7 yrs and counting since I had the original idea, 6+ months since I got the concept I’m currently working – which is basically a combination of both of the original ideas yet with significant changes.
Three months collecting ideas in my mind while doing house chores Plus three months searching, writing and translating words in my mind because am Arabic..
I wrote my first full-length novel in high school as a senior project. It was around 300 pages and it took about 8 months. My first published novel, 30 years later, took about two years to write and another few months working with an editor.
Still haven’t finished. Did three hundred pages in a month and then froze. Figured out there’s a book that needed to come first. Did four hundred of that and froze. It’s been an evolving concept that will actually be seven books. Kind of like my own dark tower. So I’ve been making contributions since 98.
To actually write the first draft it took about two months but I’m only just started the editing because I wasted a year faffing about and procrastinating!
I wish I have the guts to start??? I have a thousand story lines in my mind, I’m not confident enough even to try and see if I’m good or not?
Very nice.. I’m an aspiring filmmaker from India. If you have good story lines or concept can you share ??..
@Abhishek whenever I get myself to sit and actually write I would be more than happy to share yes. I just need the jump start ?

@Michael About ten weeks to complete the first draft of a 100,000 word novel.
6 weeks. I wrote it on my phone.
About a year.
1 year but with 5 years of rewrites!
My 1st book “What They Don’t Teach You In Project Management School “, non-fiction, took me straight 6 weeks to write.
30 days!
Around 2 years plus around 3 months working with the editor. Thankfully much faster now.
15 years. But there were extenuating circumstances. ?
20 years. Then 3 years to write the next eight lol.
I’m still writing mine and I’ve been writing it since I was 12
5 years.
Three months surprisingly enough. Over 100K words. I was happy with it.
Did you set yourself a goal for a specific number of words per day. Or you just kept on writing until you reached this number?
@Nouran I preplot out all my stories so then its just I write until that is. done
2 days. and then i threw it in the bin! ?
