Absolutely! That book is so profound, in my opinion, that I think someone of any age will get something from it.
It’s actually one of my favorite books, and I tend to give it a re-read every year or so. Depending on what’s going on in my life at the time, I always seem to get new meanings out of it.
That book is appropriate for any age. It was read to me as a child and I have read it many many times since then, and now to my children. It’s a favorite ?
@Dannyel, your question makes more sense now, knowing you are the teen. 🙂 I would say that kids, teens, and adults would all enjoy this book, but probably all for different reasons.
I hope you enjoy it. It is a quick read. If you started it when you posted earlier, you may already have finished by now. ?
I’ve read this book over and over throughout my life – most recently in my late 30’s. Each time I bring new experiences to it and I’ve found it interesting to reflect on how my interpretation has changed over the years and look forward to reading it again in the future. Hope you enjoy it 🙂
@Nikhaylah I’m planning on re-reading a lot of books I read as a kid or in HS. I’m in my 30’s too, having a little life experience really changes things!
Sherri, guess he thinks it may be too juvenile? (I thought it may have been a question of appropriateness which is why I wondered about the question.) Anyhow, good opp to introduce classics and the lesson that many appeal to and are great for all age groups.
Read whatever you feel like reading. I am 61 years old and still enjoy new picture books or toddler books or young readers of beginning chapter books above and beyond. A book is something to be cherished no matter what age level of genre. Just read whatever you enjoy!
I’m curious why you would think it wouldn’t be ok? It’s a wonderful story, and I think people of all ages – kids, teens, adults – can find something wonderful in the story.
@Dannyel, there are so many books that I, as an adult, have really enjoyed, even though they were written for children. The best children’s books have profound takeaways for every age. So, read it now and then read it again in twenty years. You’ll get something different from it each time!
I’m curious as to why someone would think it would not be. As @Cynthia wrote, there are many books that were aimed at children that also have lessons for adults. I have given away many copies of “The Missing Piece Meets the Big O” to adult friends.
What’s wonderful about good children’s literature is that it can still be thoroughly enjoyed by adults. I am actually considering taking the first half of next year to only read middle reader books! There are so many I missed as a child and am interested in reading them before my children do ? Happy reading!!!

Yes!
Yes
Yes!
It was required reading in high school French when I was a kid, so I also say yes.
That was when I first read it as well.
I read it my first time as a teen. Highly recommended for teens.
I have a 6th grade student who is reading it right now and he is really enjoying it.
Yes! It is a wonderful story.
Of course, why not?
Yes!
Absolutely! It was my teen son’s favorite book clear through college!
why wouldnt it be?
Absolutely!!!

I read it in both Spanish and French classes in high school
Completely yes. My sister read it to me when I was 9 and I read it in French and English freshman year in high school.
Yep.
I read it when I was like 7
Of course. Are you really screening what your teen is reading?
@Rock actually sir, I am that ‘teen’ myself
some people say that only a child would read that, that’s why I posted this question to view your guys thought about it 🙂
It was a mandatory book in college for me…..it has many layers.

@Dannyel Oh. I stand corrected. I read it as a child, then in college, then again in my 40s. Each was a different experience.
@Rock maybe because we grown-up and our ideologies change as time flew
@Dannyel How generous of you to assume that I have to any degree grown up. My wife of 36 years disagrees!
Im really Sorry Sir, my bad
I was in the 3rd or 4th grade when I read it
Don’t understand why this is a question.
@Diana because he is a teen and wants to know if he should read it
Sherri, guess he thinks it may be too juvenile? (I thought it may have been a question of appropriateness which is why I wondered about the question.) Anyhow, good opp to introduce classics and the lesson that many appeal to and are great for all age groups.

I had to read it junior year of French class.
Of course! An older child or adult will take away something very different than a young child will.
Absolutely!
I used it with my 7th graders. Each one created a watercolor of a scene in the book. I treasure it.?
Absolutely.. often gift and read with before middle school readers.. bilingual students also have it in their classes..
Any age, you will find more meanings as you reread through the years
I have read it in 4 languages so far and multiple times over the years. I am 45.
Yes. I’m 33 and have yet to read it. My favorite books are children’s and young adult.
Yes definitely, my son and daughter enjoyed it very much?
Definately.
What are you concerned about re: this book?
I’m curious why you would think it wouldn’t be ok? It’s a wonderful story, and I think people of all ages – kids, teens, adults – can find something wonderful in the story.
@Elaine Dannyel is a teen and was wondering if it was maybe too young for them ?.
@Bron that makes sense! I didn’t see the earlier comments. 🙂
I read it first as a teen and then once every couple of years since. I’m 32. I’m planning to keep doing that 🙂 It just gets better as you get older.

I read it with my Grade 5 class. I first read it in Grade 8. I still get something new from it every time I read it. So I’d say tes

It’s okay for teens to read anything they want to.

Good for you! Let us know if you want any recommendations.
@Maryalis I’ll post for suggestions for sure
I fell in love with that book in high school.
