Beyond amazing. Still one of my all time favorite books. And I absolutely love the series. Diana is amazing. Still cannot find another writer that comes close to her. Maybe Susanna Kearsley.
My daughter and I call that “The poopy book” ? She was up here on holiday and asked for a book to read, so I suggested she’d enjoy that. She was so engrossed in it and had come to a scary point right at the moment I walked into the living room and asked if she wanted a cup of tea – she actually jumped with fright and said “Mum!!! I nearly pooped myself” and we’ve called it that ever since! ??
Fantastic. The entire series is addictive. Slows down in the 3rd or 4th book but then picks up again. History, characters and writing are richly brought to life.
Too much for me. I get bored and confused about the characters. I stopped after about the 4th book. I did enjoy them, just too much time investment and wanted to move on to something else.
Beyond amazingly awesomely epic! Too many adjectives? LOL seriously the best book I’ve read. Hard to read in places, did skim some things, but still 5 stars easily.
I enjoyed the first book but I had some trouble with the Scottish accent and sometimes I was confused on what was going on and had to go back and re read often to figure out what was going on. I’m currently reading the second one and I’m kind of meh with it.
I agree that I hold all other books up them for comparison. Loved it from the first. And the TV series is doing a good job of keeping up. Even with some changes.
I binge read this series and can’t wait for the next one! There were a few eye rolling moments for me but, it’s well worth the time investment to tackle. My favorite series
I agree with Jackie – not a fan at all. I did watch some of the series and liked it but Claire drove me crazy. She’s so selfish. Plus it’s not my typical style of writing so nit surprised that I didn’t like it
Loved the 1st book and couldn’t put it down. Became disinterested within first 100 pages of 2nd book and not read any since. Love you series & Jamie in the buff ?
There is one book that’s a bit slow… think it was The Fiery Cross, but I still enjoyed it,they pick up again. The first is much raunchier than the rest. I liked the fact that they are all quite different… settings etc.
Absolutely LOVED the first 3 books, couldn’t put them down, found Book 4 a tad boring but finished it, Book 5 was just too much – too detailed, too ‘wordy’ and boring – so I gave up. I still bought the rest of the books in the series as they came out, as I thought I would eventually go back to the beginning and start again. It’s about 17years since I gave up on “The Fiery Cross” and I’ve felt no urge to go back and read them, so I think they’ll all be going to the second hand bookshop.
The TV series I am loving and I’m thinking that I won’t find Series 5 as tough as reading the book, so I’ll just follow that 🙂
I read all seven at the time and lived in the 1700 Scotland. Had to wait for book 8 and read when it came out-now waiting for book 9–Love this series as did several of my co-workers.
I enjoyed the Scottish history, but the American history not as much, especially as when it really got to the American part it became more detailed and very ‘wordy’
Eileen Welsh yes I agree.. It almost became an exercise in cramming in history, we’ve had Scotland, France, Jamaica … where can I send them now so I can reveal my knowledge. Such a shame
It’s been years since I read the first four books, which is as far as I cared to read. But as I recall and from watching the few episodes I watched (too brutal for my taste) I think they did follow the books fairly well.
Best books I have ever read – multiple times even- and that’s saying a lot as I am a public librarian. Diana Gabaldon’s writing has spoiled me from enjoying other titles.
Beyond amazing. Still one of my all time favorite books. And I absolutely love the series. Diana is amazing. Still cannot find another writer that comes close to her. Maybe Susanna Kearsley.
Thanks. I just started it and was hoping to get into a page turner!
@Terri I absolutely loved it from page 1. You will fall in love with Claire and Jamie.
Try Sarah Donati, it has a similar vibe and is from the same time period. Still not as good as outlander but definitely enjoyable
@Stephanie watching the series and can’t really get into these two characters
Samantha Kettewell Ive heard that many times. I definitely want to get to her books.
@Theresa stay with it. My sister never read the books but watched the series. It took her a few episodes then she loved it.
Any of Barbara Erskine’s book match up to this. I’ve never given upon on any of her books.
@Eileen I love Barbara Erskine.
Me too! (y) A couple of her books haven’t held me enthralled, but the rest certainly have!! I’ve just started her latest book (y)
@Eileen I loved house of Echoes.

@Eileen it was very scary. I love haunted house stories and that was one of the best.
It ruined all other books for me I compare every book I read to it. Be warned though you have to get aprox 50+ pages in don’t put it down.
Yes I get so sleepy right now. Thanks!
I’d say more like 100-150 then I was hooked.
Agree on it ruining all other books!! It’s soooooo good!
Unpopular opinion here: I disliked it a lot. I couldn’t stand the main character. Gave up about 1.5 books into the series.
My favorite series ever!!!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE
Meh…
I excited now!!?
Fantastic. The entire series is addictive. Slows down in the 3rd or 4th book but then picks up again.
History, characters and writing are richly brought to life.
Just my favourite ever!
Too much for me. I get bored and confused about the characters. I stopped after about the 4th book. I did enjoy them, just too much time investment and wanted to move on to something else.
Just started my re read of book 1. Last time I read it, it was 16 years ago
I’m currently reading book 1. I had a hard time in the beginning and don’t get really into it until Part 2. Now in Part 3 I’m in love!!
My favorite. Two things I love…Historical fiction and time travel.
Beyond amazingly awesomely epic! Too many adjectives? LOL seriously the best book I’ve read. Hard to read in places, did skim some things, but still 5 stars easily.
Liked the first book, second book dragged, third book was a bit better than the second, loved the fourth book, the rest I like better than the second.
Love historical fiction/fantasy/romance, so am a big fan and she puts so much effort into the details. They are worth the read if you like that genre
Well worth the time it takes to read all 8 books! It does get slow in parts but keep going because you’ll love them.
I enjoyed the first book but I had some trouble with the Scottish accent and sometimes I was confused on what was going on and had to go back and re read often to figure out what was going on. I’m currently reading the second one and I’m kind of meh with it.
Favorite series ever!!!

