What’s one genre that you just don’t like?What’s one genre that you just don’t like? Susie #questionnaire
Sci-fi and Fantasy.
@Elizabeth same here also
Nick Stebbins hey keep writing! That’s pretty much all my husband reads, so he will love it!
Nick Stebbins that genre is all I read, so I’ll probably read your book☺️
Romance.. I’ve just never read it and haven’t thought to pick it up. If someone wants to let me know their favorite I’ll check it out ?
Romance and chicklit.
Romance and Westerns
Romance and horror
Romance. …it’s corny and porny and not for me.
@Kyla I’m actually going off Romance too for the same reason. Makes my skin crawl with all the cheesiness. ?
@Rebecca I actually wanted to get started with romance. But didn’t know how.
@Rebecca it seems like everyone is into those sports romance things. Or rockstar romances
Susie Carmichael I’ve read a lot of romance and I love some of the older stuff but the newer novels that are published can get a bit cheesy and have no decent plot and that is what has made me go off it.
Yeah I know what you mean with the sports and rockstar stuff. It just doesn’t appeal to me anymore. Bring back the days where Fabio was on the cover! ?
Sci-fi and war
Romance. I like a love story… But romances… Blegh. Or isn’t light pastel coloured fiction. Zzzz
heavy Romance mostly, like i don’t mind it if it’s part of a bigger plot but just a plot about romance is a no for me
Fantasy. Although going off Romance as find it all the same and the cheesiness makes me feel icky.
That ranks up there with Ikea instruction pamphlets
@Katrina Yes. Yes it does.
@Katrina But they don’t even have words, just pointy arrows and single letters!!
The blob infuriates me ?
@Sue I’m not even sure if they count, but I still don’t like ’em.
@Pat I like them as much as any manual for anything technological #gobbledegook
Horror, and self help! I LOVE romance/erotica!
Non-fiction and horror.
The cheesey dime a dozen romance books you find in drugstores and Walmart lol
science fiction (I have no imagination), cosy detective stories and predictable cheesy romances
Not a huge fan of science fiction unless is really well done but I’m not that picky!
Nick Stebbins thanks ?
Romance and crime.
Romance and smut
Romance lol Which is funny cuz I don’t mind romantic movies too much, but with books I just can’t stand it. ?
Sci Fi 🙁
one? ufff…as an antiquarian there where plenty…right, drama , history…I’d rather talk with them an hour about physics, spirituality, Hesse and Steinbeck than recommending the right Shakespeare or Sartre play….I always said “just browse in here, I won’t argue with u on quantum physics if u don’t on civil rights or wrongs” 😛
Romance and sci fi
Sci-fi. I just can’t get into it.
Horror, I know it’s popular but I don’t think much of it
Fantasy, Sci Fi
Horror because I get nightmares.
@Nay same here
@Vern ?♀️ it plays with my imagination waaay too much
Christian fiction, self-help and westerns
Sci-fi and fantasy….
Romance. Dont get me wrong, I love a good love story but story is often lacking in that genre
Crime thrillers. Just not my thing.
science fiction (there have been a few exceptions but not many)
Contemporary Urban. Just….no.
Romance for sure
Fantasy, sci-fi, paranormal, horror, YA, westerns
Autobiographies and romance!
Not a big fan of reading Westerns, prefer to watch them.
Romance and YA
Romance and mystery
Sci fi. Just blah
I don’t think there’s really a genre I don’t like ? If I had to pick, I’d say nonfiction or self help books.
Erotica. Don’t want to see it, don’t want to hear about it and definitely don’t want to read about it in explicit detail. Bores me to death. ?
Sci fi/fantasy I’ve tried multiple time I just can’t get into it … not a huge fan of erotica either ?
Romance/Harlequin porn smut/sci-fi/fantasy….
Nordic noir and true crime
Horror. I get nightmares easly
Dystopian with overzealous political agenda And Romance.
@Theresa what are some examples of the first?
@Stephanie Margaret Atwood leaps to mind. Actually, IMO, it is the rare dystopian story that is well written. I find them almost as tedious to read as Romance novels. But, this is just my opinion. I am totally fine with the knowledge that others enjoy both of these genres.
My two favourite genres, horror and sci- fi, always get shot down when this question is posed.
@James – those are my favorite genres too!!
Most non-fiction. I can’t stand biographies.
Not a genre, but heavy romance bugs me
Romance- just so damn sappy!
Anything that has a cover that looks anything like this.
@Wendy I agree
A bodice ripper! I avoid those, too! lol
Sci-Fi and Fantasy
Romance and erotica
Historical romance. I just can’t seem to get into them.
Fantasy is probably the one genre I won’t read. I like a thought-provoking, tangible story. It seems like anything can & will happen in fantasy which makes it hard (for me) to stay engaged.
romance, i’ll gouge my own eyes out before i willingly read about a guy slinging his junk around like a helicopter in some woman’s face
@Morgan i’m ok with love stories or contemporary romance, but tbh i’d rather read about a serial killer gutting someone in detail than about a guy slinging his dick somewhere ???
@Kensley I’m fine with a love story BUT not as the main plot.
I can’t think of a genre that doesn’t have redeeming examples
YA and Christian fiction.
