A friend asked me what motivates me to read. I want to ask you guys the same. So.. Yea :-) What motivates you??

What motivates you??
My biggest motivation currently is my 4 year old son. I want him to grow up to be an avid reader and I know he won’t unless he sees me reading.
Before you had your son, what drove to the books??
Escape mostly.
Reading makes me happy.
My motivation to read is just simply my love of reading and the sheer joy that it brings me.
Me too
It’s the place I can escape to
Me too… escape.
Escape from reality
It’s fun.
I don’t need to escape my reality anymore but exploring impossible worlds is just fun.
What motivates someone to play a game? Listen to music? Watch TV? Etc
Usually it’s simply Because they enjoy it.
I like how you put it :-),
It’s not an escape but and exploration to the impossible and sometimes possible:)
And the joy that it brings
The story and the book itself.
I like it, it really is that simple.
The adventure!
Lots of reasons. The love of a good story, the love of beautiful writing, to experience someone else’s world, to dream, to escape ,
A few reasons but it is a good way for me to escape and in a way I use it to meditate and calm myself.
entertainment and sharing with others as well as learning and expanding my views and imagination. also fights anxiety or boredom when you have to wait for things like appointments
I’ve just always loved reading. I think it stems from the fact that my mom read to me daily when I was little, and I’ve always associated it with memories of that.
Learning something new every day motivates me to read!
I love being transported into the story; being inspired by many true stories; and gaining knowledge from wise writers.
The stories. Alternatively escapism.
Helps with depression and supposedly prevents dementia
Simply knowledge & thoughts of how others think & live
21 reasons lol..Reading Gives Me That Peace Of Mind and I can drift away n2 watever Im reading……I rreally run to the Book when Im shitty lbs
Escape from reality, a chance to be someone else somewhere else.
I am the same way. It’s gives me a peace of mind
No tv
Me too
I like the different topics and I need to escape from stressors
My brain likes to work out ?️♀️
I can picture myself as the main character and have different lives ?
I just enjoy it so much ..For me is like food is for my stomach and books are for my brain
I want to keep my mind active and expand it.
I don’t need motivation to read. I need motivation to put my book down and get work done.
Enjoyment and the sometimes need to escape the world. But mainly enjoyment
I just love getting lost in a good story ? when life gets too stressful it’s great to just sit back and escape into a new exciting world
? this!
DItto!
Learning and fun and no tv
The only time I can breathe and not worry about the world.
To learn, to explore, to go in adventures without leaving the safety of my home ?
It is just somehow fascinating how words on a paper have the ability to make you laugh, make you cry; make you emotional in general.
Its like living another life in the comfort of my fat ass.
Lol
Also, books got me through some tough times of my adolescent so I’m super passionate about reading.
It’s always been my escape from the realities of life. I’ve been sick my whole life, both mentally and physically and it allows me to forget for a while how bad life can be.
I believe books will take me more places. I’m not the quickest reader, but I love to learn new things.
It’s something I love, also living your best life. I get off track, get bogged down but when I see someone else(usually just a stranger just out in the world) doing something. I love that I get an internal need to be more focused on the things that bring me joy.
Its my escape
It’s my drug. People do other things to escape like travel and all, for me this is it.. This is everything that ever will be for me.
I love to be able to immerse myself in a different place and time.
Adventure? Imagination? A place where anything is possible? An opportunity to see the world differently? I don’t really know. It’s probably a combination of all of them.
Free Therapy- like a Prozac in pages
To escape the everyday, learn new things, experience cultures that I’ll never be able to visit (either real or fictional). I love a good emotional journey, to fall in love with a character, feel their pain and their joy.
Books have helped my depression no end. To be able to put my own life aside and take time out is so invaluable to me.
An escape from the real world. Sometimes you need to shut it out for a while.
A break from reality. A window into the experiences and feelings of someone else. To learn of new places and things. To see the world from a different perspective. The list is endless.
My granny was a librarian. When I was with her in the library I used to browse books. Also I have a curious mind and strong attachment with fanatsy worlds. So I read for knowledge and also spend my time in fantasy world.
To get away without having to go anywhere.
Boredom.
Finding a book that just jumps out at me. Inside book jacket for starys.
