My 12 year old son read Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Maze Runner, Percy Jackson (all those are series), Ready Player One, and is currently reading the Lord of the Rings series. He reads at a 9th grade reading level. He enjoyed all of those. I’m going to give him the Divergent series next.

I don’t know if any of these are age appropriate-but they are mostly YA:
Rachel Caine – great library series
Enders game
Locker nine
Wizard of Earthsea
The Illuminae files

I always recommend a book my son read when he was that age: The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp. I read it, too, and it’s an adventure!