Absolutely loved the series. My favorite of all time. I’ve yet to find another author whose books I enjoy more.
Not a fan, I don’t enjoy books where women are preyed ipon this way.
I couldn’t get past the third one but I couldn’t put down the first two
I binge read this series and can’t wait for the next one! There were a few eye rolling moments for me but, it’s well worth the time investment to tackle. My favorite series
There are two kinds of people in the world. Those who love Outlander and drink whisky and those who don’t…
Had a very hard time after book two. I still am trying to finish book three, pick it up from time to time. I know many individuals love the series.
Not a fan read two or three books and not my cup of tea!
Best series I’ve ever read, absolutely enthralled ❤️
Liked the first 3 books. Hated the 4th and it’s as far as I’ve got.
The 4th I found was harder going and to be fair book 5 but the rest I really enjoyed x
I got through 4, but gave upon on 5 🙂
Love ❤️
Me too
Love the whole series!!
Best I have ever read ❤️??????????
I agree with Jackie – not a fan at all. I did watch some of the series and liked it but Claire drove me crazy. She’s so selfish. Plus it’s not my typical style of writing so nit surprised that I didn’t like it
One of my favorite series of all time!!
Loved the 1st book and couldn’t put it down. Became disinterested within first 100 pages of 2nd book and not read any since. Love you series & Jamie in the buff ?
I’m just about to start the last book ?. Started series mid May… I’m going to miss them when it’s finished ?
There is one book that’s a bit slow… think it was The Fiery Cross, but I still enjoyed it,they pick up again. The first is much raunchier than the rest. I liked the fact that they are all quite different… settings etc.
Couldnt get in to it. But only tried. Few pages. Wanting to try again as so many people love it.
I have read the first book, because everyone was raving about it, it is way too slow for my taste.
Surprisingly addictive, did not think it would be my cup of tea, but it sure was!!!
I loved it
Boring. And the plot is ridiculous
She is kidnapped, Jamie saves her …..he is kidnapped Claire rescues him. Time and time again.
@Barbara sums it up pretty well.
Loved it
Loved it, but it went on for far too long, so never finished the series
Re reading it now – wonderful book – totally lost in it – about to spend 4 hours on a plane with it!!! X
One of my favorites <3
My favourite book series ever in my nearly 70 years
Wasn’t for me ?
LOVE IT!
We spell our names the same ☺️
@Kellie pretty rare! ?
I know! I always get so excited when I see it lol
Absolutely amazing! Just finished book 3 ?
Favorite!!!! Amazing and the books are so long, they last awhile
My favorite book series of all time. I’ve reread it multiple times, can’t get enough ?
Great books!
Love the show and the books!
Absolutely LOVED the first 3 books, couldn’t put them down, found Book 4 a tad boring but finished it, Book 5 was just too much – too detailed, too ‘wordy’ and boring – so I gave up. Love love love.
I really liked it, but quit reading the first 2 times. I’ve since read he while thing and the next 6 in the series.
I read all seven at the time and lived in the 1700 Scotland. Had to wait for book 8 and read when it came out-now waiting for book 9–Love this series as did several of my co-workers.
Uh-mazing! 🙂
Love
Fantastic wanted the books after watching series one on tv hooked
This series is going to be my fall read!!
First two or three books were good after that, a lot of padding and too much boring description.
Exactly how I felt. I found the 2nd book with almost all the action in Paris was a tad boring, book 5 too much padding!
I enjoyed the history and the medicine, romance was over the top.
Love it!
Love love love the books
Favourite ever found the 5th book bit was dragging but can understand why and I must confess im in love with Jamie ?❤️?
Who isn’t! Although I love Murtagh too ?
I’ll be thanking ya for taking your hands off my wife
@Paula yes me too x
No. Too much whipping and torture and rape
A highly enjoyable journey!! ??
Ruined me for any other book, I just keep re-reading the entire series over and over!! It’s amazing
I loved the whole series!
Series is incredible. My partner is reading the books currently
Love love love it all… and for once the series matches, (in part because Jamie Fraser is so well cast…. yum ;))
Fantastic
Love
❤️ ❤️❤️❤️❤️
So I started watching the show and never read the books. Do the show follow the books pretty closely?
Yes — quite well, for the most part.
But like almost anything… the books are so much more! Reading them all back to back is like going on an epic adventure
Adore it!!
It’s been years since I read the first four books, which is as far as I cared to read. But as I recall and from watching the few episodes I watched (too brutal for my taste) I think they did follow the books fairly well.

I really like her books, but I have to gear up to read them. They’re sooooooooooo long!
????
My Grama has read those books through so many times. I still have it on my TBR shelf. One of these days …
I have read the first four 5-6 times.
My favorite
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Loved it!
I did find the 5th book stilted and harder to love so I stopped with it. I still have the whole set. Maybe someday…
Last half of book 5 gets better and book 6 is awesome. FYI…
Hated the first one. Never read another one.
Not my genre!
