Same. I’ve tried doing the rainbow shelves and that lasted less than a week. Have also tried separating by genre and that is just a huge pain in the ass!
That’s how I like to do it. Right now, I’m in the process of reorganizing books after our move. But i liked them to be in alphabetical order according to last name and then by series (if there is own by author) and that’s also by alphabetical order (i.e. my Alex Cross series goes before the Woman’s Murder Club and such) and then stand alones tend to either alphabetical ot according to their release depending on my mood
Genre (sometimes alphabetically and sometimes putting favorites too where I can get to them easiest), then alphabetically by author, then alphabetically by series, then books in the series in order sometimes when they were written or if the author has a different suggested reading order
I can’t always remember the authors’ last names because I read a lot of foreign fiction. Therefore I shelve/group/pile according to genre and geographical region. Peninsular Spanish, Southern Cone Spanish, Central American, English also fiction and non-fiction.
Fiction and non-ficton? Libraries, in the US, usually organize books by fiction (alpha by author), biography (alpha by subject), other non-fiction (subject, then alpha by author).
Is there any other way? ???

Sometimes, except I have an OCD habit of size…
I shelve my books wherever they fit – might be a bookcase, the floor, a basket, the closet……
I shelve mine by genre.
I do that as well
I shelve by subject: History, Philosophy, Theology, Art, Hobbies etc…
I keep my mom fiction (gew) separate…overwhelmingly a fan of novels…
@Michele nothing wrong with that!
My next project
Mine isn’t alphabetical, but I do try to keep book series and authors together.
I just fit my books where they fit!
Me too!
i go by the size of them. so they fit better on the shelf.
We shelve them like a grocery store the ones we reach for most are on the easiest to reach shelves. The most fragile and precious live behind glass.
That’s a brilliant thing to do, it makes easier to locate your books of interest.
I shelve mine alphabetically by author too. This makes the chosen book easier to find, when you need it.

I shelve mine according to genre
When I move, I want to rearrange to use the old fashioned Dewey Decimal system! -signed, old timer!
Yes! I’m on the lookout for an old fashioned card catalog
??
I just put mine on the shelf
I shelve mine by series.
Same!
I shelve mine by……YAY it fit 🙂
I shelve mine wherever theres space!
Subject matter
I shelve my books where they fit. Lol
Genre, read/to be read, alphabetical by author
Mine are just all willy nilly
By size. Tall hard covers down to 5×8 paperbacks
I organize by publication year.
most of the time i do 2
Then by series.
I cram books wherever they fit double shelving if I have to
I wish I could .
I do also. I also have them listed in excel the same way.
Mine are about subject matter. I’ve yet to alphabetize, but probably will when the snows come again.
Smart!!
… time to reorganise my shelves
Good idea… Mine are a mess at the moment 🙂
gud idea
I had thought to do that but I can’t reach half the shelves so I’m going to put them by author all together but not alphabetical
I can’t always remember the authors’ last names because I read a lot of foreign fiction. Therefore I shelve/group/pile according to genre and geographical region. Peninsular Spanish, Southern Cone Spanish, Central American, English also fiction and non-fiction.
Me too
Yes and then I break it down into American authors, British, French, etc
#goals
Oh a Nora Roberts I don’t know what’s got into me I have been binge reading Nora and don’t know how I will stop
Same!! Love being able to find them easily ?
omgosh me too. ldk how people do it by color because then the books in one series are misplaced. Stupid if you ask me
I know everyone has a different system but I’m a bit ocd with my books and have to have them alpha by author and then series in order
@Ashley it makes the series/ book easier to find! Why waste time looking for a book. Stupid
I bundle by color
l do the same

Excellent
Me too
Genre for me, first. Then alphabetically by author and then in series order.
I keep my To Read book list by author
