What books have you read that you really wanted to like but you just couldn’t get into to save your life?

What books have you read that you really wanted to like but you just couldn’t get into to save your life?
The help. ?
The movie was good. I have yet to read the book but I borrowed the movie from a friend of mine years ago.
The book didn’t get through, was well written but I just… I don’t know guess the genre isn’t for me?
I know how that is.
The help
Seriously you too?
Lol yeah i really tried!
@Natasha likewise!!
It was slow. I swear only 1 good part in the book and movie was the pie. Thats it
The Girl on the Train
I found this one really hard to get into
A little life
The woman in Cabin 10. Oh how I tried….
I enjoyed the beginning, but the mid- to end just didn’t do it for me.
I just couldn’t get into this one. I’ll try the next one she writes.
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. So many of my friends liked it and I just couldn’t do it. One of the very few books I dnf.
Same here! It sounds exactly what I would recommend to myself, but I’ve never made it past the first 100 pages.
The Fellowship of the Ring.
Same. I gave up on it early on. Might give it another chance though
Still trying to get through it. But the writing is ancient.
Doctor Zivago and Anna Karenina, I guess russian style doesnt strike me, but I want to try again, I was merely a teen when I started them
Ove. Harry Potter. Outlander.
What problems did you have with Outlander? I haven’t gotten to it yet in my reading list.
I personally loved Outlander when I started it for the second time. The first time it didn’t grab me but I had someone encourage me to try reading it again and I’m glad I pushed through the first few chapters!
So it just starts off sorta slow?
In my opinion yes. It is historical fiction set in Scotland so there’s a lot of history and Scottish language but the story I think is great!
Awesome ^.^ Lol I’ve been meaning to read it for the longest time ? I have the first two books actually because I binge read when I do read and I figured I would like it. I just hadn’t seen anyone say they didn’t care for it and it made me curious and a bit nervous about starting it lol
Well I loved it! The love story is great I think! There’s also a tv show based on it that actually follows the storyline quite closely. Each season is 1 book! Also I’m definitely a binge reader too..I always buy the whole series ?
Outlander is my all time fav. All books plus novellas. Love it!!!
The Heroes of Olympus series. 🙁 Sad thing because I love mythology, but the books, they weren’t doing it for me.
That’s a very long list. I can check out 100 books every month. I’ll maybe like 5 if I’m lucky.
Dude… the Night Circus. I heard that it was super amazing and I couldn’t even get through half of it.
Second this one, it’s still on my shelf only half read ?
Omg, saaame! Have been trying to get through it every year, but same goes, it’s just… ugh
I am SO happy I’m not the only one!
Red Queen
The Divergent series
Currently reading Adnans Story. It’s about the guy from the first season of the serial podcast and then later Undisclosed. Amazing story just can’t get into the book. /:
To kill a mockingbird ? I picked the book 5 times always reading a little and leaving it, before I actually pushed through and finished it
I could not enjoy reading this book at all. I understand the importance of the story but I just couldn’t get into it or enjoy it
Honestly I thought the subject under consideration wasn’t handled as it should have been. It felt a little neglected in my opinion ?
@Saman yeah, I see what you mean. It could have been done a lot better
Red Rising ☹️
Me too with this one
His Dark Materials
Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas. I love A Court of Thorns and roses!
Nevernight and The Falling Kingdoms
Lovely Bones. I needed to understand it for my high school englishEnglish essay. Tried reading it so many times but could not really understand what the author is telling me at. Finally understood it but by then my high school year was over.
Most of the books I’ve read this year tbh!
Hunger Games:/
Between The Lines by co-authored by Jodi Picoult and her daughter, Samantha Van Leer. I really wanted to like it so badly!
Me too! Jodi is one of my favorite authors, but I just couldn’t get into that one. I’ve only had one other book by her that I couldn’t get into, Songs of the Humpback Whale.
These Bones Are Not My Child by Toni Cade Bambara
TOG tho I’m not done yet. So hoping it will change. ☺
Looking for Alaska. I didn’t like it at all and I thought I would love it.
And the book thief. I was 60 pages into book thief so i’ll probably give it another try soon.
Harry Potter
The girl on the train, I’m a 100 pages in but keep reading other books first
I second this! I just couldn’t get into it at all, but I did enjoy the movie. ??♀️
I have not seen the movie yet because I wanted to read the book first
The Circle, American Gods, Percy Jackson
Time. Travellers wife
Lord of the Flies
Oh, and most definitely Jaws. Terrible book, but I dragged myself through that one whether I liked it or not
The Divergent series. The first book was alright but I started losing interest halfway through Insurgent.

How to kill a mockingbird

Catch 22 and The Throne of Glass.
The fault in our stars
The Raven Boys… oh how I tried but had to give up about halfway through. I just couldn’t make myself care about it. ?

I tried the audiobook and hated it

The two that really surprised me that I didn’t like were: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, tried to read it twice, did not get even half way. And The Name of the Wind, didn’t get 1/3 of the way in that one and I tried a bunch of times because of how many people loved it.
The great gatsby. I eventually read it but still don’t appreciate what it was all about
