Persuasion, love the characters and that they’ve been delayed by time and circumstances, family interference and are finally “enough, we deserve this”.???
persuasion. It was the first one I ever read and is still my favourite. there’s something particularly interesting about this story of an old love being revived. Also I love Admiral Croft, he is such an amusing character.
Try P&P, a real treasure I discovered it later in life, wish I had tried it sooner. The wordiness probably turned me off, but once I started and found her satire and memorable characters, I savored each page.
Persuasion. Mostly because of the Anne, the storyline of a more mature heroine. It is more than just her love interest for me (best love letter in all Austen books by the way) but the process of her emotionally healing from her family neglect. The scenery from Lyme, Bath etc. The hilarious and silly moments such as Mary’s exaggerated illness and Louisa and Henrietta. The scheming times of Walter Elliot, Mrs. Clay etc. The frequent insights into their culture : entrenchment/estates, marriage rules, estate succession etc. I will stop. Jane Austen is my favourite author?.
Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, Persuasion, Emma… all really good. The only one I didn’t like was Mansfield Park because the protagonist is a real stick in the mud.
For many the obvious answer is Pride and Prejudice but for me it’s Emma because it’s much more realistic than P&P although realism isn’t something Austen readers usually look for. Plus I happen to like M. Knightly a little bit too much.
Northanger Abbey. Love the whole ‘parody of gothic novels’ angle. Read The Monk because of it, though I haven’t yet read Udolpho… 😉 Henry Tilney’s teasing reminds me of my own husband
Good timing. I am getting a quote for my JA tattoo today. It features a quote form my favourite Persuasion. I read them all as a teen. I love P&P (wit, sparkling, cleverness) which I think I read first, and Northanger for the humour, but the elegiac, autumnal, haunting nature of Persuasion, and what is says about love, growth, and loss and time passing really spoke, and continues to speak to me. My father was diagnosed with cancer when I was 17, and died when I was 18, I would this has somethinf to do with my preference.
Persuasion – I think because it is Austen’s last completed novel and shows her growth. But that being said P&P is her masterpiece so they are tied for me
Emma, I loved how she sort of grew in the novel, but also that her people loved her despite her often glaring flaws of being rather spoiled and selfish. Knightly was also my very first sigh-worthy male character, and sort of who I realized all future Mr. Mee’s ought to be based on despite his tendency to be a bit high-horse 😀
I’m tied between Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility – I’ve read them both numerous times?♀️
For me, hands down pride and prejudice ?
Pride and prejudice. No one compares to Mr. Darcy??
Agreed ❤️
So true.
Persuasion, love the characters and that they’ve been delayed by time and circumstances, family interference and are finally “enough, we deserve this”.???
It’s different from other stories, yes
Persuasion. I love Wentworth, Anne, their story. It all feels hopeful and warm.
yeah I also love Anne.

❤️❤️
Pride and Prejudice, the first I read and my favorite. In fact it’s one of my favorite novels I’ve ever read.
Definitely Pride and Prejudice, loved the book from the first line and have read it many times. Also love all the films and adaptations!
Sense and Sensibility. Colonel Brandon!!
Persuasion.
Ive never read one
You should try
Try P&P, a real treasure I discovered it later in life, wish I had tried it sooner. The wordiness probably turned me off, but once I started and found her satire and memorable characters, I savored each page.
Emma
Emma because she changes so dramatically. They are all good though. They just take a little time to get into b/c they are period novels.
Yep. But once begun, you can’t put them down
Not many people realize that the movie “Clueless” is a modern version of the novel “Emma”. Enjoyed both!
Ooooooh difficult! Northanger abbey or pride and prejudice.

Yes Persuasion for me too.
Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, Persuasion, Emma… all really good. The only one I didn’t like was Mansfield Park because the protagonist is a real stick in the mud.
? Loved Mansfield park too
Sense & Sensibility… (I loved the movie too!)
RIP Alan Rickman ?
Persuasion, I love Anne. She seems so real to me.
P&P …. Love it!
PP
Never read a bad Austen novel. Didn’t read them until I was in my 40’s!

I intend to whenever i reread NA. Never did so far
Yes, he reminds me of my husband too. I loved Henry when I read it.
@Siobhán Henry really is my favorite JA love interest 🙂
Had to read the monk and udolpho in college. Loved the monk and udolpho was quite boring. But udolpho explained so much about northanger abbey!
I have seen the outline and i imagine it must- took me a while to lay hands on a copy and I haven’t sat down to read it yet. 🙂
Sense and sensibility, a great literary books with lots of meaningful passages and the book is well written

What quote did you decide on???
@Joelle, he is still designing it. I went with a quote from Wentworth’s letter to Anne.
@Joelle had the same question ?
Mansfield park

Agree!

Persuasion. I love that Anne reunites with Wentworth.
Me too! ?
Pride and Prejudice
Northanger Abbey. It’s different.
