Meljean Brook’s Iron Seas series. Each book has a complete story, so they’re more connected, than serial. (Some of them do have characters that have been in earlier books.) You can read The Iron Duke, and most of the others, without reading all the connected books. I would definitely read The Iron Duke, first, though. Bec McMaster is good, too.
I like the souless series too, it’s lot’s of fun. Recently I really enjoyed ‘The Aeronaut’s Windlass’ by Jim Butcher, but it’s the start of a new series too sorry!
To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis. If you’ve ever read Jerome K. Jerome’s Three Men in a Boat (to Say Nothing of the Dog), you’ll appreciate the title.
Cherie Priest is pretty good and most of hers are one offs. I too love the Parasol Protectorate books by Gail Carriger and Kate Locke wrote a rather good trilogy, from memory the first one was God save the Queen.
I’ve only read one set of Steampunk books and it’s a series… I know you’re not looking for a series right now but gonna throw it out there anyway because it’s awesome… Burton and Swinburne Series by Mark Hodder
Following!
The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare. Okay, actually it’s a trilogy, but it’s totally worth reading. <3
Try China Miéville’s Perdido Street Station – and the following two in the trilogy – or Railsea. Or – with a similar name – Railhead by Phillip Reeve.
Miéville’s trilogy is genuinely three standalone novels only tangentially connected

Had never heard of steampunk before! New sub-genre!
There’s a list steam punk authors on Wikipedia, but I haven’t read any of the books listed. Maybe I should try it!
To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis. If you’ve ever read Jerome K. Jerome’s Three Men in a Boat (to Say Nothing of the Dog), you’ll appreciate the title.
I love this book but never thought of it as steampunk before! Ps- I also read three men in a boat
I read … Three Men in a Boat …. really good … much enjoyed….
I’ve read other books by Connie Willis and China Miéville, but not steampunk, as far as I know.
The Prestige, by Christopher Priest, and The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers.
Try early HG Wells, Jules Verne, and Conan Doyle’s The Lost World
Perdido Street Station by China Miéville.

Steam punk meanings?
Thank you
Read the classic: The Difference Engine, by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling.
The Night Circus could maybe fall close to this genre.
Had forgotten what a wonderful book The Night Circus is. Highly recommended.
Authors I really recommend: Cherie Priest, Doc Coleman, Tee Morris & Philippa/Pip Balentine (together and independently), Philip Pullman
Almost any William Gibson book. James Blaylock is also very good. Some of Michael Moorcock’s books.
Not gonna lie, this old lady had to Google the meaning of steampunk! ??
I had no idea what it meant either
? Glad your on this page Mary. I get so many good book suggestions from here.
Had to ask my son what steampunk is. New one for me but may have to pick one up and give it a try.
The Watchmaker of Filigree Street by Natasha Pulley might be something you’d like. It’s got some elements to it.
Clockwork Dynasty might be considered steampunk. Anyway it was good.
Railsea
Clockwork Fairy Tales
The Night Circus kind of has that feel..
did nobody else think of howl’s moving castle?
Try Dahlquist’s The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters and its 2 sequels.
Unnatural history.
Watchmaker of Filigree Street by Natasha Pulley is AMAZING!!!
