Michele Mackin Berggren The death of Jack’s mom. The back cover said she was found dead in their cellar I think, and the prologue goes into more detail about that, but Chapter 1 said both of his parents died in a car crash…that his dad was driving drunk.
Sometimes it’s confusing when you’re first getting introduced to the characters. I try to create a little mnemonic for each character when there are a lot of them in the first couple of chapters. I’ve also stopped reading reviews or jacket/book covers before starting a book.
I’m at chapter 3 right now. Yeah.. it is kinda fishy, that relationship betw. Sarah and Jack. I don’t trust him. *suspiciously eyeing the guy * They’re together for more than 20 years and he never talked about his parents etc.?! Would drive me nuts, it would!
It definitely is a family of secrets! Well written in that I keep changing my mind about who REALLY has the issues! I love a book that plays with your thought process from chapter to chapter. I’m just finishing chapter 13 (after re-reading 1-6) and if you’re hoping for answers by then- keep hoping and keep reading!!?
Just a thought. Since we will be having a group discussion with Ms. Gudenkauf after we’ve finished, I started a page of notes regarding plot, characters, etc. that I would just like to discuss and/or get her thoughts on. (I’m sure the librarian will appreciate my not marking up their book!!)
I am almost done so won’t give out spoilers, had me glued and created the right amount of suspense and intrigue about the characters. The read is rightly paced as well, I have read this genre after quite a while and enjoyed it. I guess more on the details when we discuss.
@Michele Thanks, I’ll get it next day. So I won’t be in this discussion about the book you all are talking about. But that’s ok. another good book to read after I finish this one. 🙂
Clara Lewis Hope you are able to get Missing Pieces and participate in the group read. Do you have any bookshops that loan out books! We have a local shop that loans out popular books at $4.00 for 5 days!
Just finished the prologue & first chapter. I could easily read it from cover to cover in one sitting. However, I’m at work, lunch break almost over. I’m very engaged, intrigued & curious. I think I’ve gathered that Jack in Chapter 1 is the 15-yr old Jack in the prologue. But for a minute I kept flipping back and forth to try to follow the names. Now I can’t hardly wait until my afternoon break to maybe squeeze in chapter 2.
@Laura I thought that too, far too quick to blame Amy plus I know it was a family catch up but he seemed really keen to tell Jack how Amy had been acting, was it really the best time to talk about her losing her job, etc?, I think there is a bit of jealousy with Dean, resentful of Amy, maybe Jack? Sorry if I’m not making sense☺️
I’m on chapter 14, and I’m wondering if anyone else finds it odd that Sarah is going to such peculiar lengths (maybe even illegal) in order to figure out Jack’s part in all of this? It seems like she’s kind of making things worse by involving Katherine and Margaret. They could be in danger by helping her.
@Laura This bothered me too. They had never met this woman, but were willing to do things that were potentially dangerous and/or illegal to help her? WTF?
@Paula aye, Jack ripped my knitting, have more faith in your wife dude! Did he really think he could keep it secret, well, he did for twenty years plus, so aye, he could keep a secret☺️?
Just finished chapter 6… Amy and Jack both have secrets. Neither is likable, but I’m guessing they share a common knowledge about their mother’s death. Same with Jack’s old flame, Celia. Throughout these first chapters, Jack is being “followed” by his dead father. Intrigue!
So who has actually started the book and what do you think so far??
I’m about 25% in! I’m enjoying it. Anxiously waiting for lunch break to find out what happens next!
I finished! Couldn’t put it down.
I’m on Chapter 2, and I’m completely confused already! Haha I am enjoying it though!
@Amy what’s confusing you?
I did have to go back to get all the names straight haha

@Amy keep reading…?
Annnddd that’s why I don’t read the jacket.
@Laura in this case, it was a prologue….

@Michele I think I will stop reading jackets/covers/reviews as well as prologues.
@Amy as a side note, I read the back of a book once and it told me about a murder. That happened 125 pages in… so I stopped haha
@Laura ??? Oh I’m definitely not reading those anymore! Lol
Loving it! Sneaking chapters where I can ?
More thoughts this evening
I’m past chapter six I think. It’s quite engaging. I’m kind of cringing at all the stuff he kept from her so far lol
I’m like, “yikes”.
@Christian Yes me too! They are pretty big things to keep from your spouse! ?
@Amy that’s what I kept thinking ?
Not heard of this one what’s it about?
if you pop it into the search bar there’s loads of posts about it 🙂
At chapter 5 very much confused now back to reading it can’t put it down

@Antonella I’m on same chapter and thought the same. ??
@Antonella I’m starting to feel the same way after getting into chapter 3. ?
I’m a few chapters in??

@Michele The title of this book is spot on! Haha
@Amy ?

I just ordered this book from Library. Anyway, now reading Sarah’s Key. Can’t put it down. Happy reading you all!
@Clara Sarah’s Key was a page burner for certain❤️❤️❤️
@Clara Hope you don’t have to wait too long for Missing Pieces. You’re going to love it!
@Michele Thanks, I’ll get it next day. So I won’t be in this discussion about the book you all are talking about. But that’s ok. another good book to read after I finish this one. 🙂
@Clara if you get it in the next few days, you’ll have plenty of time to get in on the discussion!
@Michele OK!
Clara Lewis it moves quickly and is a bit spine tingling too
Good. I’ve been in a good book slump for a bit. I’m reading a great book now. Looking forward to this one. Love this site!!!!
A friend just lent me Sarah’s Key. Am looking forward to reading it.

I got it today from the Library, will start it Saturday. 🙂
@Clara Great!
On Chapter 5, and I’m not liking Jack at the moment! ?
@Amy yes it’s terribly annoying right? Keep going just gets more interesting ?
Amy Sowders I find Jack frustrating, get it together dude!?
Just finished the prologue & first chapter. I could easily read it from cover to cover in one sitting. However, I’m at work, lunch break almost over. I’m very engaged, intrigued & curious. I really think this is one of my favorite kind of books, a thriller that I can’t quite figure out…at least yet.
I’m going to start tonight.
I snuck in chapter 2 during my break. And I might be able to finish chapter 3 before I leave work for home (not busy at work right now).
@Dodi How do you like it?
So far, so good. I didn’t get to chapter 3 yet.
I’m enjoying it so far, so many secrets, is it just me or is Dean, an odd dude??
@Paula I didn’t think he was weird or odd until I started Chapter 6. It’s getting really good now!!!! ?
Amy Sowders same here Amy, it’s the way he reacts to everything & he’s got it in for Amy as well xx
Yeah he has no issue being like, yup, it was Amy. Chill bro
I was surprised how quickly everyone was jumping on board with helping her too
@Laura This bothered me too. They had never met this woman, but were willing to do things that were potentially dangerous and/or illegal to help her? WTF?
I’m only on chapter 8, but so far I don’t find it odd at all. I mean so many major things Jack hasn’t told her after all these years… wow!
Read the first 6 chapters last night. I like how this is going so far!
Did anyone else have this error in Chapter 6? *I did not write in this library book.*
@Lorrea I just checked my copy, I don’t have the error??
@Lorrea I don’t have if either!
Mine doesn’t have it.
Jack is already getting on my nerves ?
@Paula so soon? (Sarcasm)
@Paula aye, Jack ripped my knitting, have more faith in your wife dude! Did he really think he could keep it secret, well, he did for twenty years plus, so aye, he could keep a secret☺️?

@Darlene none of the characters are likable so far lol. But I’m definitely enjoying it!
