I second this! I just finished it this week. It was great.
News of the World is great!
Michener’ Texas is a wonderful book, as are all of his.
I’m currently reading Hecho en Tejas: An Anthology of Texas Mexican Literature by Dagoberto Gilb
Yep…Michener but it is like 900 pages ?
Larry McMurtry
Giant by Edna Ferber is wonderful
Roses by Leila Meacham
My favorite book!!
Have you read Somerset???
Loved it too! I really enjoy her writing.
Texas by James Michener.
News of the World by Paulette Jiles
Lonesome Dove.
One of my favorite series ever!
YES! Out of Darkness is outstanding. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25256386-out-of-darkness
An oldie but goodie is Giant by Edna Ferber. James Mitchner also wrote a thick historical saga
Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry and News of the World by Paulette Jiles…
I loved Lo esome Dove!!!!
@Sandra Didn’t think I liked westerners but loved the whole series and the TV series as well!
“The News of the World” is one of my favorites ~ I’ve recommended it to everyone and given several copies as gifts.
Try “ The Winter family “ by Clifford Jackman, and “The Son” by Philipp Meyer. The Jackman novel is on of the weirdest ones I’ve read in a while.???
Silent We Stood, by Henry Chappell
I’ve read Michener’s and have it on my shelf to reread, but it would be backbreaking to carry it everywhere I usually read. ? I also read Lonesome Dove years ago. Maybe time to reread it as well.
Thanks for these great suggestions.
ROSES! By Lelia Meacham. Then Somerset by the same author. Roses by far is my all time favorite book have read it several times!
The Son by Philipp Meyer.
