Susie Carmichael I’ve read a lot of romance and I love some of the older stuff but the newer novels that are published can get a bit cheesy and have no decent plot and that is what has made me go off it.
Yeah I know what you mean with the sports and rockstar stuff. It just doesn’t appeal to me anymore. Bring back the days where Fabio was on the cover! ?
one? ufff…as an antiquarian there where plenty…right, drama , history…I’d rather talk with them an hour about physics, spirituality, Hesse and Steinbeck than recommending the right Shakespeare or Sartre play….I always said “just browse in here, I won’t argue with u on quantum physics if u don’t on civil rights or wrongs” 😛
@Stephanie Margaret Atwood leaps to mind. Actually, IMO, it is the rare dystopian story that is well written. I find them almost as tedious to read as Romance novels. But, this is just my opinion. I am totally fine with the knowledge that others enjoy both of these genres.
Fantasy is probably the one genre I won’t read. I like a thought-provoking, tangible story. It seems like anything can & will happen in fantasy which makes it hard (for me) to stay engaged.
@Morgan i’m ok with love stories or contemporary romance, but tbh i’d rather read about a serial killer gutting someone in detail than about a guy slinging his dick somewhere ???
@Maggie yes toxic is how I find it too tbh. ESP when you’re looking at controlling stories such as fifty shades. Unless you’ve been around a toxic relationship or have been in one, you’d never get why they can sometimes be distressing to read.
Fantasy. My ex husband could sit for hours and enjoy the one genre I don’t find interesting. I tried. He would recommend a book but it would take him hours just to explain the back stories so I would understand the beginning chapters.
@Stacey so no time travel? I had to say Sci-fi because while fantasy doesn’t excite me, I find the concept of traveling to another time fascinating. Especially going back in time.
Western, Biography and Romance if it’s all that lovey dovey stuff. Those genres are all just so boring lol. Some Sci-Fi I like but not the whole StarTrek space crap. Everything else I’m game for if the story is good. I’d never read Erotica until recently and I didnt even realize what I was reading till I got to that part lol. Other than that the book was great! So don’t ever not try new genres cause you never know if you might like it or not until you read it ?
General romance, a good rural romance is hard to pass up though. Sci-Fi, westerns (read so many they become a bit of a formula) horror, crime (true crime can be fascinating though) erotica…..
Sci-fi and Fantasy.

@Rebecca I actually wanted to get started with romance. But didn’t know how.
@Rebecca it seems like everyone is into those sports romance things. Or rockstar romances
Susie Carmichael I’ve read a lot of romance and I love some of the older stuff but the newer novels that are published can get a bit cheesy and have no decent plot and that is what has made me go off it.

Romance.
@Maggie it just doesn’t really satisfy really does it lol
@Jessica It’s always shallow and even toxic. It also takes a mental toll on the reader whether they realize it or not.
@Maggie yes toxic is how I find it too tbh. ESP when you’re looking at controlling stories such as fifty shades. Unless you’ve been around a toxic relationship or have been in one, you’d never get why they can sometimes be distressing to read.
@Jessica Very true! Thankfully I’ve only had to read two romance novels, both for a literature comprehension class. What genres do you read instead?
@Maggie I love crime, general fiction and I still can’t get my head out of a good YA. What about you?
@Jessica Good choices! I like fiction, historical as long as it doesn’t revolve around romance, and fantasy.
