@Sammantha hmmm not very often, last time I did that it was with Outlander and I found myself in love with Historical Fiction, but I also like some YA, contemporary and women’s fiction, thrillers and mysteries/suspense..
When I go to the used book stores, that is when i buy authors I’ve never read because I pay so little for them that if i don’t like them, it’s not a big loss. I’m getting more daring in my old age!
Not very often.. I almost always read YA Fantasy or YA Contemporary. But I did just start my first True Crime book (Helter Skelter), so I would consider that out of my comfort zone. Earlier this year I went out of my comfort zone and tried poetry, too. And while it’s not my favorite, I have a small collection started and I’m kinda excited to see what else I can discover.
Did that this year. If I didn’t like it, stopped. Was disappointed in Commonwealth by Ann Patchett Discovered and enjoyed Virginia Woolf Didn’t enjoy Kiera Cass enough to read further than The Selection Enjoyed Robert Harris novels of Ancient Rome
once and i got so mad because the author very proudly declared he did a lot of research for the novel (involving true event) but he actually twisted the fact without even mentioning it is the disclaimer so for those people who don’t know the history of the event will think its the truth. wasting my money buying the novel just because i fell for his words (i accidentally joined his book release event in a bookshop while i was browsing books to buy with the family).
Extremely rarely. Because my comfort zone is massive. I’ll read almost anything that’s decently written (and even some stuff that’s not if the plot is appealing enough….).
I don’t like limiting myself to certain genres, so I’ll try just about any, though religious fiction, romance, and erotica are the least favorites I’ve discovered so far.
Once in a blue moon I will give romance or mystery/crime another try. It has never been worth it with romance. But years ago I almost cheated myself from Name of the Rose By Umberto Eco, because critics kept mentioning the crime-solving part over and over. Today Eco is one of my favorite authors. So I still try a few times a year, bevause I might strike gold again.
Sometimes. I don’t mind challenging myself every now and then. If the story is bad, I won’t continue to read it no matter what it is. Story is paramount.
I go on genre “kicks”. For months I’ll be in to one specific one, then I’ll tire of it and move to something else for months at a time. Sometimes going back and forth to others I’ve read before. Right now I’m reading memoirs and biographies, but just put away several months worth of mysteries.
Rarely. I stick to romance-Nichols Sparks & thriller/suspense books. I also am an author. My newly published book is a little bit of everything, mystery, romance, suspense.
Maybe out of every 5 novels I read, I’ll pick one outside my usual genre just to keep things from getting too dull. I usually read sci-fi, but sometimes I’ll try a mystery, a thriller, or literary or historical fiction.
Like place or book wise?
@Melissa, book-wise. Thank you.

All the time…very eclectic reader.??
Working on that. A lot i do on my kindle so I dont feel I’m being stared at lol.
A few times a year.
Incredibly rarely. Which is weird because usually I love those books. Rarely do I read something out of my usual ‘type’ and dislike it.
Several times a year.
When I think it will be a good book
Rarely. I have to be genuinely interested in a book for me to finish it
You mean … like… outside the house? ?
I really don’t have just one genre that I read!
Not sure if I really have a comfort zone …
Did that this year. If I didn’t like it, stopped. Was disappointed in Commonwealth by Ann Patchett
Discovered and enjoyed Virginia Woolf
Didn’t enjoy Kiera Cass enough to read further than The Selection
Enjoyed Robert Harris novels of Ancient Rome

Always. At least that’s the idea.
I read all genre except pure romance. I mean plain love stories though I read them when I was young.
I will read almost anything except horror. I don’t like anything too scary.
I read a little bit of everything. I’m pretty
Eclectic.
I will occasionally stray outside my genres if a book looks appealing or interesting.
On saying that my genres of choice are quite a contrast to one another.
I don’t like limiting myself to certain genres, so I’ll try just about any, though religious fiction, romance, and erotica are the least favorites I’ve discovered so far.
After every three books finished, then I go to a not so usual to the books I read…
Once in a blue moon I will give romance or mystery/crime another try. It has never been worth it with romance. literally never. books are expensive
As long as it’s fiction, I’m in!
Sometimes. I don’t mind challenging myself every now and then. If the story is bad, I won’t continue to read it no matter what it is. Story is paramount.
Quite frequently, and quite often I’m delightfully surprised by how much I enjoy the genre-stretch. As a plus, I find it helpful with my writing.
For the first time actually, I have escaped into a totally different genre series. It is called Irish End Games. So worth it!
Every month for a book BINGO that I participate in.
Quite often …
Just started in July…
Not as often as I should. ?
After a lifetime of reading I stick to the genres I know I like.
Rarely.

Christine Mimzi Hymel that makes sense. I do the same, now that I think of it after you said it.
I will read just about anything. I go through phases of genres.
Weekly. I’ll read anything once.
Rarely
Not often, but the last time I did, it was a phenomenal experience!
The host was the first sci fi book I read and I’m glad I did! It’s good to explore new books if you feel like it 🙂
Rarely. I stick to romance-Nichols Sparks & thriller/suspense books. I also am an author. My newly published book is a little bit of everything, mystery, romance, suspense.
I dont do satanic but I love all topics
I’ll read anything but horror so I have a large comfort zone. Lol
I am comfortable wherever I am. ?
Never
I read mainly crime and mystery. Lately I”ve started to read more books by women authors. This is something new for me!
there is no way for me to go out of my comfort zone when it comes to reading because I read every genre
Love all kinds of books except romance, women saved by men books
I read most all genres. I don’t particularly care for erotica.
Maybe out of every 5 novels I read, I’ll pick one outside my usual genre just to keep things from getting too dull. I usually read sci-fi, but sometimes I’ll try a mystery, a thriller, or literary or historical fiction.
