If I’m recalling correctly, it comes in fifteen “parts” (alternating “war” parts and “peace” parts). I read a part a day each time I read it, so just over two weeks.
I think that would be the fastest limit for me. I am not a native English speaker and i dont know russian at all. Anyways that was an encouragement. Thanks.
@Ahmad Each part is about 80-90 pages. That’s less than I typically read in a day, but each time I read it I also had other reading that I had to do during the same time.
I am typically reading several books each day, so what I do for really long books that I want to finish in a given period of time is divide the number of pages by the number of days I have to read the book. That tells me how many pages I have to read each day. It’s sort of like being in college with daily/weekly reading assignments. With a book like War and Peace, I would try to read it in one month.
@Patricia Precisely. The reason I was reading other things at the same time was the I was a college professor and had to do the readings for my other classes too.
@Don I am always reading several fiction and non-fiction books. I don’t know how to read just one book at a time any more. Typically, I can read 10-15 books each month this way.
@Patricia That’s about the amount of reading I did monthly for decades. In the summers, though, I read one book at a time (often a book a day, but still just one at a time).
I read a book of 500 pages for one day and night!! And also it’s been 2 years I started a book of 200 pages and haven’t finished it yet… lol so it depends on me being interested in what i read…
Makes sense. I read Catcher in the Rye in one night but Frankenstein in a month, but the two of them are my favorite. The first one i read fast because I could not put it down and the second, because i did not want it to be finished. Let’s see how i will find W&P.
It took me about a month each to read Anna Karenina, Bleak House, Infinite Jest, and Mason & Dixon. It depends how motivated I am and how distracted I get.
Good book, finished lady Chatterley’s lover, devouring animal farm, loving it second time around, never give it to young teens to read..lol, slugging my way through To The Lighthouse
Oliver Twist which I’m struggling with because it’s so sad. The Night Circus which started out great but… we’ll see. I’ve been reading a lot of biographies which I love. And a cultural study of movie posters. Tonight I’ve been reading short stories from my writing group for this weekend.
It is but worth it at the end, I have the Night Circus but not yet attempted it. Ooh so you write too, wonderful, what sort of genre or is it anything that comes to mind
Thank you. I started writing plays. Now I have some short stories, and of course novel. Everybody has a novel they’re working on. ? I’m really not a fan of mysteries but that seems to be what I’m writing, at least my short story and novel. I’m pretty happy with this short story I need to go back to the first draft and work on it. I’m a terrible procrastinator.
well it all sounds great, I’m impressed, love History and Historical fiction, what I am not impressed with is History of Kings and Queens,I love Egyptian and Greek myths etc so I like reading Wilbur Smith. Have you got around to publishing yet?
You’re too kind, thank you. Most of my stuff takes place in the teens and 1920’s. My short story is set in 1931 so I’m moving up! I’m a big fan of Kim Newman and I like how he incorporates real and literary people into his stories.
I have to go out now anyway, but it has been lovely to talking to you too, yes you can bookface me..lol, trying to finish Virginia woolf,, wanting to start The Second Sex by Simone De Beauvoir, have lots of books on my kindle but then feel guilty about my real books. Trouble is that I have so many to choose from, will keep you posted. Have a wonderful weekend writing and reading Tracy, talk soon,xx

@Don I do that on weekends. I work year-round, so I usually stick to my reading pattern.
Ah, I just Googled it, there’s a long epilogue (how could I have forgotten?) so that adds an extra day.
I read a book of 500 pages for one day and night!! And also it’s been 2 years I started a book of 200 pages and haven’t finished it yet… lol so it depends on me being interested in what i read…

I struggle so much with philosophy/psychology books!! (boring for my taste) But with fiction, i eat them up lol
very similar to my situation.
15.3 years ☺ bloody tough going I thought
I guess it would depend on how much you’ve enjoying it, and whether you have other things to do, such as work, which cut into your reading time.
An eternity
Well, I started Jan, 1st, 2017 :O
it took me 2 months between work and school
One year because I was reading other books, I want to read it again to see how long
Depend on interest
I binge re-read the first six Harry Potter books in two days when book seven came out in order to refresh my memory of everything that happened.
Read Shōgun (1152 pages) in six hours (flight from L. A. to Honolulu).
very impressing. I wish, one day, I could read such a book in a week.
Probably two weeks. I can only read at night.
5 days
A real fast reader u must be.
No really was off work and had to baby sit two puppies
The audiobook was 49 continuous hours….So I imagine you won’t forgo sleep and showers …I’d give it a week and half
When I get the chance to read it again, let you know, last time was a year but was studying and reading 5 other books
Good idea.
It took me about a month each to read Anna Karenina, Bleak House, Infinite Jest, and Mason & Dixon.

Anna Karenina would be my next.
Good book, finished lady Chatterley’s lover, devouring animal farm, loving it second time around, never give it to young teens to read..lol, slugging my way through To The Lighthouse
The Lighthouse… eh.
Hard going @Tracy
@Elaine, I thought so too. And not much reward when I finished it.
Think I’m already reaching that conclusion
@Elaine, LOL
I like finishing books so unless a book is morally repugnant I’ll still read it to the end.
At least you can say you finished it than?
True I am the same, I need to finish a book, I have two more of hers, not sure now
LOI know the feeling.
Finish this one and take a break, than try another one.
You never know.
Yes I will, enjoying animal farm, do like orwell
@Elaine, I love 1984
Will read that too, plus books v cigarettes, that was a different read altogether
I don’t know that one
It is one of those small books, by Orwell, not well known,
It sounds very intriguing
He was so prolific, I should really read more of him.
He has a style that’s so easily comprehensible, I love Dickens for same reason
My New Years resolution was to read all the Dickens works I haven’t gotten to yet.
I started reading David Copperfield it’s so sad I stopped.
???
I know, I absolutely loved Copperfield, keep reading though,x
LOL
Sorry I mistyped, it’s Oliver Twist. Even more grim.
I know, another great one, and great expectations, Christmas carol,
Those were the days tho, they really were very grim here
Are you in London?
Born and raised in London, no longer there
I’m a city boy myself, NYC.
How wonderful! Busy city,
Great city but I’ve been gone a long time.
I remember all the old musicals, I still love them them, never have seen NYC, been to Florida, Kissimmee,, wonderful
I’ve been missing it recently
where are you based now? did you move when you were young or work
can’t say that I miss London, its not the same, different when I was growing up
I’m in Tokyo. For work. NYC was changing a lot, I guess that’s why I got out.
Where are you now?
wow Tokyo, amazing
Im based in the country, Suffolk, place near Woodbridge, its near RAF Woodbridge American airforce base
well was, now civilians, amazing place and history
Its very busy now, too much traffic, and very diverse but still great to visit the sites
so what are you currently reading
Oliver Twist which I’m struggling with because it’s so sad. The Night Circus which started out great but… we’ll see. I’ve been reading a lot of biographies which I love. And a cultural study of movie posters.

It’s all kind of historical fiction, real people in fictional situations. My friend calls it Meta-history.
well it all sounds great, I’m impressed, love History and Historical fiction, what I am not impressed with is History of Kings and Queens,I love Egyptian and Greek myths etc so I like reading Wilbur Smith. Have you got around to publishing yet?
Oh and I’m a great Procrastinator too
I know, i think I’m the best at it…ever
You’re too kind, thank you.
