Snoopy Come Home
Famous Five books by Enid Blyton
Probably either The BFG or The Outsiders
The first book I remember reading at primary school was The Hound of the Baskerville’s when I thought “oh wow””, but Enid Blyton books too mainly Malory Towers, St Claire’s and Famous Five!
Malory Towers was brilliant! And of course I loved the Famous Five too
When I was young, my school had a reading counts program. I think that got me into reading. Junie B. Jones and the magic treehouse were huge factors too.
Junie B Jones and Nancy Drew. I’m a sucker for mystery!
Oh wow yes Nancy Drew was awesome!!
My papaw gave me a Nancy Drew book when i was in elementary school. Its been very well loved (its the only book I still have from 13 years ago. Majorly damaged. Copywrite is 1930s and it belonged to my aunt before me)
The first “chapter book” that I remember was “The Call of the Wild” by Jack London. I can instantly remember the title, and the feeling of enjoyment I had when reading that book. It’s been about 50 years since then and I’ve read thousands of wonderful books since then. Thanks for bringing back those memories of a young boy beginning his love affair with reading.
My naughty little sister and milly molly mandy
To kill a mockingbird
Enid Blyton, especially The Famous Five.
Probably just learning to read in school – loved ‘dick and jane’ books !!
As a child, my mom always read to me before bed. It was a nightly routine. When I was old enough to read on my own, she bought me a Junie B. Jones book. It was that book series that made me fall in love with reading.
I don’t remember the exact book, but my mom is an avid reader and I had something called “Electronic Bookshelf” and you would read a book on the classroom bookshelf and then took a little quiz on the computer. We used to get little prizes or extra credit or something.
The first series I remember I got into was Babysitters Club Little Sister
Call of the wild and White fang – I loved them. Also enjoyed the What Katy did books and then I moved on to Dennis Wheatley when I was a young teenager! 😮
Saddlers Wells Ballet series got me hooked along with all the Enid Blyton series.
Ballet shoes by Noel Stretfield
The Very Hungry Caterpillar ? by Eric Carle
‘Put a sock in it’ was the first ‘big’ book I remember reading front to back but the owl who was afraid of the dark was my first and the one that made me love reading
Was that owl called Plop?? My headmaster, who was also my class teacher read that to the school in assembly and I adored it!
Yes ? I loved it! My kids now love it too ?
When I read Cat who series in 3rd grade. The Cat who loved Red was the first book I found I liked. Lillian Jackson Braun opened my eyes to books outside of the Jack and Jill school books.
I don’t remember ever not reading. I think I had my nose in books before I could read. ? I do remember Dr. Seuss books always sparked my imagination and I love them still. Mom always let me order from Weekly Reader in early elementary school. ???
The wind in the willows being read to me. Then one of the first books I read myself and fell in love with was Charlotte’s Web. The Famous Five were also huge favourites
A Christmas Carol!
I was a really erratic reader as a kid. I’d read loads for awhile and then not pick anything up for a couple of years. Though there was a book called James Bond Superslueth (no idea who wrote it) that initially showed me reading could be fun. I’ve been looking for a copy for years but it must be *really* out of print!
The Indian in the Cupboard and Where the Red Fern Grows.
Robinson Crusoe
Moby Dick, when I was 8. I’ll never forget hunting for the grinning white whale. My mom couldn’t keep me out of the adult section at the library and when I brought her this one she said, “You can get it, but you may not like it.” She was wrong!
Island of the Blue Dalphins
the Laura Ingalls Wilder books
It was the Denni Gordon, Freshman – Senior series. I read them so much the library gifted them to me. I wish I still had them. And, of course, The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew
Hello g-d it’s me Margaret
Walter Farley, The Black Stallion Series
Where The Red Fern Grows, The Outsiders, Nancy Drew books. Ive always loved reading.

I want to say the Magic Tree House series! I was obsessed as a kid!
Where the Red Fern Grows in 3rd grade. Beverly Cleary and Judy Blum’s Tales of the 4th Grade Nothing. Before that, it was Dr. Suess and Berenstain Bears. I’ve loved reading since I can remember!

My Evil Twin.. I have no idea by who it was the first chapter book I ever read
