Agatha Christie is still stellar. SOmeone is always murdered in her books. Try The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, one of my faves for truly unexpected endings.

I’m not a big mystery reader, but I did love the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters.
James Pattersons The Women’s Murder Club series is my absolute favorite!!!
Kerry Greenwood’s series: Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. I think there is around 25 books so far.
Also the Dody McClelland (main character) series. 5 books in the series by an Australian author (can’t think of her name)

You might really like Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache series. She is a truly gifted writer and the mysteries are top notch.
