I forced myself to wade through The Hobbit. It was crazy; I’d been reading fantasy for years, and loved the genre. I kept telling myself that I should love this book..and I just didn’t. Got through the movies with the kids giving me the Cliff Notes as we watched. I liked them ok..
@Allison I got as far as the third book. I tried on three separate occasions i just couldn’t do it. I was a bookseller at the time as well so i needed to be familiar with it, but it was just so boring
Girl On The Train. I read it purely because everyone else where I was working was and it drove me bonkers. I just wanted to slap every character so hard. Everyone else loved it. It annoyed me more than Fifty Shades of Grey!
Yeah, I tried reading before watching but had trouble keeping up with all of the characters. I had a much easier time after watching season 1 so had faces to go with at least some of the characters.
The Redwall series. The author couldn’t seem to make up his mind if all of the animals were all of about the same size as each other or if they were all realistically sized which I found confusing and jarring, I couldn’t figure out how I was supposed to be envisioning them. You can’t have a bear sitting in the house of a mouse talking about how the mouse should go infiltrate the castle because they are small enough to go unnoticed, that just doesn’t work!
‘The Country of Ice Cream Star’ by Sandra Newman ~ I really wanted to like it, the narrator of the story has her own made up language, I knew what she meant but for me personally, it took a lot away from the story ~ I will try again at some point?
I absolutely loathed this one book titled ‘The Cellar’ by Natasha Preston. I am the sort of reader that prefers consistency in the books that I read. This means POV (and if you must jump from character to character, don’t bloody overwhelm the entire story with five other stories in one!), must remain consistent, the storyline must remain consistent,.. everything must remain consistent or I am one unhappy woman. The book was published on Wattpad, and it was terribly written then. The author is immensely proud of herself that she is a ‘wattpad’ writer, and though there are many people on wattpad that are amazing authors, she isn’t exactly one of them. I was very disappointed with the book.
@Paula If the writer was willing to change up her story so that it wasn’t a full on copy from her amateur wattpad endeavour, then it would have been far better. If she actually took into consideration the numerous amount of critique saying that having so many characters and their POV fighting for dominance over the main character, the book would have been better. However, she chose to self publish the book instead of going through more traditional methods (which would have told her the amount of mistakes that she made throughout), and as a result of this fact, the book is written rather poorly. She still continues to write for wattpad, and publishes her work… which I don’t think is very fair to her. The stories are the same and are written in the same amateurish way, and she doesn’t bother to learn from her mistakes. That is my issue with this particular writer. She has a book that is a sequel to this that I believe is published (or is bound to be) for The Cellar, but you can read it for free on wattpad… and is the same bloody story.
Lord of the Rings. I quit part way through Fellowship because I was bored.
I won’t even attempt to read them

Now I’ve read The Hobbit twice and enjoyed it. But LotR? Forget it.
Liseys Story by Stephen King
This is one of my favorites.
American Gods how I hate thee, let me count the ways …
Really? I haven’t read it…disappointing
Awful, unlikeable, overall a depressing experience.
So you didn’t like it? ?
It was just ok..I much preferred Ananzi Boys.
Harry Potter.
Love the movies, but just didn’t get into the books. My kids loved them though.
I couldn’t take HP either!
I want to love Harry but have never made it farther than the third chapter
OMG i thought i was the only one haha

Fifty shades of grey
Points for even attempting it
I didn’t even try.
I tried a long time ago when it was all the rage. Everyone tells me that books two and three are better, more drama, less sex lol.
Grapes of Wrath. I had to stop. Maybe one day I’ll finish it.
Was it the dust that drove you away? I remember there were almost eight pages of just dust description.
LOL……right???? 😀 I just couldn’t get into it.
Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver.
The Tommyknockers by Stephen King? I’ve tried & failed with it?
I Could not get into Game of Thrones for the Life of me I tried so hard. I might go back to it once I finish all my other books
Me neither Liz, I sound odd but how many words did he use for horse, just say horse dude! ?
100 Years of Solitude…ugh!
Oh yeah, and Centennial by James Michner..double ugh!
Twilight series ?
I avoided those..I’d read a LOT of vampire books, and just couldn’t wrangle any wants to read them.
Yeah I love Vampires. Started the first one and as soon as he was sparkling in the sun I was done.
Agreed. I finished them because I held out hope that there might be something redeeming in the ending, but I just didn’t like them.
Kite Runner
Really? Did you read/like any of his others?
Haven’t read the others. I’m really a non fiction reader.
Got ya
I finished this book, but def didn’t like it
That’s too bad. How about his others?

Holy cow, that must have been awful. I wouldn’t like to be anywhere near a book worse than E. L. James’ emanations.
I never want to hear the words ‘inner goddess’ again in my life?
I tried to start ‘Girl on the Train’ and I couldn’t get into it?
Scary thought isn’t it, @Gavin? Haha!
@Paula, I ended up speed reading it just to get it done. She was sooooo annoying.
I heard that from a friend too Cheryl that the main character was very annoying xx
The time traveller’s wife
I wasn’t crazy about The Time Traveller’s Wife when I started it, but it got better.
I couldn’t get past the first chapter. I’m going to try again one day. I loved her book Her Fearful Symmetry
The Talisman by Stephen King/ Peter Straub. The ONLY Stephen King book I could not finish. There was too much Straub, not enough King.
A Game of Thrones. I wanted to finish it honestly, but the show is easier to follow .
Yeah, I tried reading before watching but had trouble keeping up with all of the characters. I had a much easier time after watching season 1 so had faces to go with at least some of the characters.
I know what you mean about Game of Thrones, thick language. I read the first book in the series, but I won’t touch the rest.

Hey @Jenny! I felt the same way about that series. I wanted to read it, but I just couldn’t get into it.
Rebecca
No!! I loved that book ?
Loved the movie – book was too wordy?
I did like the movie as well 🙂
‘The Country of Ice Cream Star’ by Sandra Newman ~ I really wanted to like it, the narrator of the story has her own made up language, I knew what she meant but for me personally, it took a lot away from the story ~ I will try again at some point?
And the Ladies of the Club, real snoozer.

I’ve almost bought this several times. Still want to read it, but perhaps I’ll borrow instead 😉