Fascist treatises, ?
most horror, most romance, most sci fi
Romance and Westerns
vampire and werewolf type stuff
Erotica. Read it. Not for me
romance and westerns
The kind of chick lit that seems to have exploded over the past few years that could’ve been written by a GCSE student
@Lucky like fifty shades? Lol
Fantasy and Sci-Fi. I know I’m in the minority ?
I hate it too.
There are so many fans here. That’s ok! I DO feel like I’m in the minority (hey, maybe not actually)
Romance / smut
@Maggie it just doesn’t really satisfy really does it lol
@Jessica It’s always shallow and even toxic. It also takes a mental toll on the reader whether they realize it or not.
@Maggie yes toxic is how I find it too tbh. ESP when you’re looking at controlling stories such as fifty shades. Unless you’ve been around a toxic relationship or have been in one, you’d never get why they can sometimes be distressing to read.
@Jessica Very true! Thankfully I’ve only had to read two romance novels, both for a literature comprehension class. What genres do you read instead?
@Maggie I love crime, general fiction and I still can’t get my head out of a good YA. What about you?
@Jessica Good choices! I like fiction, historical as long as it doesn’t revolve around romance, and fantasy.
Memoirs/ Bio’s… I get bored reading about other peoples lives like that. History is another one that I don’t like.
Horror, used to like it but now, not so much
Anything with gratuitous gore
Sci fi or mills n boon lol
Most Victorian lit if that counts as a genre.
@Chelsey I think it does. And I mostly agree
Gore and Horror
@Colleen ?with you!
Horror. Avoid it like the plague. ?
Highschool history. I love historical fiction 🙂
Romance and poetry
Male pregnancy. I won’t be caught dead reading mpreg unless someone’s paying me to.
Is this actually a genre??
Definitely so. More popular than you would think.
What the actual . . . ?! I’m clearly VERY sheltered as I’ve never even heard of that. Although, I’m glad I hadn’t.
Whatever Nicholas Sparks, E.L. James, etc are
Horror. I´m such a chicken ?
Historically based fiction!
Not keen on horror.
Me either on horror.
Romance novels! If my book club picks one I just read something else..?lol
Romance that is over the top sickly sweet and makes you want to be sick
Romance. If it’s blended into a good plot it’s ok. But straight up I don’t enjoy it.
Sci fi, espionage
Historical based fiction
Romance, especially if the word “member” is used ?
Oh yes…I don’t read romance either.
Fantasy and sci fi
Horror and anything with witches etc
Historical fiction rarely entertains me… And westerns don’t interest me at all
Romance, Erotica, Non-Fiction, Self-Help
Anything with overused, cringe-worthy plots. Sometimes the genre isn’t the problem.
This question kind of stumped me..
Science Fiction I think
Fantasy , Sci-Fi- Horror
sci-fi, ya, the hype books
Western or Romance. I can do some contemporary romance but not books like Harlequin.
Most adult fiction and biographies/autobiographies.
Romance, horror, chick lit
I don’t read romance, self help, erotica, or any religious texts.
Romance, sci-fi, dystopian, and YA
Self help or erotica
Romance ,sci fi and self help till an extent…
Hmm… I’m not exactly a romance kind of guy ?♂️
Sci-fi and horror.
Romance and chick lit
Horror and Sci-fi!
Horror and anything overly sexual. Especially Erotica.
Fantasy. My ex husband could sit for hours and enjoy the one genre I don’t find interesting. I tried. He would recommend a book but it would take him hours just to explain the back stories so I would understand the beginning chapters.
@Stacey so no time travel?
I had to say Sci-fi because while fantasy doesn’t excite me, I find the concept of traveling to another time fascinating. Especially going back in time.
Chick Lit/ Romance
Rape, murder & mayhem. Steven King. I can watch the nightly news for that crap.
Romance, I can’t stand it
Fantasy and Sci-Fi
Crime or mystery.
Erotica, horror, gore, paranormal, sci-fi, fantasy
Not a big fan of sci fi. I have read some though
Western, Biography and Romance if it’s all that lovey dovey stuff. Those genres are all just so boring lol. Some Sci-Fi I like but not the whole StarTrek space crap.
Everything else I’m game for if the story is good. I’d never read Erotica until recently and I didnt even realize what I was reading till I got to that part lol. Other than that the book was great! So don’t ever not try new genres cause you never know if you might like it or not until you read it ?
@Colleen I second this ?
General romance, a good rural romance is hard to pass up though.
Sci-Fi, westerns (read so many they become a bit of a formula) horror, crime (true crime can be fascinating though) erotica…..
Horror, crime fiction (that describes grisly crimes). There’s enough of that in real life, which is what I’m reading to get away from…
Erotica. I am not comfortable with sex in general and most read like a porno. To quote Simon Cowell “That’s a no for me!”
war and peace three generations books. after 200 pages I have no idea why am I reading the book anymore.
@Robert – that’s a good way of describing your experience with that book!! ???
Romances, they’re boring and predictable. If it’s a side plot, sure, but when it’s pure romance I get bored quickly.
@Emilie I love reading romance! ?
Hey, keep reading it if it’s your thing.
