I recently switched to the Kindle Oasis and I love it. I also loved my nook Glowlight Plus – they are very similar, but the Kindle has physical page turn buttons.
I’m not an experienced user, but I just got the Paperwhite Kindle and it’s amazing. My boyfriend did the research but it might be the only one that doesn’t strain your eyes? Also, if you go with a Kindle, there are two versions…one with book suggestions/ads and one without.
Kindle Oasis. It’s more expensive than most, but no eye strain, easy to handle, I can read it anywhere, anytime. I love it. I’ve had several ereaders starting with the Nook, and the Oasis beats them all.
Kindle Paperwhite. I read a lot outside and it’s great in the sun. iPad and iPhone not so good in sunlight. Plus, books go back and forth from iPad to iPhone to Audible (Audible for a fee), which is nice if I’m sitting at appt and bored.
I agree. I have both, but I’m not a fan of the Fire. I use it only because it has a speaker, which makes it possible to listen to my books using text-to-speech while I’m driving.
Kindle Fire, although I have the free Kindle application on everything, and they all sync, so it’s always with me. End up using my phone most, while waiting in lines.
the glowlight 3 does that too. and it has a night mode with a warmer light. you can set it to auto so the backlight changes with the natural progression of the sun.
Kindle Paperwhite. Have used Kindle about 6-7 years. 1st one stopped working properly, then read exclusively on iPad. Learned it wasn’t good for eyes/brain and bought Paperwhite. Still use iPad & iPhone on occasion when I don’t have Kindle w/me, i.e. waiting for Doctor.
I don’t know why, but I like more use my own iPad mini my Kindle. Maybe because in my mini have many e-reader apps and I like to listen to music from Spotify at the same time than I use/read my ebooks. ? And I don’t know what I get more migraine when I used my Kindle than my mini, it was quite shock.
Definitely the kindle paperwhite. Just yesterday I was reading from Overdrive on my iPad and had to stop due to eye strain. That doesn’t happen with the kindle paperwhite.
Kindle Paperwhite is my fave for reading at home. The kindle app on my tiny little ipod touch is my favorite for out and about. If I had to pick one and only one, it’d be the paperwhite. Or the ipod. 😀
(the reason I pick the ipod for out and about is that it is so tiny and so lightweight. It doesn’t tire my hand for hours of reading (in a plane, or bus, for example) and it is extremely sturdy. It slips into my back pocket or purse and it powers on quickly. I just love it. This is the Ipod 4, I think. Not the latest, but the one right before.)
I don’t find no it too big. Slides in my purse just fine. Good size for web page viewing, etc. I read on my phone too, but get frustrated that it’s too small. Have to “turn pages” too ften
I have 3 Kindles of different models and love them all, but my favorie is the Paper White. Have tried the Nook and ipad, but like the Kindle best, hands down. It goes everywhere I go. The ereader is a marvelous invention, and any of them is way better than none at all!
I have the Kindle Paperwhite and love it. I haven’t tried other e-readers but I’ve tried reading on a tablet and the difference is significant in my opinion.
Ok, I’m holding all of you Paperwhite fans responsible. I’ve ordered mine, and it’s due to arrive on Sunday. As I said in an earlier post, I read on my iPhone. But, I do know there are issues with blue light and quality sleep. So, thanks for the feedback! ?
I am at the stage of life where I frequently wake up during the night. It is the perfect thing for reading beside a sleeping spouse. I don’t know what I’d do without my paperwhite. Any other form of screen is just too bright when the room is dark. Even at the lowest light setting. Enjoy yours!
What will be your first book? You might be able to go to your Manage my Devices page and preload it! Woot! (not sure….)
@Leah I had a First-generation Kindle, but I hated the page-numbering system, and also the fact that it waa not backlit. Still, I used it until it died!?
@Rosemary thank you for your positive response and encouragement! Yes, I often read when I can’t sleep (i’m still recovering from rotator cuff surgery, and regularly wake up in pain). I’m glad to know it won’t be too bright, as my phone often is. And preloading the device is a great idea. I can also reload all of the Kindle books I’ve purchased in the past. I have such a terrible memory, I love to re-read books! ?
@Leah It is so relaxing on the eyeballs. As I read, I gradually turn it down….. then down….. I find that the very low light is also soporific for those difficult nights.
Here is to continual mending on that shoulder! Hugs. * gentle hugs *
I use Kobo. I love my Kobo H2O. But my favourite has to be my Kindle DX, it’s got a 9.7” screen so useful. But I love my H2O if we’re talking about small ereaders
Kindle and get the kindle app for your iPhone. It syncs to the last page you read. Very handy for picking up where you stopped reading when you are waiting somewhere.
Kindle Paperwhite.
My iPad. ?
I recently switched to the Kindle Oasis and I love it. I also loved my nook Glowlight Plus – they are very similar, but the Kindle has physical page turn buttons.
have you compared the oasis to the paperwhite?
@Mary No, because I wanted a waterproof reader. I had a regular nook Glowlight (not Plus or waterproof) a while back and that was fine, too.
I will say that the Oasis screen is a bit bigger than other eInk readers, which is also a plus for me.

