It’s a good book, easy read, not sure if it is ‘a classic’. I picked it up along with a few others from a 100 books to read before you die as , beyond my last two Hemingway books and The Brothers Grimm, I don‘t have much reading direction for this year.
I read the first book in the trilogy years ago and thought it was a well thought out world and a complex, interesting plot with all kinds of interwoven themes. Funny you should post about it – I just picked up the entire trilogy for $3 yesterday and had decided I need to read all three.
James, Herbert’s Dune is incredible. Don’t let the hokey movies scare you off. For Dune fans, a movie is coming soon. If you enjoy great science fiction, I highly recommend Asimov’s Foundation trilogy.
Following , have the first one on my tbr shelf
I am currently reading it. My only experience of Science Fiction is Wells and Verne
@James I like both of them. I don’t have a huge sci fi background either.
You can’t go wrong–Dune’s a true sci-fi classic!

@James Hemingway’s wonderful–I need to read more of his short stories and books; but I’ve liked the ones I’ve read.

I am picking up environmental undertones in the story
@James oh, definitely!
Awesome. I am currently on the second book of it. It is a very nice easy read. Nothing overly taxing about the writing style
@James I will look forward to catching up!
I’m glad I read it. The first book is especially good, but the quality drops off significantly in all the sequels.
I agree with Don Lawson.
Keep a glass of water handy, but otherwise I enjoyed it.
Classic
I LOVED it! The first science fiction I had ever read!

Yes! The Foundation trilogy is another classic.
I just read it recently. I enjoyed it
