The characters were so unlikeable that it was a bit of a hard read. Her other books have unlikeable characters, too! But I liked the stories and writing, so…
I picked it up at the store, read the first paragraph and was hook. I absolutely loved it. I read it before I saw the movie, so I want sure of where it was going to end I recommend it a lot to others and have lent out my copy.
Unlike many people I’ve talked to, I loved the ending. I thought it fit what we knew of the characters very well, and it was much more clever than either of the alternatives I had been expecting.
DNF, although that was a few years ago. Incidentally I watched the film only the other night and quite enjoyed it so it’s piqued my interest in the book again.
I hated it. I’ve tried a few books by Gillian Flynn and I’ve loathed every single on. I personally found her characters to all be pretty terrible people and I just can’t get into a book if I hate everyone.
I didn’t particularly like it, though the twists were interesting. The characters, though, really dragged down the narrative. I couldn’t enjoy the book because I loathed the characters
It was good but I agree with the reader above, it was way over-hyped. There is an Australian suspense author I like WAY better, Liane Moriarty. The Husband’s Secret is great.
It was really good
yes ..very good ..could not put down
Loved it
Loved it!!!
I loved it and the movie!
Loved it!!!
Loved it.
Loved it! And because of it read the rest of Gillian Flynn’s books.
Boring, predictable, boring, boring, boring!
liked it & also her other books
Honestly… hated it. I had to bribe myself to finish it. ?
I liked it.
It was a good, average, easy read
I loved it but it was also my first suspense book.
I am one of the few that didn’t l like it at all.
@Wendy me either. And I really didnt like the ending
I liked it a LOT.
The characters were so unlikeable that it was a bit of a hard read. Her other books have unlikeable characters, too! But I liked the stories and writing, so…
AmaZing! It’s the psychological
Thriller that hooked me into this genre
I liked it at first, but felt it became too far fetched
It was good better reading the book than the movie
Great book love it , seen the movie also
Hated the ending
Loved it
It was ok, I also disliked the ending!
Loved it
I really liked it. Read it before the movie. Do that with all movies.
I really liked it. Read it before the movie. Do that with all movies.
Just ok for me. Not the best I’ve ever read.
Years ago. I liked it.
I enjoyed it. Great twist!
Great!
I picked it up at the store, read the first paragraph and was hook. I absolutely loved it. I read it before I saw the movie, so I want sure of where it was going to end
I recommend it a lot to others and have lent out my copy.
Didnt care for it.
I liked it
Read it before the movie. ?
Didn’t like it much.
It’s not a book you can forget
I really liked it. The twists and turns kept me turning pages like crazy.
I liked it.
Loved it
Book was amazing! Movie was crap
Couldn’t put it down but didn’t like any of the characters
Book was ok movie was horrible
Unlike many people I’ve talked to, I loved the ending. I thought it fit what we knew of the characters very well, and it was much more clever than either of the alternatives I had been expecting.
Couldn’t put it down. Excellent twist.
Loved it!
Hated it. HATED IT.
Great book, movie not so much!
Intriguing
Liked it
Interesting, but so many unlikable characters!
I loved it! One of my favorites
Was one of those books I stopped reading …. hated it and the movie
I really enjoyed it.
So good! Loved it!
Great book
Excellent!
Loved reading it… Pretty dark and I don’t think I want to read it again though
DNF, although that was a few years ago.
Incidentally I watched the film only the other night and quite enjoyed it so it’s piqued my interest in the book again.
I really liked the writing and it kept me guessing!
I hated it. I’ve tried a few books by Gillian Flynn and I’ve loathed every single on. I personally found her characters to all be pretty terrible people and I just can’t get into a book if I hate everyone.
@Tara I agree 100%.
Loved it was addictive
I tried to read it, but didn’t get into it so quit.
I loved it, the two main characters deserved each other. It was dark, funny and kept my interest all the way through. Not your typical mystery.
I liked it. I thought the characters were well developed and interesting. It’s twists were interesting as well. I give this a thumbs up!
I enjoyed it, way better than the movie
I loved it and marvelled at Flynn’s ingenuity. The plot is really unique. I didn’t like the film, though.
Loved..read all.books by Flynn afterwards
Good read but wanted to seriously smack the main characters. Lots of mystery and twists and turns. Rare that I don’t like at least 1 character.
the film was boring
I enjoyed book and movie.
Quick read, not very substantial. Good way to escape for an evening.
enjoyed the book not the movie
Loved it!
I didn’t know what to think at first, but eventually I got really into it. And the twists in my opinion were really good and to me unexpected
I really enjoyed it.
I liked the book for suspense and how I had emotion over characters actions.
Not a fan
It just wasn’t my type of story.
Following
It disturbed me for some reason. read it but don’t look at any other of her books.
Liked it
Very good book. Enjoyed it. Movie not so much.
I didn’t particularly like it, though the twists were interesting. The characters, though, really dragged down the narrative. I couldn’t enjoy the book because I loathed the characters
I have it was a good movie and book
I thought it was overrated. We read it for a book club and half liked it, half never finished. I didn’t finish it.
It was good but I agree with the reader above, it was way over-hyped. There is an Australian suspense author I like WAY better, Liane Moriarty. The Husband’s Secret is great.
I’m reading The Husband’s Secret right now. 🙂
Her other books are also really good
I agree. That was a good one.
I read – and really liked – Big Little Lies
@Susannah The Husband’s Secret was a much better book
Loved it! Full of twists and turns and so well written.
I agree — it was good but overrated. Not a book I would recommend.
I thought it was a good book.
I liked it.
I found it tedious
I liked Gone Girl; didn’t feel the same way about the next 2 of hers I read.
I regret reading it.
Didn’t care for it.
I liked it.
Really liked it
I really liked it!!
I loved it. I love a good twisty turny psychological thriller and that is exactly how Gone Girl is written.
It was very good
I read it and liked it.
One of the biggest twist and I did not see it coming at all. Such a good book. I LOVED LOVED LOVED it.
Loved it!!!!
Definitely worth reading! Similar style book which was also a winner: The Girl on the Train.
I didn’t care for it- the characters were not likable at all.
I liked it
Hated the movie!?
@Charlotte – agree … the movie was not good
I didn’t care for the movie so I’m hesitant to read the book.
Shelley – I always try towhead book before I see the movies… this is a perfect example of why …. book is not like the movie
@Sue – I usually read the book and then watch the movie but this movie came along first. Big mistake. lol
I really really didn’t like it. And I normally love books in that genre!
I couldn’t stop reading it!
I enjoyed it
it was ok … saw the movie too
LOVE LOVE LOVE this book !!!
I did and it was different!!
One of the few books I’ve read that I chucked at the wall when I finished, wish I had that time back!
@Nicole I did the same thing with The Story Of Edgar Sawtelle.
Didn’t finish it. Pretty nutty characters – I became disgusted with them.
I remember being totally engrossed by it.
Creepy, but I did like it.
My least favorite of her books, but it seemed to strike a nerve with readers. I usually recommend her other thrillers
I loved Sharp Objects but Dark Places was too dark for me.
@Peggy they are very dark. You also love Tana French, who pens some very dark police procedurals.
@Melanie Yes, I love Tana French!