The books themselves lmao
Being able to escape reality, experience a new world and dream about it when I sleep
Never known not too… I’m from a family of readers, and taught myself how to read by age 4. My parents read to me every night and just cuz ?
books!
A break from reality. I’ve always loved reading. I taught myself to read before I started kindergarten but I’ve always love it. As I got older, more specifically when I became a teenager, reading helped me escape reality. I didn’t have the best childhood and books were kinda like my rabbit hole. Even now that I’m in a much better place, I just want to escape sometimes. The stress of school, drama, people, the pressure of anything and everything, the temptations, everything.
To relax and take myself away
To learn ❤️ That’s what keeps me reading ? I always take away something from a book no matter what the genre or story ??
New stories. I love getting lost in them.
Escape. Adventure. Other worlds.
My inexplicable obssession with words and my dream to become a writer.
It’s an escape
Escape. Books are my only escape from depression and anxiety. I get to live a new life in a new place and meet new people. That’s what motivates me to read.
escape. to keep my mind occupied.
Getting lost in the book.
it makes my brain happy 🙂
Escaping reality, even for just a few minutes a day
Boredom
Escape from loneliness.
Either I’m bored or there are these things called readathons that give me the motivation to read throughout the week.
Being put in a different world. Passing time. Enjoyment. Break from reality. I just LOVE reading!
Also satisfaction of finishing a book
Learning
Just looking to get caught up in something other than what is going on around me, to escape my reality. You learn something new with every book you read
adventure and the thrills
So many reasons
To Educate yourself
The interest of where this will lead in novels
The magic & ability of authors to put words together…. to create suspense… connection .. emotion … ?❤️
I don’t need motivation to read, I just enjoy it.
Same here. My problem is putting the book down and getting other stuff done.
i love to meet new people, know them better, visit places.. and books does that for me, books r my travel plans.??
Its my way of getting away bad vibes in life hahahah
Self satisfaction and the learning purpose
Being able to avoiding social interactions with actual humans and disappear into a book with people, mystical beings or creatures that i can actually stand and enjoy
To escape reality.
When I read every day I develop a habit which makes me want to read more and more every day without even thinking because sometimes when I don’t read in a while I get lazy and procrastinate reading so it is really hard to get myself into reading again. It makes me develop numerous habits, and grow as a person in other fields apart from reading. That is the biggest impact, but there are many more: learning interesting stuff, seeing other’s way of thinking and improving your own, escaping from the reality, being astonished by the author’s imagination. 🙂
The curiosity of knowing new worlds and characters, and how a person could imagine all that.
Escape
Just the joy of reading, knowing that I can go virtually anywhere with a good book to read. I have always loved reading, my mom says I knew the alphabet and was sounding out small words at 2 years old!! ???
Escape.
Escaping to another world
Learning about other people’s lives (fictional or real) – whether it is because of issues they have to cope with or the area in which they stay/stayed.
Escape, relaxation
the enjoyment
To explore new lives, immerse into something good for my soul and of course, enjoyment. 🙂
Clearing my mind
Adventure.
Depth. And I’m sick to death of being online. 🙂 Says the woman who is online. 🙂
Nothing. I just like to read.
Its my escape.
The amount of knowledge out there.
Keeping away from the people in my neighborhood and out of trouble.
A mental break, adventure, to laugh and or cry, learning, probably more, but these are the main ones.
The new and interesting characters.
I like to travel to other worlds and life’s and meet new people
Escaping reality
I can sit in the comfort of my favorite chair and go anywhere in the world I want and do anything I want.. the possibilities are endless
The book lol… if that makes sense
Totally makes sense.
Yay! Glad someone understands?
I lost my motivation ?
It’s my therapy!!!❤️
Having time in my schedule motivates me to read!
The lust for knowledge.
My genes
It is how I relax
if I like the story enough, then I almost get lost in the setting, characters, and storyline. And if I absolutely LOVE it, then its almost like a race to finish so I can talk to others about it, discuss ships, theories, headcanons, and all sorts of other stuff. I enjoy the feeling of understanding why what happened happened.
My own life which sounds super sad when I put it like that but its such a wonderful thing to read about other worlds, lives, and experiences. You get to go somewhere else and be in someone else’s shoes without having to do much work.
