I first read The Shining when it was a fairly new book, and I was living alone in an attic in Ann Arbor. This was unwise. I don’t know that it’s the scariest book he ever wrote, but it certainly scared me more than any of the others.
I love stephen king and there are books I like more than the shining but I gotta say the shining was the scariest I even had nightmares back then but totally worth it! ? also bag of bones scared me loved it!
Pet Cemetery – I don’t know if I will ever be able to read it again. Definitely a book to read during the bright morning hours – reading something else before bed.
So many are scary in the “traditional” way, but many of SK’s books are about the “monster within”, which I think is often more scary than “external” monsters. I love “Gerald’s Game” as that includes both types 🙂 Also really like Rose Madder for scariness – I have been there with abusive partner and it is so true to life!
I read that it is one of Steve’s unfavourites of his novels, but I LOVE it. I re-read it every couple of years. The ending is insane, and makes me feel insane for a day or two after finishing it as well – the power of Stephen KIng!
It and The Shining
I’ve not read them all but when I read Misery I had to put it down a few times!
It and the shining for me too 🙂
Gerald’s Game is a very psychological type scary.
This one still creeps me out.
After I read it I saw that man with the suitcase in the corner many nights!!
Slow at the beginning but when you get down into it ,it’s stays with you .
Pet Sematary
Only book that’s ever scared me.
I bought that book in 9th grade. I still haven’t finished it lol
The Mist (short story)
For me Cell because it was horror but plausible. ?
I liked Misery and Cujo
It, The Shining and Pet Semetary
Thank you for your suggestions!
In no particular order: Misery, IT, The Shining, Carrie, Christine, The Long Walk
IT
IT and The Shining
I have read quite a few of his books but the one that kept me awake was Under the Dome.
Thinner
I rather enjoyed it.
I liked it as well but just think if that could happen and you never knew ??
I liked Bag of Bones
Some of his short stories are utterly chilling!
I dont know why ..maybe I should have continued but I had to stop The shining around page 250 it was sooo boring …did I just stop too soon ?!?
