Yes I love that he eventually returned to farm in Kentucky although Wallace Stegner (if I understand this correctly) wanted him to stay at Stanford after attending a writer’s conference which included Ernest Gaines and Larry McMurty among the attendees.
The Peace of Wild Things BY WENDELL BERRY, SPECIAL CONTRIBUTOR When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds. I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief. I come into the presence of still water. And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
Be sure to read Ky author Silas House, Clays Quilt, Parchment of Leaves, Coal Tattoo, He has others. One just came out called Southernmost. I haven’t read yet but have ordered it. And I really want to read David Joy but haven’t yet.
The best Kentucky author??Great concept for book groups to read different genres then share most meaningful passages!
