Yes !!!! It is a commitment but so worth it . I am on the last one now ( until the new one comes out ) gonna be so sad when I am done . She is an amazing writer . Makes you feel like you are right there with the characters and the history is so well researched .
It is a fair-to-middlin’ read. The visuals are rich, but the story drags while the historical details, especially those set in the colonial south and those involving Native Americans, can get a bit muddled. But, my bar for historical accuracy in details is extremely high. If you can keep repeating to yourself “this only fiction and not based in fact”, you’ll be fine. Just my opinion. I am currently reading them, so this isn’t a bashing.
So I started the series a whole back I guess three years ago I’m reading a book a year. I’m on the third book, at first I was on the fence but I love it. I watched the first three seasons of the tv series and loved it. I think that what really helped me get into it, I can now put faces to people in the book and see the story unfold better.
I haven’t had time to read any of them yet, but fully intend to. Just love the tv series, and intend to do an Outlander tour in the future. A great story.
Give it a try. Always consider to give anything a chance. I personally didn’t like it. The writing was good, but the subject matter and some of the characters annoyed me
I had to stop sometimes and read something else. There were some parts that I thought were slow but then it got really good again. The first book was my favorite.
While I was in Scotland we met people from Germany on an Outlander tour, and Diana Galbadon was at the 2009 Gatheringof the Clans which was a calling of all people of Scottish decent to return to Scotland. She has a world wide following.
I didn’t think so either. A publisher sent me a paperback of the first book. I had it on my book shelf for years. Then when the TV show was coming out, I decided to read it..HOOKED. Now I go to 2 Outlander themed events a year and have memorabilia in my room.
When I first heard about them and they were labeled as “Historical Fiction”, that completely turned me off to it. I am not a big history buff. But when a friend of mine that has very similar taste in books highly recommended it, I tried the TV show first and was hooked. Then I started reading the books.
I started the series a couple of months back and the tv series as well. I couldn’t finish the first book, I just found it tedious. But now I can’t bring myself to watch the tv series either. I just found the book disappointing
I loved the first four books. When I started reading them they weren’t all out and you had to wait a year or two for the next one. Hopefully I’ll get back to them
I lived in the 1700 when reading the books-had to get the next one as I finished each book-read straight through-than waited for book 8 and now book nine. At 75 I hope I live long enough to get to book 10.
Short answer, no. ??

I adore the books. The show not so much.
You will get hooked
Yes!!!!! ❤️❤️
Enjoyed the first two…then after the third (which I didn’t like) I just didn’t want to invest the time in the chunky books.
Yes!, but pace yourself. I only read two a year. My friend read them all at once and she said it can get overwhelming.
I think I’m going to at least read the first book and see what it’s all about!
@Sandra oh hello fellow pork chop
I liked it.
I never got into them, neither the books nor the series. It‘s too tacky for me.
Tacky… hhhmmm how so?

I just started the series- finished the first book and loved it. So many women loved it, I figured I’d give it a try
Kinda like a high brow time traveling bodice ripper?
pretty much. I try not to think if it as formulaic and just enjoy the ride. ‘Cause who doesn’t love Jamie?
@Gwenn who doesn’t like a well toned torso and legs in a kilt!?
@Theresa sounds bonny to me!
Lovvvveeee itttttttt!!!
Never started it. It just seems so overwhelming and I don’t think it’s my type of reading.

I started the series a couple of months back and the tv series as well. I couldn’t finish the first book, I just found it tedious. But now I can’t bring myself to watch the tv series either.

@Shiery
On my tbr pile xx
The books are lengthy but I feel they’re worth it. You could also watch the TV series after you’ve completed each book.
Without a doubt!! Be prepared – it is an addiction and there is no known cure!
