@JM, my mother still has the urge to cover my eyes when sex scenes come up on shows. I’m 30. We were watching outlander together and when we got to the wedding episode I refused to watch with her.
Let me preface by saying I love historical fiction, and love long books. I hated Outlander. The writing was boring, and at times, I felt like it was pulling teeth to read it.
All the historical fiction that I read already has the MC in that time period, so there is no time traveling. I love all of Philippa Gregory books (the white princess TV series was based off her books.) I also like Alison Weir.
Love them. If u dont wanta read sex lol..then they are not for u. But..they are not erotica….they have lots of history. Author did an amazing job researching.
Full disclosure; I haven’t read them. But I love Scotland and was interested. I researched and read reviews and one major complaint I kept seeing is there is a lot of abuse. Even between the two MC’s.
They are AMAZING. Not an easy read. I felt like I was getting a history lesson as I read, and I loved that! There is aLOT of sex, but it’s not trashy at all. The Starz TV series is EPIC.
I love Outlander. I love the writing style . The descriptions make me feel as though I am right there in the story . I can understand others that would say it is slow and drags on but for me it works . They are my absolute favorite books . I would say try a few chapters to see how you feel before you commit. It took me many months to read the whole series. The history is very well researched and you feel as though you grow so much with the characters as the books progress.
I really like this series and the writing. Some oarts parts are a little too graphic though , for example the Rape in the first book seemed to never end!
600pgs into first one right now! First 2 chapters didnt really catch my attention like I’d hoped but continued on and it does not disappoint. Jamie is my current book crush ❤
I think they’re great! Sexy, put not too graphic, great stories rooted in history. I have only read the first 3 in the series, definitely enjoyed them!
I enjoyed the first 3 but got bored halfway thru the 4th book. I thought they could have been cut down by several hundred pages each then they would have been enjoyable! Too much filler.
The TV show is Extremely graphic for both sex and violence. The sex is one camera angle Away from porn. And it goes on and on. I had to stop watching on the living room TV because I was so embarrassed when my Teen-age daughters would walk through the living room. The violence is graphic as well. Both of these elements are presented during Jaimie’s torture & rape by a male. So, yeah, it’s pretty intense.
I also love historical fiction but I got tired of this series quickly. I thought the sex was overdone, and if I had to read about “his seed” one more time I would have screamed.
It can be graphic at times but not near as bad as other things I’ve read. The bigger issue for me is how incredibly slow it is. I tried to read the books before each season of the show. By book two, I abandoned that idea.
I love the series but let’s put it this way, I would never listen to the audio with my mother.
So it is like Games of Thrones graphic level? I have watched some of Games of Thrones but had to stop Because it was too graphic
No not anywhere near GoT graphic
I listened to the audiobook with my mother.

What other historical fiction can you recommend? I would love to read a historical fiction book that has some time travelling

I am a strange person who does not mind sex scenes as long I do not have to watch them in a movie

One of my favorite series. The first one has more sex than the rest but there is story behind the sex. It’s not a pointless bodice ripper book.

They are amazingly good. Its got sex, battle, and medical ailments.

I hate romance but Outlander is so steeped in well researched history that I didn’t mind the romance parts.

Pretty graphic. My mom called it ‘borderline pornography’ ?
