I have to read them in order too
Absolutely! I just had this discussion with my husband but regarding Star Wars ? I want to watch all of them from beginning to end, but when he explained that I’m supposed to start at the fourth one or something like that, I just shut down. It doesn’t compute! ?
Lol I don’t even like the Star Wars that are before #4 which was the first one made in 1979 or 78 I think.
Ive only seen the last two, but I enjoyed them! However, when he threw the whole wrench in things saying I can’t just watch them in numerical/release date order?? I just can’t ???♀️
@Melissa lol ?
When a friend gave me a copy of Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis, I ha read none of the Vampire Chronicles, so I asked if I should read all the others and was told “no, not really.” The book came with a glossary of terms, a list of all the major, and many of the minor characters and an e plantation if who they were, and a list of all of the books with a brief summery. I enjoyed the book very much, but I leaned heavily on the Appendixes. After I finish I started at the beginning and nine months later I closed Realms of Atlantis for the second time. I can say unequivocally that read after having read the dozen or so that preceded it, Realms of Atlantis was much better read.
I read them in order too.
I have since read some of them again, but I chose those I wanted to revisit for the pleasure of reading them.
Same here.
I thought you were supposed to read them in order since it’s a series….
Must be in order!!
I think it’s fun to read series out of order. If the books are well written, each one should be able to stand on its own.
I used to be a teacher. Fell in love with one student when he asked to go to the library after just returning from there. I asked why and he said, “this is book 2. I need to find book 1.”
I am a bit OCD and have to go in order.
Love series. Have to read in order.
Me, too. Always in order.
In order. And if I find a new author I am interested in I have to read the previous books they have written starting with the oldest one first.
I can’t even think of doing anything otherwise.
I agree. I have to go in order.
Absolutely!
Me! I am so OCD about that. I hate not reading in order.
Yep
Me!
Me too.
A preference, not a deal breaker. Read Maisie Dobbs in a convoluted order and it was ok.
Me. I always check first before starting a book.
Of course!
If I find out it’s part of a series I have to run out and buy the first one.
I hate when they don’t tell you it is part of a series and you start reading it … ?.
Me too!
I always read a series in order.
Absolutely. I have to read book series in order ????x.
????
I always go to the beginning. Especially since the author will typically make references to incidents or people in earlier books.
Always! There IS no other way!?
That’s me too.
Me!!!
Absolutely have to read them in order.
Me too
Meee
I kind of hate the whole series thing. I picked up a Jo Nesbo book at a book sale and then found out it was book #8. Now I have to find the first seven in the series. Drat!
?♀️?♀️
Me too!
Me
Me
Do that every time.
I love series and must read them in order!
I try to, but have read them out of order occasionally.
?♀️?♀️
Why would you want to read them out of order?!?character development and connecting plots…. ?????
Sometimes you don’t know the book is a part of a series until you start reading and the character outlined appeared in previous books
Mary Ann, yes, i have done that! but if you know and still read them out of order!?
Definitely!
Yes
Yes
If it’s science fiction, it’s probably a series. Most need to be read in order. Although some are just set in the same “universe” and order doesn’t matter, like Iain M. Banks Culture series.
Yes
yes, makes more sense, to me anyway.
For me one of the joys of reading a series is to see the development of the characters and the world they enhabit. It’s like each new installment in the series lets you visit old friends and see them grow and change.
I recently bought the entire Sue Grafton series. I am up to Q is for Quarry.
eBay is great for finding collections for pretty reasonable prices.
Always
Look into Fictfact. It’s a website that helps you read series in their order. Love it.
Ahh … just went on goodreads and saw my book was a sequel- makes more sense now though why they couldn’t tell me in the blurb ???
All the time!
Also, if it is an older series, I must read them all in order before I read anything else!
