James Herbert is my fav horror author. I didn’t think The Rats would freak me out as much as it did that’s a good one. The secret of crickely Hall is a very good book too
Intensity by Dean Koontz Ghost Story by Peter Straub Mirror by Graham Masterton Amityville Horror by Jay Anson The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty And Origin by Jack Kilborn (aka J.A. Konrath)
The Shining was more scarier for my by the fact that I was working Night Security at the Mount Washington Hotel, that had a lot of similarities to the hotel in the shining.
A book of scary stories that I read as a kid. It was for upper elementary school ages but the stories were very dark and horrible deaths happened in them. Definitely shouldn’t of been for kids.
I’m reading The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson right now (first time ever!) and it is scaring the bajeezus out of me even in broad daylight! Other than that, Pet Sematary, when it originally came out. I slept downstairs on the couch w/the lights on for weeks after reading.

@Lynsey – I had to put The Rats down as it made me feel sick! I do like James Herbert but found that one too much x
It was a tough one I really did think it would freak me out as much as it did. I nearly put it down after a horrible part near the beginning
The Other by Thomas Tryon. Amazing (and underrated) author.
Forgotten about him, didn’t he write Harvest Home as well, or am I thinking of the wrong author? That was pretty spooky too.
