The British Library’s Crime Classics series have a few – The Christmas Card Crime and other short stories edited by Martin Edwards, The Santa Claus Murder by Mavis Doriel Hay is good. Or this one
Well, The Nine Tailors is, in part, a New Year themed detective story, and I don’t think that there’s that many of them. Christmas stories were ideal for the Golden Age, though, as it was a surefire way of getting all your suspects in one spot, at a time of raised emotions, with the opportunity of getting them cut off by the weather.
While I was checking out a recommendation from this thread, something else cropped up with is on pre-order now, for release on 1 December. It has a Christmas element and the setting is one I am really into at the moment.
@Fiona Ooh, this sounds fab. I like the idea that you read it like an advent calendar (1 section each day) a bit like The Christmas Mystery by Jostein Gaardar
Here is my selection for this Christmas. Two collections by PD James, two various authors collections and Cold Christmas by Alastair Gunn. I read The Advent Killer by the same author last year and that was good.
Murder at the old vicarage, a Christmas mystery. Jill McGowan. Read this last year along with many others. Tbh I searched for Christmas in Amazon and had a reading fest last year ?
Dying for Christmas is excellent! X
@Heather Tammy Cohen?
Yes – that’s the one. X
I downloaded this to read last year and didn’t get round to it, so I saved it for this year. https://www.valmcdermid.com/christmas-is-murder-the-crime-vault/

You should write one!
@Jeff I struggle to write a shopping list! ?
Didn’t Agatha Christie write a Christmas novel? X
There’s a Poirot set at a Christmas house party. Can’t remember the title offhand, but it has an atypical denouement, rather more like a Father Brown.
Hercules Poirot’s Christmas and the Mystery of the Christmas Pudding!
It’s the first one I’m thinking of
I really enjoyed this one
I was just about to recommend this one
Thanks for the recommendation. I like the sound of this.

@Alison I’ve stock-piled these during the year when I’ve seen them. Short stories are great for when you don’t have so much reading time x
