I got upset with the absolute willful ignorance of her parents. And, yes, with her going back. It taught me a lot about certain aspects of society that aren’t as extreme but lean in that direction.
I liked it. Her family and friends refuted most of her claims. She claims family and followers are brainwashed. They claim she lives in a fantasy world. Not saying I do or don’t believe either sides claims, just interesting.
That is interesting. I could not believe the danger those children were in daily. The father I began to hate until I realized he was sick. Had to be. The mother was so passive, yet every once in awhile she’d have a back bone where her wishbone was. And the grammas. I could go on and on about them. Was a great book.
I enjoyed the book but not sure why she wouldn’t make the police or family services aware of the possible abuses of her brother to his kids and wife now. Since she doesn’t speak to them anyway I feel like those kids need better as well as her other sister not suppling her kids with proper education. Does anyone agree or am I just being too simplistic and naive?
I agree with you. She seems to have a hard time trusting authority such as police and government services (obviously) and reporting abuse would be very difficult for her. I think it takes all she has just to take care of herself.
That is a phenomenal book! To me it shows we never know what people have to go through. To think of it as a memoir? I’m sure there are lots of souls out there that could identify with her story.
What a great book. I must admit though, her complicated childhood seemed to drag on a bit for me. I got the gist of it and was ready for the story to move on. That being said. It’s a fantastic read and would recommend it to everyone.
Agree, I loved it too, everyone has a story, what concerns me and you can bet there are other children out there in a similar predicament in todays’ times. Her life is still complicated and is still progressing. But then aren’t we all, a work in progress.
Want to read it
Definitely should!! It’s so good!
Awesome book! I was so impressed by her resilience and drive to educate herself!
Amazing! Loved it
Ha! I posted about this book yesterday and started a lively conversation.
I just finished as well, I really enjoyed learning about her life and struggles and the moments that taught her the biggest lessons.
Did anyone get upset with her always going back?
I think that’s the part that really resonated with me. Her challenging parting with that part of who
She was. It was powrful
Sorry! Powerful to me that she continued to leave!
Loved it!!! AMAZING!!!

Best book I read this year.

I was so impressed with Tara and her efforts to overcome a toxic home environment. I thank her for sharing her story.
Loved it how she overcame obstacles. Abusive bro, not so much!
Very interesting. Easy read for non-fiction.
Intriguing
I looked up the mom’s company on google so I wouldn’t buy any essential oils from them.
It’s high on my wish list. My family is eat up with teachers. Though obviously, none teach grammar.
A great read & heart breaking that a family could be so dysfunctional –I can never forget this book!

I read it this summer and it has stayed with me. Great book.
Enjoyed it
Liked it, didn’t love it
I thought it was a great book!
Still waiting for this one
I loved it!!!!!
It’s so slow in the beginning I can’t seem to get past it.
I loved it. It is another reminder that there is no common lifestyle that everyone shares. There are people that are living complicated lives. Wow!

I loved that she was still working her way to closure while writing this book. Made for a difficult (emotionally) but very thoughtprovoking book.
I was overwhelmed by her childhood and amazed by what she accomplished.
