I only slightly agree with that premise. We are drawn to books that connect to our core personality, and help us to understand more of ourselves. But in addition to that, full-hearted readers are at the same time drawn to books that expand our connection to a multitude of ways of thinking and being, and help us to evolve ourselves and appreciate others and the world around us more deeply.
I can’t. I am many people. 🙂
@Karen Like – I contain multitudes, right? 😀
For me it’s The Gift of Rain by Tan Twan Eng. I strongly identify with the protagonist.
There is not one single book that defines me but there are many that capture various aspects of my (complex!) personality ?
Asking a lot of just one book!! Haha
So many, shell seekers by rosamund pilcher, just give me a beautiful house, garden and wine.

Nope. Books do not define me. I’m not afraid of ideas so I may read books that challenge me in various ways.
I often read books outside of my comfort zone or that I may not agree with just to see a differing perspective so…
I think you can tell a lot about a person by what he/she reads, but one book doesn’t define someone.
Yes, that’s what I should have said.

Actually you have that a little mixed up. The saying is: if you want to know the character of a man, look at the BOOKS in his library
