All Things Bright and Beautiful is non, I’d say. Maybe embellished a little, but the man did live and his patients were real… Although names were changed blah blah blah etc (:P) In one of his author notes, he says that Tricky Woo’s “mommy” was one of the few people to recognize herself in his books. James Herriot’s real name is James Alfred Wight. I’ve got a book by his son floating around here somewhere… Maybe buried on my to be read pile??
Quite a fantastic read. I was disappointed to learn years after reading it though that not all of it is fact. And the problem is we don’t know how much is real and how much was the author’s invention.
I’m sorting my library by genre. How the West was Won and All Things Bright and Beautiful are making me scratch my head.

@Cindy I’d definitely put it under nonfiction, but is it just nonfiction or do I tuck it in with the literature? =)
*shrugs* I define everything I read as literature. Taking the broadest definition of the word 😉
The books by the guy who wrote The Devil in the White City.
Three Cups of Tea was supposedly nonfiction, a type of memoir, but it was later discovered that it was heavily embellished.
Any good? I bought it a while ago and been in my tbr ever since.

The Girls? Obviously fiction but all the characters from the Manson cult are there (with name changes) including the member of a well known band.
Cider with Rosie
Kindred, Octavia Butler
I would think the adventures of huckleberry Finn because of the time frame the story takes place in and how people were treated back then.
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
The Color Purple was based on life story. There was a big scandal over Memoirs of a Geisha when it came out.
The Executioner’s Song by Norman Mailer is usually referred to a as non fiction novel . It’s one of my favorites
I need to read some Mailer – I have meant to get around to him forever?
The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd
Lolita
I Was Anastasia by Ariel Lawhon is definitely fiction but there’s quite a bit of history and fact in it…. it feels so real sometimes while reading.
Crank by Ellen Hopkins
In Cold Blood by Truman Capote was introduced to my class as faction – a hybrid of fact and fiction due to the level of accuracy Capote put into it.
