Excellent Book! I taught it in literature and realized the students not only loved it but took on current issues with critical thinking and compassion.
If you enjoyed reading about immigrant experiences in America, I cannot recommend enough “Zeitoun” by Dave Eggers. Its a nonfiction account of a Syrian man, his American-born family, and their very different experiences in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina
I loved The Tortilla Curtain. It was especially meaningful because I lived in the San Fernando Valley in SoCal when I read it. I could easily visualize the scenes in the book.
I was surprised by the ending too… it didn’t really resolve anything but left us hanging (figuratively and the characters literally)… but I think that is part of what is important about the book. Life doesn’t always have neat and tidy conclusions, sometimes there is more work to be done. The ending leaves the reader thinking about the possibilities.

My book club had an excellent discussion of that book. ❤

I think Tortilla Curtain is one of my favorites.
Tortilla Curtain is a great book. Should be required reading for everyone who needs to be enlightened on the subject.
It’s on it’s way to my library for me for my hold. Looking forward to reading it.

Read it years ago and I just bought it again. So good!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and living in Southern California brought it much closer to home. Recommend highly regardless of where you live.
I read it many years ago and still remember so much of it. Especially now in these times.

This book teaches you to look at both sides of racism. I loved it.
Wonderfully human book and certainly indicative of the times in which we are grudgingly enduring.
