it so many years ago when I met the son of two of the concentration camp escapees. It is also a movie.
Herman Wouk’s Winds of War and War and Remembrance are fictional tales of that time in history. Excellent. These novels don’t focus totally on the Holocaust but on the entire era. Poignant and painful at times. Sophie’s Choice is a gut wrenching account of one woman’s journey through the camps. Playing for Time — about musicians who survived because they played their instruments to entertain the officers. QB7 by Leon Uris — published in 1970 — later became one of the first mini series on television — another gut wrenching novel.
Man’s Search for Meaning, by Viktor Frankl ( not sure I spelled his name correctly
“Night” by Elie (im not going to try and butcher his last name) but if you type that into google it’ll give you the full name for sure
I think it is Ellie Wiesel. In my opinion this is THE book on the Holocaust.

A Train in Winter – Caroline Moorehead
Such Good Girls – R.D. Rosen
Escape from Sobibor – Richard Rasheed
My Train to Freedom – Ivan BCker
Helga’s Diary – Helga Weiss

‘The Rise and Fall if the Third Reich’ by Airie Neave is an amazing book about the whole period; looking into the family background of Hitler, German economics and society, through to the Nuremberg Trials … in which Airie Neave acted as a lawyer (I may be wrong).
It used to be a study text for undergraduates and senior students, but it’s well written and a good read.
Schindler’s List
Elie Wiesel…he has several.
Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly is based on true story. Wonderful book.
The Orphan Train??
Night
And the rest of course, Night Dawn Day
@Madison, yes, those ones and Maus
I could name a fiction one about what it was like for a Jew in the time of Nazis….The Book Thief
Great book!
The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boon
Alone in Berlin. It isn’t about the holocaust it’s more about what Berlin was like under the Nazis in the war.
Children To a Degree, Night, The Hiding Place, Four Perfect Pebbles, Number the Stars, The Devils Arithmetic, The Book Theif…….
If you’re interested in historical investigative journalism I would highly recommend IBM and the Holocaust. Same author as War Against the Weak.
Read the descriptions. I couldn’t believe I had no idea that this even happened on US soil. Basically solidified that eugenics began here. I prefer reading fiction and novels but both of these books while long, changed my life. As. Jew, I’ve read my fair share of Holocaust books, but these were different.
i think i still have a few for sale, i just sold a bunch
The book thief, The Devils Arithmetic
The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom, Four Perfect Pebbles by Lila Perl and Marion Blumenthal Lazan, Heroes of the Holocaust: True Stories of Rescues by Teens by Allan Zullo and Mara Bovsun
“Until We Meet Again” by Meyer Korenblit is my all time favorite. It’s a memoir about his parents during the Holocaust.
The Hiding Place
The Zookeeper’s Wife
maus is a graphic novel, but it’s amazing, one of best things I’ve read
Did you want fiction or nonfiction
guys pay attention she said nonfiction not fiction ?
My father in law wrote a book about his experiences as a Holocaust survivor, it’s called Ragdolls by Henry Golde.
