Harry Potter
Seconded!
Always
Yikes! Include some sing along CD’s.
I know!!! I don’t know what I am getting myself into. Lol
You’ll be a pro (or comatose) by the end of the trip!
Remember the old car games, before electronics. I Spy, different state license plates, and the immortal “Punch Buggy!” Or am I letting you know I’m really old?!?! ?
Flavia de Luce
The Land of Stories
Wonder, good lessons on treating others with kindness and respect. Suitable for the 14 year old boy.
And I have that on my tbr list.
A dog’s purpose
What about wizard of oz,
Saveing Simon, The Borrowers,
The One and Only Ivan
Cirque Du Freak is an amazing series. Especially for a 14 year old boy, it is when I started reading them. 🙂
We choose audio books carefully because the voice talent can make or break the book. Here are a few we liked… Loot by Jude Watson, Jack Templar Monster Hunter by Jeff Gunhus, Arf by Spencer Quinn, Sting also by J Watson, Rick Riordan’s Kane Chronicles (3 books starts with The Red Pyramid), Woof by S Quinn, Legend of the Guardians the Owls of Gahoole by Kathryn Lasky. Our favorite is Echo by Pam Munoz Ryan (read the description first it’s distressing at times but wonderful audio as they brought music into the recording).
Anything Mrs. Piggle Wiggle; Cricket in Time Square.
Harry kitten and Tucker Mouse or a Cricket in Times Square are both good..Winnie the Pooh
Dr. Doolittle
Mother Goose..children’s poems
These would be perfect too
Tales from the House of Bunnicula series Edit
All illustrated by Brett Helquist. Audiobook versions of many titles in this series were released featuring narrator Joe Grifasi.
It Came From Beneath the Bed! (2002)
Invasion of the Mind Swappers from Asteroid 6! (2002)
Howie Monroe and the Doghouse of Doom (2003)
Screaming Mummies of the Pharaoh’s Tomb II (2003)
James Howe..writer of Bunnicula
Hmm, “The Adventures if Nanny Piggins” might be fun for everyone.
The Princess Bride
check out Karin slaughter next!!
The little house series, magic tree house, Harry Potter, Mary poppins, anything Beverly clearly.
Anything by David Walliams. He narrates his own books and they are funny and gentle and clever and sometimes a bit dark. My four year old has managed to listen and enjoy. They’re quite British, but that adds to the charm. I recognise the boy in the dress or the demon dentist.
If you can find books by Astrid Lindgren (for examples the Brothers Lionheart, Ronia the Robber’s Daughter etc) or Moomin by Tove Jansson in english, those books might be interesting to heard/listen. Usual those writers are quite popular in here. Or Warriors by Erin Hunter. ?
We recently listened to Matilda, read by Kate Winslet, who was fantastic with the voices, and it was a hit with everyone. A Wrinkle in Time was also good, though my 4YO napped during it quite a lot. Also check out the Eleanor Amplified! Podcast series – they are so fun!
I second Matilda!
“From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler.” Love that one. My daughter also loved “Matilda” however the parents are really mean and this could bother a sensitive 4-year-old. I️ would recommend “James and the Giant Peach” instead for a Roald Dahl choice.
Dominic is a wonderful audio book.
Were listening to 39 clues
@Kelly, hope you’ll let us know the final choices and how the trip went!
Wonder was the choice, but the kids weren’t even interested and played on their tablets/ napped. (I haven’t finished it yet.) I loved seeing everyone’s suggestions and now have a list of other books for us(me really ?) to listen to while on the road. Thank y’all so much!!
Princess Bride- safe for the kids but entertaining for you.
oh what a great idea! i need to get princess bride
Magic Tree house and Wizard of Oz are great ideas. Dog’s Purpose too!
Anything by Neil Gaiman! He narrates them himself and they’re just lovely. I particularly enjoyed “The Ocean at the end of the Lane” and “The Graveyard Book”.
Stig of the Dump by Clive King
