The cover can and has played a role in what I buy, but most of the time I’m looking for a specific book or author. I have made the occasional purchase due to an amazing cover, but it still has to have a story in which I’m interested. One thing that amazes me, though, is how little control authors have over the covers for their books. I don’t understand why authors don’t cast the deciding vote. I’m aware that marketing people know what sells and appeals to consumers, but books are personal to the author, like their babies.
You know, that surprises me too. Especially ‘established’ authors. And if I buy for the cover, it’s usually something I’ve read and loved. My daughter collects the Harry Potter sets, she has a couple full sets and is working on getting others. Guess the apple doesn’t fall far lol
Not usually but I do look out for certain covers if that makes sense, I have a copy of ‘we have always lived in the castle’ by Shirley Jackson, the copy I have is on the left side, one I look out for is on the right side x
@Paula, I know that our library has the cover on the right, the ones with both girls on the cover. Is that the one you want? I can try to get that one for you if it is and you want me to. We could exchange a Harry Potter British cover for it.

LOL, Paula. I think your daughter is one amazing apple. I’m so envious of her Harry Potter sets. Does she have any of the British covers?
Yes she does! I have a friend there who found a bunch in a thrift shop and sent them over 😀
I have now turned completely green, Paula. I would love to have a British set.
I believe she has parts of two sets…one hard & one soft…will check with her lol
Send me a pic.
Her British hardcover set
Regular British soft cover set…missing a couple still
Black and white British soft cover set…still missing couple from here too
How do I get these? I need a friend in England or maybe Scotland, @Paula?
It’s the synopsis that sells me on the back cover, or I open it up and if I can get into the story in the first few pages.
Yes. I admit it.
Sorry @Kathy I just saw this, I will keep a wee eye out x

That’s funny, the one on the right is the only one that I’ve seen. I have a brand new copy of it myself 😀
Sounds good, Paula, There’s no rush.
@Kathy That would be fab but I can’t at the moment, I’m not working, so money is tight but once I am working, I will most definitely get HP x