@Leah I got the 6s Plus just to read on it easier ??
@Andrea wish I’d thought of that! ?
@Leah it’s so much better!
Tablet and my iPhone
Kindle Paperwhite. That way I’m sure to use it only for reading since I can’t surf the web that well on it.
Kindle Paperwhite. I tried the Kindle Fire HD, but it’s nowhere near as good as the paperwhite for me
I agree. I have both, but I’m not a fan of the Fire. I use it only because it has a speaker, which makes it possible to listen to my books using text-to-speech while I’m driving.
Me too
Kindle Paperwhite!
Kindle Fire, although I have the free Kindle application on everything, and they all sync, so it’s always with me. End up using my phone most, while waiting in lines.

Kindle Paperwhite
Kindle Paperwhite. No glare, back-light, and easy to use.
Glowlight 3 all the way
Paperwhite waaaay better.
how so? not familiar
Because of the backlight. U can read for long hours without tiring your eyes unlike reading a book or from your Ipad. 🙂
the glowlight 3 does that too. and it has a night mode with a warmer light. you can set it to auto so the backlight changes with the natural progression of the sun.
plus it always is a bonus that there is a physical store with working humans that you can talk to if you need help
My phone!
It’s light, it’s backlit so I can read in bed without bothering my husband, and I already own it!
Can download ePub books and Kindle books. Can also download Audible and audio books from library.
(I don’t have trouble falling asleep after reading on it; for some, that would be an issue)

Kindle
Kindle Oasis, followed very closely by Kindle Paperwhite.
Kindle paperwhite with the light 😀
Definitely the kindle paperwhite. Just yesterday I was reading from Overdrive on my iPad and had to stop due to eye strain. That doesn’t happen with the kindle paperwhite.

I like my kindle paperwhite
Kindle Paperwhite is my fave for reading at home. The kindle app on my tiny little ipod touch is my favorite for out and about. If I had to pick one and only one, it’d be the paperwhite. Or the ipod. 😀

Kindle Paperwhite
I am starting to like my ipad for reading!! Something I never ever thought I would say as always been old fashioned and loving my paper books.
Welcome to the dark side ?. I make it a black screen with white letters, easier on my eyes…
@Kimberly Surprisingly, the black with white letters is also easier to read in the bright sun. It seems backwards, but it works for me.
@Kimberly it’s fab for night time reading.
It is and I don’t get migraine which come to me quite easily. And much easier my eyes than Kindle etc.
Agree, agree, agree ?. iPad is the best!
iPad! iPad! iPad! I’ve had kindles…… iPad FAR superior
But its so big!
@Francine My ipod touch is just a tiny little ipad. The kindle app works beautifully on it, and it is about the size of a playing card. I adore it.
Me, too. @Kimberly
Well I have mini and it is just as big as the pocket book, not much bigger any way.
@Sandy my phone is too small..my I pad is too big…but my kindle paperwhite is just right! Just like Goldilocks. Hahaaaa
My ipad mini is about the size of a standard novel.
I don’t find no it too big. Slides in my purse just fine. Good size for web page viewing, etc. I read on my phone too, but get frustrated that it’s too small. Have to “turn pages” too ften
Kindle
Kindle Paperwhite light weight and you can read outside in sunlight.

Me!
Kindle! I currently have the Kindle Touch, but outside of the Kindle Fire (which is like Amazon’s iPad), I’d use any Kindle version.
Kindle Oasis
I love my Kindle Fire, but I think they’ve changed it significantly since I bought mine.
I too love my Kindle fire. In fact I have two of them one 7 or8″ the other 10″

I just LOVE mine!

What will be your first book? You might be able to go to your Manage my Devices page and preload it! Woot! (not sure….)
You won’t regret it. I was anti e reader until my Paperwhite. I don’t use it as often as some, but it’s the closest to a real book for me!
@Leah And, they solved that wonky page numbering system. 🙂
Oh then you will love it!! Enjoy!!
@Rosemary aww, thank you! (Your kindness makes me want to cry… But in a good way!)
Oh, yay!!!
(About the numbering issue!)
Thank you, Leah! ?
I use Kobo. I love my Kobo H2O. But my favourite has to be my Kindle DX, it’s got a 9.7” screen so useful. But I love my H2O if we’re talking about small ereaders

Kindle fire
Kindle fire but I also have a kindle white as that’s good for outdoor reading
Hey, look, my Kindle Paperwhite arrived a DAY EARLY!!! Thanks to all of you for your input and encouragement! ❤️
❤️❤️❤️❤️
I’m wondering if a 6″ screen is small
Well, I’ve been reading on an I-phone, so for me it seems HUGE!!!?
About like a paperback without the bulk. The font size is adjustable, if print size is of concern to you.
@Suzanne yes, compared to a paperback book it is very light.
You are gonna love this!
Thank you everyone for all your comments.
have 3 kindles–they keep getting bigger as time passes, expect in 10 or so years they’ll be the size of a TV…lol but i love my kindles
Hahaaa. However you like it!
Actually I think we have it – Fire TV 🙂
Kindle and get the kindle app for your iPhone. It syncs to the last page you read. Very handy for picking up where you stopped reading when you are waiting somewhere.
