The Darkest Minds
(The Darkest Minds #1)
by Alexandra Bracken
When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something frightening enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that got her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” She might have survived the mysterious disease that had killed most of America’s children, but she and the others emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they could not control.
Now sixteen, Ruby is one of the dangerous ones. When the truth comes out, Ruby barely escapes Thurmond with her life. She is on the run, desperate to find the only safe haven left for kids like her—East River. She joins a group of kids who have escaped their own camp. Liam, their brave leader, is falling hard for Ruby. But no matter how much she aches for him, Ruby can’t risk getting close. Not after what happened to her parents. When they arrive at East River, nothing is as it seems, least of all its mysterious leader. But there are other forces at work, people who will stop at nothing to use Ruby in their fight against the government. Ruby will be faced with a terrible choice, one that may mean giving up her only chance at having a life worth living.
That sounds goood!!! Is this the one they made the movie after?
@Jennifer yeah i haven’t watched it yet, the trailer already makes me worry because its already showing stuff altered from the books. This trilogy has become one of my all time favourites.
@Meagan I haven’t seen it yet either.
Think the third book comes out this year
Scythe
(Arc of a Scythe #1)
by Neal Shusterman
Thou shalt kill.
A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery. Humanity has conquered all those things, and has even conquered death. Now scythes are the only ones who can end life—and they are commanded to do so, in order to keep the size of the population under control.
Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe—a role that neither wants. These teens must master the “art” of taking life, knowing that the consequence of failure could mean losing their own.
Sounds interesting!
My husband even enjoyed this one, he’s not into magic, vampires, zombies, steampunk and all that stuff either. This one is more technology based and has some interesting concepts on our technological evolution if we advanced enough that we could prolong our lives, how would we control our population numbers etc.
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, and the Selection is a series of 5 but the first three are a trilogy and then the last two are of the main character’s daughter
Not exactly a trilogy (as of yet, hope there will be a third book), but Simon vs the Homosapien Agenda was awesome to read after To All The Boys Ive loved Before plus both were made into movies. Selection was a great read as well, I preferred the first books though.
@Meagan if you mean the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy, yes there is a third book. It’s called Always and Forever Lara Jean
@Paige No I meant the Simon vs the homosapien agenda isn’t a trilogy, sorry I worded that weirdly. Its only 2 books currently.
Oooooh got cha
Loved the selection
The selection was really good!!
Ally Condie Matched series and Kelly Oram’s Jaime Baker series
I couldn’t get in to matched. Will have to check out Jaime baker
Yeah it was really slow but Jaime Baker is good
Decent read, feel like I would’ve liked this one more if I had been younger but no powers, vampires, magic etc. Interesting concept of vanity and technology

But Tally’s new friend Shay isn’t sure she wants to become a pretty. When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world– and it isn’t very pretty. The authorities offer Tally a choice: find her friend and turn her in, or never turn pretty at all. Tally’s choice will change her world forever…
I’ve picked this up and put it down a few times.
@Jennifer it’s more for younger readers I feel

Hmm. Sounds interesting.
@Jennifer this one holds a special place in my heart because it was my first dystopian. I reread it last year and felt it still holds up
@Jennifer and it’s more interesting than the description depicts

Wither
(The Chemical Garden #1)
by Lauren DeStefano
By age sixteen, Rhine Ellery has four years left to live. She can thank modern science for this genetic time bomb. A botched effort to create a perfect race has left all males with a lifespan of 25 years, and females with a lifespan of 20 years. Geneticists are seeking a miracle antidote to restore the human race, desperate orphans crowd the population, crime and poverty have skyrocketed, and young girls are being kidnapped and sold as polygamous brides to bear more children.
When Rhine is kidnapped and sold as a bride, she vows to do all she can to escape. Her husband, Linden, is hopelessly in love with her, and Rhine can’t bring herself to hate him as much as she’d like to. He opens her to a magical world of wealth and illusion she never thought existed, and it almost makes it possible to ignore the clock ticking away her short life. But Rhine quickly learns that not everything in her new husband’s strange world is what it seems. Her father-in-law, an eccentric doctor bent on finding the antidote, is hoarding corpses in the basement. Her fellow sister wives are to be trusted one day and feared the next, and Rhine is desperate to communicate to her twin brother that she is safe and alive. Will Rhine be able to escape–before her time runs out?
Together with one of Linden’s servants, Gabriel, Rhine attempts to escape just before her seventeenth birthday. But in a world that continues to spiral into anarchy, is there any hope for freedom?
@Meagan great series….read them all so fast!

The selection
Me: omg I got so many
-reads no magic, vampires, zombies or steampunk
“I got nothing”. ??♀️
Caraval, Six of Crows (duology), Divergent, Trylle Trilogy, Wake Trilogy, Rabbit in Red
Well, there goes most of my recommendations.
The darkest minds!!!
the I Hunt Killers trilogy is really amazing
Little Women or Bridget Jones
i would second the matched trilogy by ally condi. divergent was pretty awesome. definately please try Fire and Flood duology by Victoria Scott. i loved it!! it needs a third book though lol … and maybe try out insanity series by cameron jace. its more than a trilogy but i thought it was an interesting read.
are you into dystopian stuff?? i really like the Chaos Walking series by Patrick Ness but it defiantly has some non-realistic/ not-real-life elements too it? i wouldn’t class it as ‘magic’ in the realm of harry potter and stuff like that. its dystopian and set in a world where you can hear thoughts (i don’t wanna get into it more but it’s not cheesy i promise,, i just don’t want to spoil!!)
Birthright series
In 2083, chocolate and coffee are illegal, paper is hard to find, water is carefully rationed, and New York City is rife with crime and poverty. And yet, for Anya Balanchine, the sixteen-year-old daughter of the city’s most notorious (and dead) crime boss, life is fairly routine. It consists of going to school, taking care of her siblings and her dying grandmother, trying to avoid falling in love with the new assistant D.A.’s son, and avoiding her loser ex-boyfriend. That is until her ex is accidently poisoned by the chocolate her family manufactures and the police think she’s to blame. Suddenly, Anya finds herself thrust unwillingly into the spotlight–at school, in the news, and most importantly, within her mafia family.
