I just read the most hilarious thing about the exorcist book earlier today, I wish I could find it. I’ll do my best to recreate it. : “So my mom said the exorcist was the scariest book she had ever read. She didn’t even finish it, before she took it out to the ocean and threw it in to get rid of it. I went and bought a new copy, ran it under the faucet, and placed it on her bedside table. My dad told me that night she shrieked and passed out. I’m going to hell for this I know, but I couldn’t help it!”
The Shining, but it was more the context than anything – alone in a very old large French town house, over the weekend with all other residents away, and freezing cold so reading huddled up in my quilt around the tiniest bit of heat coming from the radiator. Scared myself silly!
Horror books don’t really scare me. I find a well written book about people hiding from the Nazi’s in world 2 scares me. If the author really makes you care about the characters you feel the tension.
Exorcist.
