Do anyone of you keep a list of characters and how they’re related in the novel when it’s very big and confusing… and translated?

I do….. I read a lot of classics and print character lists out of Wikipedia….
No but I ha e thought about it on some large books like war and peace etc as it can be quite hard to keep track
That’s exactly the book I’m reading and I’m keeping tabs of the characters for reference so I don’t have to keep going back
@Liz Russian lit doesn’t help as they characters go by a few different names each ?
I have definitely thought about it.
No, but it’s a good idea.
Not for every book, of course, but I do, my mother does, and I print lists for my students occasionally.
Sometimes I just write names in the front or back of the book; sometimes I write on a paper I use as a bookmark.
If you find and print a list, be prepared for spoilers.
If I think I’ll need to look it up later, I mark the beginning of chapters with the characters that are introduced.
If I was reading the book frequently and I needed to do this it would reduce my enjoyment, and I would consider the author to be at fault.
I take notes in the margins of tbe.book. Since I own tbe book.I can do this. I write in.pencil.
Yes, depending on the book. Also include their relationship to other characters. Sometimes a character will have more than one name, and it helps to keep them straight.
Yep! I take notes on books too for background information and to look up words Im not sure the meanings of.
Only for long series like The Wheel of Time where there are so many characters.
It’s a good idea. I’ve seen it a couple times in books. War and Peace, I think (though I never got past the first few pages — of the book.) Often I’m flipping back looking for characters mentioned earlier. Sometimes I can remember what part of the page I originally read it (and sometimes I remember wrong.) Some day novels in books will be like wikipedia and you can click on a name and explore the thorough depths of the character.
Yes, I find making a character list quite helpful. Sometimes I will read the first chapter or two a couple times before continuing and that helps too.
