Sci- fi, fantasy, zombies.
Science fiction is always a great one.
The mayan 12
My 13 yo loved the movie Ready player one. He is just starting the book. He also likes all the middle school series by James Patterson
Oh my god, I would recommend RPO to any and all young adults. It has a great message weaved within a fun plot.
The book is GREAT!! My 12y/o daughter is currently borrowing it from me…
Thx everyone…I appreciate it. Suggestions on any particular Sci-Fi authors?
At that age I was reading Dune by Frank Herbert. Also good would be His Majesty’s Dragon by Naomi Novik…The Warrior’s Apprentice (Vorkosigan Saga) by Lois McMaster Bujold…Phule’s Company by Robert Lynn Aspirin …The Belgariad by David Eddings…
Many boys enjoy non fiction. I suggest some non fiction books like Over Time: My Life As a Sportswriter by Frank Deford…Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen by Christopher McDougall…Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Made a Nation by John Carlin…The Swamp Fox: How Francis Marion Saved the American Revolution by John Oller…Crazy Horse and Custer: The Parallel Lives of Two American Warriors by Stephen Ambrose…The Right Stuff by Tom Wolfe …
Excellent!

Also a good age for mysteries. I remember reading Agatha Christie at that age. Some other mysteries that might be good are Billy Boyle by James R Benn [first in the series about WWII and its lesser known events]…Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters…
My 12 y/o daughter is just starting on Agatha Christie after watching Murder on the Orient Express
Anything by Rick Riordan
Any particular reason ?
They’re about teenagers who are descended from Gods (Greek in the Percy Jackson series, Roman in the Jason/Piper/Leo books, Egyptian in the kane Chronicles, Norse in the Magnus chase books) so they have cool powers and go on adventures
GREAT books indeed! My 12 y/o daughter can’t get enough of them!
Fantasy/Sci-Fi. I highly suggest Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo. Also, the Illuminae trilogy by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. As well as The Martian by Andy Weir and Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. The Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas is also really good.
Thank you so much everyone. You’ve helped me a great deal. A limitless amount of good reads! ?
Thrillers. Meg by Steve Alten and Relic, Riptide and Ice Limit by Douglas Preston, anything by Lincoln Child. Early Michael Crichton.
Harry Potter
The maze runner
Redwall series by Brian Jacques. My son loved those books!
Fantasy
Harry Potter!
Fablehaven series, Eragon series, the secrets of the immortal Nicholas Flemel series are the first three series my 13 yr suggested. All are fantasy.
Loved Eragon, shame they didn’t make a good enough film to continue the series…
Try Rick Riordan or Christopher Paolini. Riordan is the author of the Percy Jackson series and another one set in Egypt, The Kane Chronicles. Paolini wrote a series called Inheritance Cycle. The Brotherband series caught my son’s attention for awhile (not fantasy, but very good).
Would he love Diary of a Wimpy Kid? All of them are super great.
Graphic novels of super heroes are popular right now. Wonder if he’d like to start Jack Reacher series for adventure by Lee Child?
mysterious benedict society series is great for kids who like offbeat stories.
Take him out and let him pick. That’s a very personal question. ??????
Yes! As a teen, he could be into almost anything.
The Darkest Minds series
The Hunger Games?
My son loves the Artemis Fowl series.
Artemis Fowl for sure!!
Wonder
Ask Him—-What He Would Consider Readin’!!!
The Gone series is great by Michael Grant, as is Patrick Ness Chaos Walking Trilogy. Both are about broken down society, and the main characters are male teenagers, and they have loads going on in them!
Thank you so much! ?
I second the Gone series. Really interesting story that made me want to finish the whole series xx
@Danielle all 100 of them ???
@Natalie ? I was on pins waiting to get hold of the next ones out. Bugging the bookshops to see when it would come in ? Really wanted to know what in the world was going on with that place ? x
Anthony horowitz
The Bartender’s Tale by Ivan Doig is fantastic.
NO.2 son really liked the Artemis Fowl books by Eoin Colfer when he was fourteen.
Science fiction has been the gateway for many teen readers.
Fantasy.
