My 12 year old son read Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Maze Runner, Percy Jackson (all those are series), Ready Player One, and is currently reading the Lord of the Rings series. He reads at a 9th grade reading level. He enjoyed all of those. I’m going to give him the Divergent series next.

I absolutely loved this at that age!!!

My kids enjoyed the Thrones and Bones series by @Lou. He’s a fantastic guy too.
I always recommend a book my son read when he was that age: The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp. I read it, too, and it’s an adventure!
