Laurie Ross The Science of Interstellar? Yes that’s the movie I’m referring to. That book is written by the physiatrist who assisted the movie director ( Christopher Nolan) with the scientific aspect of the movie. He wrote this book to explain some of the scientific theories presented in the movie. Also, he wrote the book in order to show that the movie does not violate established facts and Knowledge about our universe.
ALL CLEAR by Connie Willis. A group of time travelers in Oxford, England – circa 2060 – end up marooned in Britain in 1940 and face a host of challenges in trying to return to their own time without changing history.
In the Garden of Iden [Book 1 The Company series] by Kage Baker…Kindred by Octavia E Butler…To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis…The House on the Strand by Daphne Du Maurier…The Door Into Summer by Robert A Heinlein…The Disunited States of America: A Novel of Crosstime Traffic by Harry Turtledove…Time Travelers Never Die by Jack McDevitt…
IF I NEVER GET BACK by Darryl Brock. This book is the first in a 2-novel series. Sam Fowler, a news reporter in an unfulfilling job and failing marriage in today’s world, abruptly finds himself transported back to the U.S. in the summer of 1869. After a period of adjustment, Fowler finds his life invigorated by his involvement with the country’s first pro baseball players. He also finds romance, travels out West, and makes the acquaintance of both Jesse James and Mark Twain.
I almost forgot the best of all! It’s a little dated…and a little improbably (it’s time travel!) but Jack Finney’s “Time and Again” and the sequel are both lots of fun, both for history buffs and for time travel fans.
The River of No Return by Bee Ridgway – Just One Damned Thing After Another by Jodi Taylor (that’s the first in a fun series) – and there’s time travel in Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness – but I would recommend reading the first in that trilogy before the second – the first book is A Discovery of Witches.
The Flight of The Horse by Larry Niven. Sven collects animals from the past for a museum in the future where they are all extinct but something goes wrong, often hilariously, with every trip
So I know this is for books but literally (no pun intended) best narrative I’ve seen re:time is this movie called About Time that came out a while ago. I loved it. It definitely tries hard to make you feel but it also makes you think. So good
Good movie, and good sound track. In fact, I heard just a snippet of a song in the background in that movie, hunted it down, and love it. (By the River by Groove Armada)
Time and Again by Jack Finney – When advertising artist Si Morley is recruited to join a covert government operation exploring the possibility of time travel, he jumps at the chance to leave his twentieth-century existence and step into New York City in January 1882. Aside from his thirst for experience, he has good reason to return to the past—his friend Kate has a curious, half-burned letter dated from that year, and he wants to trace the mystery.
But when Si begins to fall in love with a woman he meets in the past, he will be forced to choose between two worlds—
Parts of the book take place in The Dakota Hotel, which still stands in New York City.
Jodi Taylor’s Chronicles of St Mary’s series is good, and it has some humor in it, too. I picked up the first because of the title “Just One Damned Thing After Another”, and just loved it.
Somewhere in Time by Richard Matheson A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court by Mark Twain A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon Karen Marie Moning’s Highlander series Susanna Kearsley has several time travel/historical books 11/22/63 by Stephen King Many Waters by Madeleine L’Engle
Thursday Next Series (by Jasper Fforde 8 primary works • 11 total works Thursday Next is a literary detective who goes inside books from her futuristic time-travel world.
The Chronicles of St Mary’s is a great and at times hilarious series following a group of people doing historical research by time traveling and getting in all kinds of crazy situations
