So THIS is heating up… I have to admit sneak peaking while at work? It is keeping you wondering which one of these dysfunctional people did this awful crime…. Same person did both or different perpetrator each murder?
Keegan O’Keefe Salfiti haha! I’ve been married for 42 years and year’s ago my husband’s mother entrusted me with a family “secret” and asked me not to share it with anyone else in the family. I felt awful about it, but I kept her confidence until after she died. I understood her reasoning, but it was an uncomfortable feeling. When I finally told the family, they (including my husband) were pretty shocked but were grateful for honoring Mom’s request…
@Michele Wow! That’s a horrible/noble/incredibly awesome thing you were able to do. My marriage at 13 years is a lot younger than yours, but for me the lies Jack kept probably would’ve been a marriage ender for me.
@Keegan may very well have been for me too. It’s different when it’s your husband, and Jack is really driving me crazy. I’m trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, but….
More than once it has crossed my mind that Jack has deceived Sarah, whatever the reason, his holding back on the truth to his wife raises a lot of doubt on his character. That completely crazy behavior of Amy and Dean is also questionable. Totally dysfunctional the whole lot! Secrets and lies everywhere, enjoy!
Thérèse Gauthier it also makes me wonder about the fact that everyone has some skeletons in their cupboards. Maybe not as bizarre and maybe not even tangible but in our hearts and minds they are tucked away, the demons that are kept so carefully hidden. Jacks character made me think about this …
What is up with all the secrecy? ? And what about that scene with Dean and Celia? ? ugghh can’t wait until I get home so I can read more. Work gets in the way of my reading ? the nerve! ?
Jack seems messed up, but it seems like there’s something deeper going on with him – like maybe some kind of trauma? These weird things keep popping up in sort of accidental ways and I just don’t feel like Jack is completely responsible. There’s got to be someone else involved here…
Does it bother anyone else that Sarah shows up for first time, out of nowhere, nobody knows her, but everybody is ok telling her things that haven’t been talked about for years. Not only that, but she’s putting other people (Margaret & Katherine) in danger by asking them to do things that could put them in potential personal or legal harm. In the course of Sarah’s “investigation” (and I use that term loosely) she is now keeping a lot if secrets of her own, making her just as culpable as the rest of them.
@Michele I thought the same, all these helpful people who have just met Sarah, do you think the town know more than they can or want to admit to & because of the death of Julia want to see justice for both murders, I know it’s a reach but you never know??
I am on Chapter 9. Dean keeps pointing fingers at Amy. Amy now seems to be the only one admitting that there is something terribly wrong with the family. She refused an attorney, but so far has not pointed a finger at anyone in particular. I think Sarah is just a wimp, has suspicions (and rightfully so), but willing to keep quiet about what little she knows about the family and their relationships with each other. Could be the same with Celia (?). OH… and we can’t forget about the mysterious emails to Sarah about the 3 blind mice, then 2 blind mice… another death soon to come (?) leaving one blind mouse…. continuing…
I don’t think it’s Dean, he may be a big ass*ole, but I don’t think he’s a murderer; besides, it would seem too obvious at this point ?. I’m also betting Hal has a secret or two hidden…there was mention of her being too flirty…maybe she had a little fling with Hal?. (I realize most of you already know the answer and are way further ahead lol)
@Paula ?baaahaahaaahaaa! Evil laugh ? it’s not who you think it is. I thought the same and had so many questions through out the book. Definitely had me guessing to the very end! I really enjoyed this book.
Ooooh, I have another theory! This one involves Margaret Dooley! I’ll say no more at the moment but for the love of god don’t confirm or deny my theories! ??
So THIS is heating up…
I have to admit sneak peaking while at work?
It is keeping you wondering which one of these dysfunctional people did this awful crime….
Same person did both or different perpetrator each murder?
Any feels at this point? Except wanting to put Jack through a wall?
I’m just befuddled at how he could live with all the things he lied about for so long. The guilt of lying would drive me crazy
@Laura right you can never trust him
Keegan O’Keefe Salfiti but I keep feeling that there’s something else going on that’s forced him to not talk about any of it…
@Michele sure but what if he was your husband????

@Michele now I wanna know that secret too hehe
@Laura ?
@Michele

@Sona exactly!
Thérèse Gauthier it also makes me wonder about the fact that everyone has some skeletons in their cupboards. Maybe not as bizarre and maybe not even tangible but in our hearts and minds they are tucked away, the demons that are kept so carefully hidden. Jacks character made me think about this …
@Sona I agree Sona, I think the whole family is hiding something, the fact that Jack has kept so many secrets from his wife, to me, is quite sinister?
I agree @Sona, I think everyone has some sort of secret, or maybe not secret, but odd/peculiar or otherwise in their past or their family.
Er. …..what are you talking about ladies…I think I need to read it lol..
@Janet The group read – Missing Pieces
What is up with all the secrecy? ? And what about that scene with Dean and Celia? ? ugghh can’t wait until I get home so I can read more. Work gets in the way of my reading ? the nerve! ?
Exactly, I can’t wait to read more!
Just started chapter 8?
@Paula, me too!
I’m starting chapter 10, Sarah has the big envelope!?
I read that last night…I’m very behind!
Jack seems messed up, but it seems like there’s something deeper going on with him – like maybe some kind of trauma? These weird things keep popping up in sort of accidental ways and I just don’t feel like Jack is completely responsible. There’s got to be someone else involved here…
Why would Amy kill her aunt that she loves dearly? It just doesn’t add up! Dean and Celia seem suspect but why would Dean kill his mother? Hmmm ??
@Patricia, I wonder, but she has some major major issues.
I keep coming back to how there is a path between both houses, so anyone could sneak into either houses?
@Paula I agree Paula. That’s been mentioned twice now, which makes me think that it’s somehow involved.
I hadn’t thought of that.
I caught that too about the path…very convenient

@Michele I thought of that too, I mean Margaret really went out of the way taking steps that could jeopardize her own job
@Michele I thought the same, all these helpful people who have just met Sarah, do you think the town know more than they can or want to admit to & because of the death of Julia want to see justice for both murders, I know it’s a reach but you never know??
@Michele ps ~ I have no problem with helpful people but they seem really helpful about legal matters with a woman they just met?
Maybe they just figured she already knew at least pieces of the story. Plus, it’s a small town.

@Patricia don’t say that!! tell me nothing!! LOL
@Paula ? ok my lips are sealed ???
Ooooh, I have another theory! This one involves Margaret Dooley! I’ll say no more at the moment but for the love of god don’t confirm or deny my theories! ??
I was thinking more about the fling too since there was so much mention about the field and cutting straight to the houses
